Happy Friday! It is a new month and a new Viva La Verve Sketch Challenge. I have a card to share using April's Viva La Verve Sketch. My card today showcases a few NEW Verve stamps and dies which will be released Tuesday, April 10th! Stay tuned for the Spotlight Hops beginning tomorrow, April 7th! We have a fun weekend planned! For my card I started with some fun DCWV Wildflower pattern papers. I used some sweet blush dotted and striped pattern papers. I stamped the sentiment from Verve's Words of Wisdom stamp set using versa mark and heat embossed using gold embossing powder. I lightly sponged some berry sorbet ink to the center for effect as well as to make the sentiment pop. I die cut, stamped, and gold embossed the butterflies using Hope Lifts stamp set and coordinating Lifted Hope Die Set perfectly using the Tim Holtz stamping platform onto white card stock. I added foam tape to add dimension and help the key elements pop. I used the with the new Lacey Frames and Lacey Trim Duo die sets. I added the main panel to a top folding white card stock base. The presents and the tree are both paper pieced using the same prints of City Sidewalks DP and I colored the garland and bows with some Spica glitter pens. This could be anything in your stash. I've used a diagonal stripe stencil and sponged on a light gray pigment ink. I made sure to leave areas "unsponged" to achieve this look. I used one of my FAVORITE Verve stamp sets.......Poppy Birthday. I went with red, deep orange, and pink poppies and die cut them using the matching Build a Poppy Die Set. After arranging my poppies, I stamped my sentiment (from Poppy Birthday). As a last detail, I diecut a Pennant Trim Die in pink and added just a snippet in the corner and embellished with clear sequins (from Pretty Pink Posh). For my card today I needed a birthday card for my baby boy! Except, he is not a baby anymore. He has technically not been a baby for a long time. However, today, he becomes a teenager! WOW! The Big 13! Where did the years go? I am still having a hard time believing it. It seems like just yesterday he was just toddling around. So, here is my very "manly" card for my little guy who is actually taller than me already! Have A Happy Happy 13th Birthday, my son! I combined Happy Days with the newly release Small Celebrations set. I combined these sets to create what I call sentiment building. I also love the large words that come in the Happy Days set that I used to create a soft muted background panel for my sentiment. I have used this set a few times for this look. I used Verve's Cut Above Charming Banner die to create a clip like detailing to house my baby bracelet bead letters. I distressed most of the edges with distressing tool and ink, added a strip of stitched ribbon, and topped it off with a textured button. As always thanks so much for stopping by! Christmas cards are completed...so now it's time to create some thank you cards! That was Jeanne's challenge for the Free 4 All Challenge on SCS - to create a "simple thanks" card. I also used Tosh's great sketch for the last Viva la Verve Challenge of 2012. My inspiration for the colors came from the Tuesday Trigger photo...love this serene room that just beckons you to have sweet dreams! The area rug, gingham bench and pale yellow spread inspired me to use these papers...a different than usual combination, but one that I ended up liking! Hi friends! Happy Saturday! Today I'm sharing a mixed media card I made yesterday. We've had some long power outages around here lately, so yesterday the power company was upgrading the equipment on our street to make things more reliable. Which meant another 3 hour power outage, so while the boys were taking a rare nap I stole away to the studio and got my fingers dirty! {grin} ETA: I didn't think the earlier photo did this card justice, so I've updated it with one taken in my usual photo setup. {grin} I started with the June Week 2 Viva la Verve sketch turned on its side. As usual, I made a few tweaks, but the basic bones of the sketch are there. The background is made with the Doily stencil by Christy Tomlinson and some ink spray and paint. The big scallop border is a sticker from Crate Paper that came in my Scarlet Lime Mixed Media kit (along with the Doily Stencil) a few months ago. I added a little burlap for the curved panel on the sketch, then substituted butterflies (using the All Aflutter Die Set) for the circles, since it seemed to symbolize being changed, just like the quote. The vertical panel is several layers of washi tape overlapping each other, then stained with a Faber Castell PITT pen. I finished with some dark chocolate flatback pearls from Pizzazz Aplenty for the butterfly's body. Not my usual photo set up, but if I waited to drag that all out it would probably be another couple weeks before this got posted and I wanted to cross something off my list this morning. {grin} Since I took the photo directly on my work desk after I made the card, here's another photo including my supplies. I have another creation using some of that brand-new Verve that released the end of last month. The