This resource aims to develop the knowledge and key terminology required for students to understand and write about their world. It includes step-by-step descriptions that are supported by diagrams. Questions and activities help students to build and consolidate their learning. A PowerPoint answer key allows you to work through the examples with the students. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What’s included: • A word document worksheet that includes step-by-step descriptions of the formation of the landform. These are supported by photographs and diagrams. •The word document is 10 pages. The word document is provided in colour and grayscale. •This worksheet is also provided as a PDF. •A PowerPoint version of diagrams and answers •The PowerPoint is 28 slides ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How I use this resource : * In class activity- I use this resource to efficiently and accurately teach the subject knowledge. I then get creative to consolidate the learning. I’ve found that the resources help to free up time for application and higher order thinking skills. * Pre-class flipped learning- The majority of students should be able to access the learning in the resource without teacher support. Why not set this as pre-learning so that students can start a lesson from a position of confidence? * Post class homework and consolidation- Likewise, the resources could be used to consolidate on in-class teacher instruction. * To support EAL students- the resources are supported by structured sentences and key vocabulary. * To support students who benefit from short, structured activities. * The resource is aimed at students aged 14-16 although it could be suitable for younger/older. * The resources focus on comprehension of key knowledge and processes. They include a mixture of activities including gap fills, definitions, diagrams and questions. Each worksheet is supported with a PowerPoint that can be displayed in class and includes possible answers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Product Editing Information: Can Edit: •You can edit all written passages. If you feel that the instruction or language is too simplistic or too complex then edit it to suit your learners. • I have deliberately focused on key knowledge and processes. This means that you can add around this. You can control the learning objectives, you can add video clips, your own activities etc. Use the resource as a framework. • I have found the resources easy to upload and convert to Google Slides and Google Docs Can’t Edit: •You will not be able to edit the diagrams, pictures, or visuals included in this resource. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Other Coastal Geography Resources: Ocean Waves- Constructive and Destructive Coastal Processes: Erosion and Transportation Coastal Landforms of Erosion Coastal Erosion and Management (Holderness, UK) Mangroves Coral Reefs COASTS BUNDLE LIGHT COASTS BUNDLE WITH MANGROVES AND CORAL REEFS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How to get TPT credit to use on future purchases: • Each time you give feedback, TPT gives you feedback credits that you use to lower the cost of your future purchases. The landscape is being continuously worn away by two processes- weathering and erosion. Weathering is the breaking up of the rocks on the earth's surface. Erosion is the wearing away of the landscape by different agents like water, wind, and ice. The eroded material is carried away or transported by water, wind, etc.and eventually deposited. This process of erosion and deposition create different landforms on the surface of the earth. Work of a River The running water in the river erodes the landscape. When the river tumbles at steep angle over hard rocks or down a steep valley side it forms a waterfall. As the river enters the plain it twists and turns forming large bends known as meanders. Due to continuous erosion and deposition along the sides of the meander, the ends of the meander loop come closer and closer. In due course of time the meander loop cuts off from the river and forms a cut - off lake, also called an ox-bow lake. At times the river overflows its banks. This leads to the flooding of the neighbouring areas. As it floods,it deposits layers of fine soil and other material called sediments along its banks. This leads to the formation of a flat fertile floodplain. The raised banks are called levees. As the river approaches the sea,the speed of the flowing water decreases and the river begins to break up into a number of streams called distributaries. The river become so slow that it begins to deposit its load. Each distributary forms its own sediments form all the mouths forms a delta. Waves of Sea Waves The erosion and deposition of the sea waves gives rise to coastal landforms. Seawaves continuously strike at the rocks.Cracks develop.Over time they become larger and wider .Thus ,hollow like caves are formed on the rocks. They are called sea caves. As these cavities become bigger and bigger only the roof of the caves remain, thus forming sea arches. Further, erosion breaks the roof and only walls are left. These wall like features are called stacks. The steep rocky coast rising almost vertically above sea water is called sea cliff. The sea waves deposit sediments along the shores forming beaches. Work of Ice Glaciers are "rivers of ice"which too erode the landscape by bulldozing soil and stones ti expose the solid rock below. Glaciers carve out deep hollows there .As the ice melts they get filled up with water and become beautiful lakes in the mountains. The material carried by the glacier such as rocks big and small, sand and silt gets deposited. These deposits form Glacial moraines. A Glacier Work of wind Have you ever visited a desert?Try to collect some pictures of sand dunes. An active agent of erosion and deposition in the deserts is wind .In deserts you can see rocks in the shape of a mushroom, commonly called mushroom rocks.Winds erode the lower section of the rock more than the upper part. Therefore, such rocks have narrower base and wider top.when the wind blows, its lifts and transports sand from one place to another. When it stops blowing the sand falls and gets deposited in low hill-like structures. These are called sand dunes. When the grains of sand are very fine and light.the wind can carry it over very long distances. When such sand is deposited in large areas,it is called loess. Large deposits of loess is found in China. Sand dunes
Found along about two-thirds of the planet’s tropical coastlines, these semi-aquatic plants constitute some of the most dynamic and biologically complex ecosystems on Earth.
The tsunami that struck Southeast and South Asia in late 2004 killed nearly 230,000 people and destroyed villages, towns and cities across 14 countries. But some affected areas escaped the massive devastation that other regions saw — thanks to healthy mangroves dotting their coastline and acting as protective barriers. Sitting at the edge of land […]
