Trimming the Town isn't just for Christmas. I show you how you can make year round use of this beautiful Stampin' Up! Suite available to purchase HERE.
Hey there crafty friend! Thanks for popping by today, I have a fun project for you! As you might know, 'slimline' cards are super on trend right now, so I decided to create one! Our Creative Stampers Blog Hop this month is playing with the Trimming the Town Suite in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalogue. Be sure to check out the list at the bottom of this post, to check out the amazingly talented crafters participating in our Blog Hop! I'm so in love with the Trimming the Town Suite, the stamps and dies lend themselves perfectly to creating a landscape, which works well for a slimline card. This card was inspired by Laura Milligan, when I saw her card, I just knew I had to case it! I changed up a few little details on my card, but the inspiration really came from Laura. Here's the card: I used a piece of the Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper as the backdrop for the card. I used the stamps and Stampin' Blends to colour in the stamps and then cut them out with the coordinating dies. Here's a fun fact: the 'Coming Home' Stamp Set is part of Stampin' Up!'s Making a Difference program...with each purchase of this stamp set, $4 will be donated to charities devoted to adoption, foster care and infertility. So not only do you get to make fun projects with this cute stamp set, you're also making a difference in the lives of so many! Here are the details for the card: Whisper White Thick Card Base: 8 1/2 x 7", score at 3 1/2" Designer Series Paper: 8 3/8 x 3 3/8" Landscape pieces - whisper white: 2 1/2 x 5 1/2" (x2) Stamp and colour images on Whisper White Envelope: 8 1/2 x 11", score on short side at 2 1/2", 6 1/2" and long side at 1 1/2", 10 1/2" Isn't the patterned paper SO CUTE? There are so many amazing colours and patterns in this paper pack and it's ON SALE! Stampin' Up! is currently having a sale on their Designer Series Paper, with a huge selection of our papers on sale for 15% off! For more details, click here Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you liked the card :) Please let me know what you think in the comments! Brought the middle pattern paper up so it would give my houses a background to sit on. If you would like to watch me talk about this project share. Hello and welcome. Today I am taking part in a blog hop that is all about the Trimming The Town Product Suite. This is an awesome suite of products, so you are sure to see some amazing projects from everyone taking part. I have already posted a series of projects using these products. Just search for Trimming The Town on my blog to see them all. For today's project I wanted to use just the car image and pop the small Christmas tree on top. I love the idea of getting a fresh tree and hauling it home on top of the car. It will never happen in my house as my husband is against fresh trees and all the mess they make. But I could imagine if we ever did do this, the whole thing would be like a Griswolds movie scene. So this card is as close as I will probably get to the whole fresh tree on top of the car thing. Now that you have seen my project, it is time to see what everyone else has made. Thanks for dropping by. Have a great day. Cheers, Narelle You can purchase all the supplies I have used from the my online shop here. Want to make a bunch of easy cards with your paper scraps - that will look like you spend a lot of time on them?
I never like to be restricted by the theme of a stamp set or Designer Series Paper. The Coming Home stamps are suitable for many occasions, as is the Trimming the Town DSP, which has some festive designs and some patterns which work all year round. All week I’ve been working on non-Christmas projects using the Trimming the Town Suite ready for this blog post... and all week I’ve been seeing social media and blog posts from the Great and the Good working on the same theme! Great minds clearly do think alike. It began with a request from my husband for two New Home cards and the houses from this Suite are perfect for this. I did stamp some using the Coming Home stamp set and colour them in, but they ended up looking a little too Christmassy, so I turned to the Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper and die-cut the houses from there instead, using the Home Together Dies. The Pool Party and Poppy Parade colour combination is one of my favourite retro looks for Christmas, but it works all year round, too. To be honest, the hardest part was finding a suitable greeting. Time to Celebrate from Itty Bitty Birthdays was ideal for one of them, but as the second recipient was bereaved at the same time as moving house, this felt a little bit tactless. Instead, I chose “Rest and Relax, you deserve it” from the Timeless Tropical stamp set. For the car-themed cards, I did use the stamps, colouring them in using my Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. For the Happy Birthday card, (again, using a greeting from Itty Bitty Birthdays, I lined up the images using the Stamparatus. The dotted lines, reminiscent of a road, come from the Box of Sunshine Paper Pumpkin Kit. This card would be ideal for someone passing their driving test – although, the last I heard, if you weren’t already booked in before lockdown, you don’t stand much chance of getting a test until December! I stamped the images freehand, but they’re easy to line up as the stamp is photopolymer. I stamped and die-cut an extra car, coloured it using Poppy Parade Stampin’ Blends and popped it up. “Way to Go” comes from the Simply Citrus All-Inclusive Card Kit. Finally, this house in a very built-up area was inspired by Martin Stone. When I CASE a card, I often like to do it without having the original in front of me, which ensures I make it different. This is why Martin’s version is classier and less busy. I got a bit carried away with the little houses at the back but it was fun to create, using a series of post-it note masks. When colouring these images, keep it simple. Just a swipe of the dark marker in one corner, then blend it out using the light version of the same colour. Don’t go overboard, or the ink can bleed out beyond the lines. Keep it simple and you’ll get great results every time.

Trimming the Town isn't just for Christmas. I show you how you can make year round use of this beautiful Stampin' Up! Suite available to purchase HERE.