sentiment comes from Brighter Days, and my layout is this month's SFYTT: My sentiment panel is die-cut using Verve's Tabbed Rectangle die and accented with a pennant strip that was done with Verve's new Pennant Trim die. Other embellishments include some turquoise trim (Webster's Pages, I believe), some Zva paper flowers, black Divine Twine, and some Kaisercraft turquoise gemstones. Hello friends! Happy Friday. Today, I have a couple of cards for you using brand new stamps, just released few days ago by Latina Crafter. For this card I used the new stamp Nena con Banner (Banner Girl) and the sketch from Viva La Verve Week 2. This card is a 5" square card. The patterned paper is so pretty and part of the September Kit. The Cherish doily is from Top Dog Dies. The cute image was colored with Spectrum Noir Markers, the flower was made with these dies, added a big twine bow and pearls and the card was done :) The sentiment says: You are special =============================================== For this card I went super CAS, I used the new stamp set Disfruta (Enjoy) and the sketch from Retro Sketches. I used the little flower and repeat stamping it in different colors (All Memento Ink), then I stamp the sentiment in St. Valentine Archival Ink. Finally, I added White Opal Liquid Pearls. Time for another Mojo Monday sketch and this one allows for a great use of patterned papers. Since Valentine's Day is now over, time for hearts go to the back burner (for a while anyway as I just love using hearts on cards) and flowers and butterflies get to take center stage. Happy times as I just love using both! Papers are from MME's A Mother's Love and the sentiment is from Verve's Lean On Me (adore the big, bold sentiments in this set!). Out came my Flutterby die and the leaves on the olive panel are from Bloom and Grow. Think this card will be going to my daughter. High school is such a tough time for girls and this will be an encouragement for her to not to try to be anyone she is not, but to simply be herself and grow into the person she is meant to be. For the most part she is very good at doing just that, but I'll have this in reserve for a time when she doesn't feel good about herself. For all the snow the East Coast is getting we are getting the liquid version over here on the West Coast! The rest of the weekend was spent watching a ton of the Olympics -- yes I'm an Olympic junkie! Canada's athletes are making me proud and it brings back many fun memories from when Vancouver hosted the Winter Olympics in 2010. Cried buckets when Alexander Bilodeau repeated his gold medal win in the Men's Moguls and then ran over to give his biggest fan, his brother with cerebral palsy, a huge hug. Then he once again gave credit to his brother for being the motivating factor for his achievements. Lots of other fabulous highlights as athletes push themselves to be the best they can be. Love it!! My cousin is getting married this weekend, so I created a card for the happy couple. She's been so busy with the preparation of the wedding, she's had no time to read my blog. Hopefully, she won't decide to start reading it today. ;) The bride loves black and white damask as much as I do, hence the paper choices: The papers are from DCWV La Creme Matstack, which I've had for quite a while. The center panel is flocked. The stamps (both frame and sentiment, as well as the die for the frame) are new, from Verve. Got these goodies with my Christmas money. The punched frame is made with Martha Stewart's Deco Fan corner and border punches. I tied a slim bit of ribbon through the holes at the top. Hi friends! Happy Friday! It's time for another Viva la Verve! sketch and this week's hostess is Laurie Schmidlin. And as a special surprise, I'm featuring the brand new Be Okay Plain Jane that released this morning. I was saving this stamp for our next release, but with the babies due in only 4 more weeks, I have no idea when the next release will be, so decided to just release this stamp by itself. It's a phrase that has been near and dear to Mark and I throughout this pregnancy, and I'm sure we'll continue to say it to each other on a daily basis after the twins are born.... everything is going to be okay. For my card, I went with a favorite springtime color combo of mine... pink and green. The papers are from the Victoria Gardens collection from Echo Park and the butterflies are from Verve's Twitterpated set. I added some ribbons, liquid pearls and some rhinestone bling along the sides to dress things up, but still stayed pretty true to Laurie's sketch, other than moving the bow a bit. Happy Friday! I am popping in with another card for this month's Verve Viva La Verve Sketch. This card is just screaming with primary colors and patterns. I needed a male birthday card so I think this works. I started out with some fun pattern papers from my stash. I used Verve Falling Leaves, Flourised Tag, and Starry Die die sets to create the balloons. For the main balloon I used Verve's Small Packages stamp set to stamp the sentiment. Next, I die cut a few of the and Wavy Hearts stars to embellish a few of the