Tucked away in the Dandenong Ranges just outside of Melbourne, Myf Walker’s garden is filled with botanical treasures that any serious natural dyer would love to get their hands on.
Before the July- August garden begins to blooms its gaudy head off and I get carried away taking photos, I thought I might present some of the last of my June eco print images. Artist and bl…
I have been eco-printing for 5 years, and have not used any eucalyptus until last month. Much of India Flint's work focuses on the use of Eucalypts, native to her South Australia. I have been tempted, but since it does not grow here in the frozen north, I have concentrated on usi

A good find, really perfect match I found finally. I tried many times natural printing on leather, this is the best lamb skin I've ever sourced. Last week when I passed by a street stall I found the very soft lamb skin, good price, good quality and so soft after steaming. The size is the whole piece of a small lamb. I'm really into leather prints. These days I have been doing with assorted plants particularly love the flower prints. I like to print on the down size (not the smooth surface) as outcome looks much better. Photos below speak themselves........ Cosmos printed from yellow to red Gerbera and nandina Lemmon marigold, willow and cosmo Hibiscus I love most, delicate and vivid. Hibiscus tiliaceus Sometimes I use flowers of home grown or from friends' garden. Sometimes I pick windfalls while biking This is purple but prints no colour yet shape is pretty. Today I went biking with the lambskin prints for shooting. It's soft as a towel. I've made a few pouches with the swatches. I'm crazy now! Almost every day doing experiments after I found the good material. Fun to play and share.

I have read several times about Michel Garcia’s indigo vats – in reports from the ISEND natural dye conference in France, in posts on Helen Melvin’s blog and most recently in an article by Jane Deane in The Journal for Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. Michel Garcia is a bio-chemist who has been researching indigo dyeing […]
This past year I participated in Glennis Dolce's Moon of the Month subscription and received 2 Indigo dipped moons every month with a complete list of the fabrics used and any other tidbits she wanted us to know about the making or significance of them. She just started it up again and it's not to late to subscribe for 2023. It was so much fun never knowing what size and shaped moons she'd create and what special fabrics she'd use, oftentimes cutting into old kimonos she's brought back with her from Japan. Glennis also has a tour guided trip to Japan this year that looks amazing. I believe there are a few spots left too. Glennis is a wealth of information on Japan and Shibori. She also offers many other courses, cards and pieces she has made, several of them she has slow stitched into banners and bags. Above are only a few of the 24 moons she sent out this past year. With the December moons she also sent out six different rabbit silhouettes that she suggested we stitch onto a few of the moons since this is the year of the Rabbit. I did a few and wasn't sure if I liked them, but when I saw this pix of them I think I might do a couple more before I sew them together in some type of banner. My dear blogger friend Liz from I'm going to Texas also participated in the monthly moons and has already started to sew hers onto a Quilt top. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Now for a Mandala fold, take a square piece of fabric, fold it in quarts and further in eights: Try to fold the remaining part into its place between the outer eights. Found this at the hardware store, it's an opener for paint cans, but I have my own plans with it. In the mean time I am also experimenting with different types of fabric, this is a 80% cotton, 20% polyester blend with an 'open' weave, which makes it easier for dyes to penetrate into the inner layers.