Well, hello peaches! Welcome to the Trimming the Town/Poinsettia Place Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team Blog Hop! Each month our very talented and creative team of designers will be bringing you inspiration, so get comfortable and have a ton of fun hopping along with us. You may have just arrived from the wonderfully talented Jan Clothier's Blog. She has made some lovely projects! Today, the team will be showcasing projects using products from both suites so be sure to check them all out! I had the pleasure of creating projects using the Coming Home Bundle. This set is so festive and has just so many possibilities for crafting all of those holiday crafts. I've even used the adorable houses to create birdhouses in previous projects! Here's a look at the set: My first card has some really great texture added to the background. I used the So Many Snowflake Dies to create a mask to use with my Embossing Paste. To get tone on tone paste colors you can simply add Pool Party Refill Ink. My next card was inspired by one of our past holiday Paper Pumpkin projects. I used some of the dies from the set to create rolling hills in Glimmer Paper, Balmy Blue, and Misty Moonlight. I added some All the Trimmings Ribbon behind my sentiment for some added texture. I fussy cut some tiny houses from the Trimming the Town DSP to complete my scene. My final card again showcases a cozy little home fussy cut from that festive DSP. I created a soft watercolor background using Pool Party Ink to mimic a soft snowfall. To finish it off, I added a few tiny stars from All the Trimmings Embellishments. This gorgeous suite was so much fun to create with and a great way to make fun, festive holiday projects for gifts, holiday cards, or parties. I hope you have enjoyed all of today's cards and designs. Keep hopping along and check out my other fellow teammates’ pages. They have some pretty amazing projects to share. Even though we are all excited about the Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas projects we can make with all the amazing products from Stampin' Up!'s August - December 2020 Mini Catalog, there are still birthday cards to make. That doesn't mean we can't incorporate some of our new holiday products, though.
I used the Stampin’ Up! Poinsettia Petals stamp set and some of the sweet Trimming The Town DSP to create a Christmas card to share with you today.
It’s another exciting day in the world of Stampin’ Up!® crafting as we have another international blog hop for you so a warm welcome to everyone, particularly those who are here for the first time. This time we are showcasing the Trimming the Town Suite, which is a fabulous suite in the August-December Mini Catalogue. It’s a very special suite as the stamp set, Coming Home, as well as the Coming Home Bundle, raises money for adoption and fostering charities. I have this gorgeous set and have used it in this blog post here. And the Designer Series Paper, which I haven’t used today but made great use of in these projects, is currently available at 15% off until the end of October, so make sure you don’t miss that! In fact, I have the whole Suite (that happens more and more lately!) but today I particularly want to concentrate on the beautiful Home Together Dies because I have been using these recently in my events. All my events are currently held on Zoom, which is the closest we can safely get to a real craft class right now, and I like to offer a variety of events to suit all budgets, which often means creating projects based on dies, which I can cut in advance. For my October Crafty Friday event, where we enjoy playing with techniques, we made two cards: We eased ourselves in gently with this clean and simple white card, which draws the eye into a pair of trees on a hill. The layer with the circle is also embossed using the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder, which is one of my favourites. I also know that many of the ladies attending had that folder, and those who didn’t could use something equally neutral. When die-cutting and embossing the same piece, make sure you do the die-cutting first. Otherwise, the cutting process will squash your lovely embossing. I stamped this lovely sentiment from Yuletide Pasture in Misty Moonlight. I love how Misty Moonlight goes so beautifully with one of my favourite colours, Pool Party. The card is finished off with these gorgeous Adhesive-Backed Snowflakes which I discovered recently. I actually bought them for a November class but couldn’t resist opening them early and have since had to re-order. Honestly, just buy them; they’re so delicate and subtle. The ladies asked me why we’d started with the simpler card instead of this Northern Lights card which followed. The answer was because the Northern Lights card is sponged and I really didn’t want inky fingers on a such a clean, white project! I love the Northern Lights technique. It’s one of those which turns out different every time, so it’s not for those among you who like order and predictability in their crafting! You begin by sponging a couple of stripes, diagonals or smudges on your Whisper White cardstock using a bright colour or two. I’ve used Granny Apple Green and Magenta Madness. Make sure you fully blend them into each other as you don’t want to see any white cardstock through. Next sponge around them using a dark blue ink – I used Misty Moonlight. And again, make sure you blend in well to the bright colours so you don’t get any gaps. You’re aiming for full colour saturation here, so don’t worry if you go over some of the pink/green. If in doubt, just keep going. If you’re not happy with the results (and everyone reaches this stage in the Northern Lights project), just plough on and add more ink. It will work out in the end, trust me. To add a wintry feel to the sky, we then splashed it with clear water. This is another favourite technique of mine. You can do it to any sponged or brayered background; just take a fine paintbrush with a little water, hold it over the project from about 10cm away and tap the top to flick water on it. If it looks like nothing has happened, just wait a few seconds to allow the ink to lift and you’ll see magical snowflakes appear in front of your very eyes. If you don’t just repeat the process. But be warned: if your paintbrush is too big or too full, you will get great big splashes instead of delicate dots. Once you have your Northern Lights background you can do whatever you like with it. We added a snowy hill from the Home Together Dies, along with a little house, a greeting and some baker’s twine from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack. And, of course, some of those must-have snowflakes, too! I hope you have been inspired by my Trimming the Town projects. Please head on over to the rest of the blogs in the hop for yet more inspiration.