balloons with star accents. I added some 1/4" grosgrain ribbon and frayed the edges for some added detailing. Mother's Day is coming up next week, so I used the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches to create this mailable Mother's Day design. The simple design uses stamps from three different sets from Verve. I inked up the floral image from the Kind Words set using cat's eye shaped ink pads so I could use lavender for the flowers and green for the stems. The image was stamped on a cream oval, leaving space below for the words. It's hard to see in the photo, but I dotted the center of each flower with a bit of white Liquid Pearls. It adds the tiniest bit of dimension and shine to the image. I paired the "happy" from the Because of You set with the "Mother's Day" from the Wonderful Marvelous set for the sentiment. The words were inked in a darker green ink to stand out from the flowers. I matted the image panel on a green oval, then adhered it to a leafy green patterned panel. The finished panel was adhered to a green card base to match the mat beneath the image. I'm so excited to be hosting the Viva La Verve December Week 3 challenge over in the Verve Forum on Splitcoast! I'm guessing many of us are busy with holiday activities, so I've kept the sketch super simple. Here it is: Instead of inspiration pictures this month, we're going with an inspiration theme - Ornaments & Holiday Decor. Hope you can play along! Here's my sample: The sentiment panel is stamped with a greeting from Glad Tidings and is framed with the Vintage Oval Frame stamp. I used the matching Vintage Oval die to die-cut the frame, then accented it with a black heat embossed snowflake, also from Glad Tidings. The snowflake is topped with a black button and further accented by a trail of bling peeking out from behind. The sheet music paper is from The Girls' Paperie and the snowflake pattern is from Making Memories. For the horizontal strip, I used some burlap ribbon (SEI) and baker's twine (Papertrey). The edges of the papers are dusted with some Martha Stewart snow glitter. This is the third of four Viva La Verve sketches for December. Hi friends! Welcome to February! Today Verve is releasing a brand new set and ribbon collection! While I intended for this set to be a much earlier release, a busy life, sickness and manufacturing delays have me feeling blessed that the set has actually made it here. Since these stamps are hot off the presses, our normal release hop is going to be a post-release hop on Tuesday, February 4 to share ideas with More than Love and the Pastel Polka Ribbon Collection. I do have a card to share with you today using More than Love, though! And you can see another sample over on the Verve Blog along with a little more info on our new release. The layout for this card is this week's Viva la Verve January Week 5 sketch, converted to a 3.5" x 5.5" card because I'm kind of loving that size lately! For the bottom layer, I stamped the smaller heart image from More than Love in crumb cake randomly across the panel. Next I stamped the big striped heart image in wild wasabi and cut with the coordinating Wavy Hearts Die Set. The circle in this panel was screaming rosette to me, so I pulled out some pink polka dot paper and a rosette die and got to work on that, then made the valentine's tag to tuck under it. The smaller hearts are cut with the Heart Quartet Die and then stamped with the smaller heart image from More than Love. The stamped image is slightly larger than the second largest heart in the die (the bottom green heart shows how the stamped brown image is slightly larger than the cut out green heart that's layered on top of it), which means you can stamp over it and get edge to edge coverage on your die cut. You can also do the same with the smaller hearts in the die for an array of polka dot hearts! After that, it was just deciding on some green ribbon down the side and adding a touch of bling to finish things off. We had a great Thanksgiving with family and I'm just popping in quickly today to say I'm hosting the Viva la Verve! sketch over in our forum this week. For December, we're doing a Best of Viva la Verve! series, where each hostess is picking a favorite sketch from the archives. Come play along with us this month for a chance to win a Verve gift certificate! The sketch I chose was originally the sketch for September 2009 Week 4 and was designed by Amber Hight. I loved the layering and don't think I ever got a chance to try this one out, so couldn't wait to give it a go! For my card, I pulled out Poppy Birthday and the Bundle of Joy Dots & Stripes paper pad I bought a while back and still haven't had a chance to use. For the sentiment square, I stamped a couple of the sketchy poppies from Poppy Birthday in soft sky around the sentiment. Next I used the Build a Poppy Die Set to cut a poppy and leaves, then stamped with the coordinating stamps. Instead of ribbon, I chose to use the Award Banner Trim Die (which is back in stock!) and dressed it up with rhinestones and Pastel Sequin Mix . The top scallop border is just a bit of the Award