Let me start by confessing that when I said last Tuesday I'd be back again this week to share some more YouTube clips, I wasn't actually that confident that I would be... But here I am! Gold star for me. :) Today's clips are brain breaks - those that you can use at any time of your day to allow your kidlets to get their wiggles out. I like to have brain breaks that the children can copy or follow along with - saves those flailing dance moves and break dancing on the floor that do nothing other than hype the kids up. (Is it just me or do some kids have no other freestyle dance moves than mad waving and jumping?) Just a reminder - always watch a clip before you show it to your class, and check the sidebar etc. for inappropriate ads and images, just in case! First up is our current favourite, Dooby Wop the Robot Dance! Who doesn't love Sid the sloth? Try his Sid Shuffle! This one's great for little ones - The Hokey Pokey is an oldie but a goodie! Hi 5 is perfect for the classroom because of their G-rated dance moves. :) Move Your Body gets the kids up and wiggling. If your class likes this one, there's a heap more from Hi 5 you can try. OK, I know I said I like to have a clip that the kids can follow - but this one is freestyle! You will be the 'Best Teacher Ever' if you work this one into your playlist - it's definitely the flavour of the month (year?). Before I go I'll mention something that I'm positive is already on your radar: TpT is holding a SALE this Thursday and Friday (the 27th and 28th) to celebrate being 3 million sellers strong! My store along with many others will be 20% off during this time. Enter the code TPT3 when you checkout to grab and extra discount. Happy dancing! Lauren

Do you want to manifest with ease and live a fulfilling life? Once you have your free human design chart, you can start your self-discovery journey with your energy type. It's been proven that individuals who know and use their Energy Type have more success in all areas of life. The path to being your happiest, most successful self is one that is as unique as you! We are all different which is why a strategy that works for a friend or influencer might not work for you. Please remember that no energy type is better or worse than another just like there is no best zodiac sign. Understanding your energy type, strategy and signs of frustration can help you live in alignment and help you discover your soul's purpose while living in joy during the process. Many of us have spent our entire life living according to programming from our parents, friends, mentors, etc. so it will take time to un-program those habits to live according to our chart. We recommend starting with small daily rituals that help you relax and get in better tune with yourself. If you find you don't have enough time, just 5min of self care every morning and evening will actually give you more time by focusing your energy and allowing a greater level of efficiency. We have a 30 day challenge that curates daily self care rituals based on your human design energy type that helps you use your chart to be your best self or you can create your own program using the human design information below. HUMAN DESIGN REFLECTORS ARE THE SOULFUL SAGES OF OUR WORLD As a human design reflector, you are born with a unique and special connection to the cosmic world around you. It wouldn’t surprise us if people make jokes about your being a psychic (or if you actually are one!). It is your role to enliven and lift up the energy of others. You can amplify and reflect other people's energy to them in a non-imposing, non-judgmental way. You will lead the way to a global awakening of consciousness but it is important for you to find your place in the heart of your community. Even though you have all open centers you have a protective aura to help guide you and are no more susceptible to outside influences than any other person. Your biggest fear may be not being seen or included (talk about extreme FOMO) and this can lead to non-authentic behaviors and feelings of disappointment. It is important that while you feel the energy (pain and joy) of others to stay neutral. Questions to ask yourself: “Who am I today?” or “Can I be myself?” If you feel yourself dipping into this feeling, remember to delight in everyday miracles, which you’re so good at finding. Feeling disappointed? It may be time to switch your circles or take a look at your environment. Feeling disappointed is your tell tale sign you are out of alignment. Your strategy is to wait and get in sync with the lunar cycle. Surprise in the everyday miracles of life is what ignites your soul so look for them constantly and appreciate them even if everyone around you thinks you're crazy for hugging the tree. One moon cycle of living in alignment with your chart will help you to awaken your mind to what is your truth vs what is the programming. Focusing on your truth over your programming will help alleviate the resistance. Glow inside and out with a curated journey of oils and self care acts that will help you discover your purpose and infuse self love and joy into your daily life. CLAIM MY INVITATION Human Design Reflector Self Care Guide Morning – As someone who tends to take on a lot, it is important for you to ground yourself each morning by journaling and saying your affirmations as you apply your face oils. During the day - As an open and sensitive being, it’s important to take care of yourself and not let yourself become overwhelmed by the world’s pain. It is best for you to spend as much time in nature as you can. In order to release the energy you pick up during the day, it’s important to have a dedicated space for you to unwind. Recommended Essential oil: De-Stress Nighttime- For a human design reflector like you, it is not a good idea to go to bed completely exhausted and start to wind down an hour before so you can release energies that do not belong to you and prepare for a restful night. Make sure you get your alone time! Essential oil: Sleep because of the Sandalwood essential oils! Smell is also the only sense connected to the limbic lobe of the brain, which controls emotions and is strongly linked to behavioral patterning so can help you reprogram your open center and strengthen your defined centers. Use oils with your self care to awaken your senses and recondition any old stories you may be telling yourself that no longer serve you. Glow inside and out with a curated journey of oils and self care acts that will help you discover your