Anne Louise Germaine de Staël-Holstein Born in 1766, commonly known as Madame de Staël was a French woman of letters and political theorist. She was a voice of moderation in the French Revolution and the Napoleonic era up to the French Restoration. She was present at the Estates General of 1789 and at the 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Her intellectual collaboration with Benjamin Constant between 1794 and 1810 made them one of the most celebrated intellectual couples of their time. She discovered sooner than others the tyrannical character and designs of Napoleon. Short regency stays with detachable straps! Made with 100% white cotton herringbone fabric, brass eyelets, and options for the following: STRENGTH LAYER - Cotton Duck Canvas: Heavy duty, tightly woven cotton canvas (9oz) with a simple weave. A good, slightly more relaxed alternative to coutil. - Cotton Coutil: Very stiff, very tightly woven cotton with a herringbone weave (7.5 oz) and high thread count, preferred for corsetry due to its resistance to stretch and wear-through of boning. Imported from Whaleys Bradford Fabrics in the UK. BONING TYPE: - Polyester Boning: 10mm x 2mm polyester. Sturdy, bendable, provides both support and a relaxed fit. - Synthetic Whalebone: 10mm x 1.5mm, made of very dense, very stiff, kink-resistant plastic, most akin to traditional organic whalebone. Wissner brand imported from Germany. -------------------- (06/13/2023 Design Update: All stays will be made with a 2" raised back, which improves overall fit and helps keep straps on the shoulders.) All seams are welted to add strength, and all boning channels and lacing eyelets are reinforced with pre-shrunk buckram. A drawstring application in the bust neckline allows for minor adjustments. The detachable straps are around 12" long, and ties and lacing will be provided. Back lacing stays are made with a 1.5" - 2" gap, and front lacing stays are made with a 1" - 1.5" gap to allow for size fluctuation. Please provide the following measurements/details in the personalization box: - Bust Circumference - Underbust Circumference - High Waist Circumference - Bust Point to Underbust Length - Lacing Type: Back Lacing, Front Lacing, or Both? -------------------- FAQ Q: Do you make these in plus sizes? A: Yes, I make the stays custom sized for all sizes, plus and petite included! Q: What is the difference between the duck canvas and the coutil? A: The duck canvas is thick, sturdy, and has a simple weave, and is considered an alternative to coutil. Coutil is the preferred material for a corset or stays strength layer, as it is a tightly woven herringbone weave that is thinner, crisper, and sturdier than the duck canvas. Q: Why offer duck canvas if coutil is preferred? A: I import the coutil from the UK and sometimes they face unexpected shortages, so I'd like to have a backup option if I can't get my hands on the coutil for long periods of time.\ Q: Why offer the softer polyester boning when the synthetic whalebone is preferred? A: Much the same as the reason for the coutil, the synthetic whalebone is imported (and thus more expensive) and sometimes hard to get ahold of. So, its nice to have an alternative to still make items to sell, and also sometimes customers might want or need a more relaxed option. While the synthetic whalebone is more resistant to kinking, this is mainly a concern for long-line stays and corsets where the boning has to dip into the natural waist under high pressure. Thankfully, short and mid-length stays don't face that particular concern. Q: How do I care for my stays? A: The less often you have to wash your stays, the better and longer they will last. Always wear something underneath your stays to protect them against sweat and oils, and something over them to protect them against the elements. It is highly recommended that you dry clean them only. If absolutely necessary, wash in cold water with clear soap and hang to dry. Use an iron to steam out wrinkles if necessary, but BE AWARE that the cotton materials have NOT been preshrunk, and coutil has a high shrinkage percentage/rate. The reason for not pre-shrinking the materials is 1) Washing does wear down the fabric and causes fuzzing on the surface, and 2) Some people prefer to keep the original sizing agent (starch) on the fabric, which would be lost with washing, which would reduce the stiffness and crispness of the fabric. Q: Would you recommend stays for everyday wear? A: For modern day clothing? Not really. I would recommend investing the same amount of money in a well fitted (or even custom fitted) modern day bra. If you want a bra with more chest coverage, I recommend looking into long-line bras! Q: How long until I receive my item from my order date? A: Processing time plus shipping time, which changes throughout the year based on order volume. October through January will have shorter processing times (as little as a week), and February through September will have longer processing times (as long as 2 months). Q: Can you make this with a different decorative material? A: Yeah! If we can find and order it online, I can make it! Except maybe velvet. I HATE velvet. And sequins.