Banner Trim with just the top portion cut off and glued to my panel. I hope you get a chance to come play along with the sketch this week! Hi, everyone! Check out these fun summery colors that Joan - our talented hostess with the mostess - has for us this week on the Color Throwdown challenge blog! I decided to also carry out the nautical theme of the photo and paper pieced the sails of the ship and colored the rest with Copics. I added a bit of fine glitter to the waves for some extra pizzazz! I'm using the basic sketch for the current Retrosketches Challenge - tweaking it by adding the circle element. If you're needing a refresher course like I did with the sailor knot steps, the YouTube tutorial link by Barbara Anders is HERE. My finished card is 5 1/2" square. I used my corner chomper and added a die cut flag using Verve's Flag It Die Set and topped it off with a silver pearl. An easy, clean layered card design! Hi friends! I'm popping in with a card using this week's November Week 3 Viva la Verve sketch + inspiration. As soon as I saw the inspiration picture, I knew I'd have to find some time to play along with the challenge. Christyne had me at pumpkins. {grin} So, I'm recapping this week's sketch and sharing some of my favorite entries from the last week over on the VLV Sketches Blog today. Anyhow, since my desk is covered with Christmas goodies from the recent release, I decided to trade the pumpkins for poinsettias, using lots of cream on cream and golden accents. I wanted a really clean, crisp look and you would not believe how many times I had to stop and remind myself of my objective and step away from the paper distresser. I'm pretty sure I have a distressing problem! LOL Anyhow, the card came together really quickly. I stamped the poinsettia with leaves from Pinecone Christmas in Versamark six times and embossed with gold embossing powder. Next I cut three of the images out with the coordinating die from Poinsettia Pinecones Die Set. The other three I cut with the smaller poinsettia die, so I could pop up over the other die cut. (You get a little bit of the leaves on the border around the poinsettia, but since I was popping it up over the same image and not doing any coloring, I knew it wouldn't be very noticeable. I loved the effect and it was much easier than cutting the poinsettias by hand.) Next I die cut 3 circles (embossed with dots) from cream and matted with some gold vellum scraps I had. The sentiment is also from Pinecone Christmas, embossed in gold and hand cut into a banner. I layered everything together, added some gold ribbon, jingle bells and 3 shiny flatback pearls to the center of each flower and I was done. Pretty quick and super elegant. Hi friends! I snuck away for a little time in my studio during naptime this morning. The color challenge on SCS today was right up my alley.. marina mist, midnight muse and baja breeze. I added crumb cake as my neutral and the dessert option of gems. The stamps on this card are from the new Surely Goodness set from Verve. I stamped the solid flower in marina mist, baja breeze and midnight muse on the crumb cake layer, added some faux stitching with a paper piercer and a crumb cake marker and then spritzed the cardstock with crumb cake and baja breeze using my air art tool. The focal flower is stamped and then cut with the coordinating Goodness Flowers Die Set. Then I stamped it again in Versamark ink and embossed with iridescent ice embossing powder and popped up on dimensionals. The flower centers are accented with rhinestones which I colored to match with Copic markers. A little pleated ribbon treatment is my only other embellishment. The baja breeze layer is stamped with the largest flower from Surely Goodness in Marina Mist and then I distressed the edges to finish. Thanks so much for stopping by! Well today I'm heading off to stamp with my bestie friends, Laurie and Jen. We've been planning this for months! We call it our Stamping Away weekend. I wanted to get all the Verve sketches done but I have run out of time unless I have time to do more while I'm there. If I do, I will be sure to post while I'm there! The sketch is from Verve and colors are from Color Throwdown. I inked up some wee flowers from the Practicing Creativity set, Barefoot Summer and paired it with a Verve sentiment from Thankful Accents. I have REALLY enjoyed working with my 2 Verve sets for these sketches! Hello! Thanks for stopping by! I just made this card for my son's 8th birthday next week. Normally I end up waiting until the night before but this week's Casology Number challenge reminded me. :) I used Louie's 123 by Lawn Fawn to make a negative die-cut layer for my card. The layer, including all the ovals and triangle from the numbers, were popped up. The 8 is a die-cut from a blue Shimmer Sheetz that was nestled inside the 8. I then embossed a birthday sentiment from Verve Poppy Birthday in white on black card stock. This design could easily be modified to fit any age - throw in a favorite color - or even a favorite animal holding the banner...I'll have to remember to revisit this idea. Thanks for looking!