purpose and infuse self love and joy into your daily life. THE MANIFESTOR HUMAN DESIGN: HOW TO THRIVE AS VIVACIOUS VISIONARIES The Manifestor Human Design is also rare indeed as only 10% of the population identify as Manifestor. Go head, take a victory lap. But then come back, because we’ve got work to do! You have a gift for initiating action and creating impact that is long lasting. It is the main goal of the manifestor human design to find the peace to do what they want, when they want to do it, which can make them great entrepreneurs but not always great employees if not in a leadership role. You are at ease in solitude and find peace in manifesting what you want for yourself which can sometimes not make you the best team player – you’re probably relieved you’re not stuck in school doing group projects anymore! It may feel as though there is an ever present pressure to make things happen, as this is key to fulfilling your purpose. The manifestor human design can have a repelling aura that can sometimes be misinterpreted and make people feel defensive or protective. To improve relationships, it is important to communicate after you have made a decision but before you take action. You may need to confront the following fears: Fear of upsetting someone, fear of confrontation, fear of control. It might feel easier to just become a hermit, but you can totally learn to not listen to these fears and grow even more in your relationships. When you are resisting your true nature and not using your strategy, you might tend towards anger. The manifestor human design soul desires peace, a place of no resistance. In order to do that, you must follow a strategy that works for you. In your relationships, you have to bring people along the journey with you by telling them (informing) what you are doing even if you are worried they don’t agree. It’s definitely not the end of the world if someone disagrees with you! Manifestor Self Care Guide: Smell is the only sense connected to the limbic lobe of the brain, which controls emotions and is strongly linked to behavioral patterning so it can help you reprogram your open center and strengthen your defined centers. Use oils with your self care to awaken your senses and recondition any old stories you may be telling yourself that no longer serve you. Morning: For the manifestor like you, it’s important to begin the day with some movement, such as yoga or stretching. Even 5-10 minutes is something! Apply your face oils while saying your affirmations. During the Day: Burst + Retreat is necessary. The manifestor human design type needs to take care not to experience burnout, which they will tend to do left to their own devices. A capitalist society will peer pressure you into working too hard for too long. Instead, honor your rhythm – retreat and rest when needed. Think of it as an act of rebellion! You may have bursts of productivity, but then you need to rest. Don’t subscribe to the “shoulds” – whatever works best for you is what’s best for you. Essential oil: Headache (Lavender and Peppermint essential oil) Night Time: Start your wind-down routine by washing your face and then apply an oil while tapping your whole face. For you, it is best to lie down for up to one hour before going to sleep in order to discharge from the day. You can do whatever activity feels best to you (reading, television, listening to music...), though it’s probably best if you stay off of social media. One moon cycle of living in alignment the manifestor human design chart will help you to awaken your mind to what is your truth vs what is the programming. We invite you to embark on a self-discovery process that brings self-love and joy. CLAIM INVITATION MANIFESTING GENERATORS HUMAN DESIGN Manifesting Generators are full of creativity and energy and love to work when you love what you do. You love to be engaged and will follow through step by step to the end, but if you get stuck you do need new input or instructions so you can continue to respond and thrive. You are amazing at mastering skills and need to be careful of the temptation to quit. Manifesting Generators have the benefit of efficiency as they can see steps that can be skipped but can also be impatient and skip important steps along the way. You are more likely to be impatient and aggressive compared to pure generators. You will get there...keep at it! All Manifesting Generators have embracing auras but have to wait to respond to the right opportunity. The frustration can come when you feel like waiting to respond feels like doing nothing. This is the opposite of their nature as the energy force of doing comes very naturally to a Manifesting Generator. Trust and patience are the name of the game. Think

As humans, we all strive to look and feel our best. However, society has long held certain beauty standards that can be difficult to meet. Establishing consistent accountability when using the workshop approach to teaching and learning may seem daunting at first. After all, your students are producing, and consuming an immense amount of content during workshop on a daily basis…far more than you can (and want) to grade. The good news is, you don’t have to grade every activity. I know what you’re thinking…”If I stop grading every single thing…there won’t be enough accountability.” The reality is, there are other far more efficient ways to establish accountability and boost meaningful student growth. One of these ways is routine student self-reflection. If you’re ready to bring more student reflection to your classroom, these tips can help you establish routines that maintain consistent accountability in your workshop classroom. Creating Rubrics Together A foundational rubric will help you and your students create a common language that can make ongoing assessment more meaningful and fluid in your classroom. Begin by pulling the rubric your district requires you to use, or write a rubric that communicates your parameters for each level of understanding in your classroom. Rewrite this rubric in your own student-friendly language so you can share these parameters with your class. Making a slide or poster for each level on your rubric so it is easier for students to digest may be helpful. Set aside time in your schedule each day to create a one-week series of work sessions when you and your students can rewrite the rubric again as a class using language that is actually produced by your students. You may opt to: Have all slides/posters on display simultaneously while students rotate to stations where they work in groups to make meaning of each level of understanding. Students can then write their interpretations on the slides/posters, which can be aggregated on the final day. Display one slide/poster each day and host a class conversation that facilitates meaning-making for each level of understanding. Record student ideas as you work toward a common, and final definition for each level of understanding. At the end of these series of work sessions, you and your students will have a rubric that is unpacked by them, rewritten by them, and ready to be used by them. Working together as a class to write a final rubric that will be adopted as the foundation makes conversations about assessments more meaningful and productive. Rubric Drawers Once your class rubric is created, you can make it easy for students to consistently reflect on their work by submitting any assignments to “rubric drawers” that are marked with the definitions for each level of understanding. This built-in practice of self-reflection builds students’ intrinsic motivation to reach higher and produce quality work. If you notice your students have a tendency to submit work to the “wrong” drawer, this signals they need a follow up lesson on the type of work quality required to achieve each level of understanding. Using exemplars (examples of each level of understanding from a particular subject area or activity) can help students build a stronger definition for what work quality looks like. As students build their ability to accurately assess themselves, you can also have them attach a short note of justification for their self-scoring. This will provide insight about any misconceptions they may have about their work or the rubric levels your class has written. If you want to track the score students give themselves on an activity, provide a special pen or stamp that allows them to mark their score before placing it in the drawer. In addition, you can have students submit work with the help of a partner. Once an activity is complete, a student can briefly confer with their assigned partner to get feedback, and make a decision about which drawer a piece should be submitted. This provides an additional layer of motivation for students to reach higher, as they know a peer will be reviewing their work quality. Reflection Letters Another routine that can boost student growth through self-assessment is the writing of reflection letters on a routine basis. Students thrive when they know they have an important role in their assessment process, and will be eager to read your response. Begin by creating a prompt that asks students to reflect specifically on different areas of the assignment that will support their goal setting and goal progress. Also direct students to refer to their rubric to self-assess, and provide justification for their assessment as part of their reflection process. This routine will remind students the importance of keeping the rubric in mind as they complete their work each week, which will foster stronger performance. Set aside time to read these reflection letters and write brief responses which may include your own score using the same rubric, and comments that support your scoring. This written dialogue further emphasizes the value you place on student work and growth. If you find the need to differentiate this letter writing process to support the unique needs of students in your classroom. Here are some differentiation ideas: Have students dictate as you record their reflection. Have students circle their score on a rubric and mark evidence with color-coding or sticky notes. Provide sentence frames to scaffold independence. Self Assessment & Reflection In Your Classroom Ready to give self-reflection a try in your own classroom? Here are a few editable tools to help you get started. Once you’ve established student self-reflection routines in your classroom, stop by and share your experience. I look forward to hearing about the growth your students make, and the freedom you feel from teaching in a workshop classroom where accountability and engagement are off the charts.

Hi There! Last week I posted on Facebook about how my team's hallway needed a spring make-over. We were stuck in winter mode and the dark blue butcher paper was starting to depress me. I needed color! I needed funshine... yes... I said FUNSHINE!! This week, I had planned a lesson on self-esteem for my 4th graders. Part of our curriculum is to teach students about tobacco and alcohol resistance. I always start this conversation with lessons on self-esteem and friendships. I started the lesson with a quick powerpoint with two pictures: one of a child frowning and looking down, the other of a child smiling and looking confident. I had the students brainstorm words to describe each of the kids. Then I introduced them to the term self-esteem. We then went to kids health.org and read the article "The Story of Self-Esteem". I use kids health.org a lot. It has great articles written so that kids can understand the concepts. The website even has a read-aloud feature. My students LOVE it because it is a computer voice that often pronounces words incorrectly and they think that is hilarious! After we added our notes to our health notebooks, I introduced the "Garden of Greatness" craft. I had each student brainstorm a list of things that he or she is good at, things that made them feel important, or things that made them feel unique and special. I passed out strips of bright colored paper and circles pre-labeled with their names. Students glued between 4 and 8 of the strips onto the back of the circle. When that was done, they turned over the flowers to the front side and wrote ideas off of their list onto the strips of paper. To finish the project, I collected the flowers and stapled them onto the bulletin board. As I stapled, I wrapped each petal to the back. The finish product turned out great! Bright, colorful, and full of FUNSHINE!! Thanks for visiting! Here are few new resources recently added to my TeachersPayTeachers store: Get it FREE! There are six levels of validation in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which promote an environment where people feel accepted and understood. As much as possible, we should use the highest level of validation in any given situation. The first level is about showing interest and being present while the sixth level is radical genuineness. The DBT 6 Levels Of Validation worksheet asks clients to engage in reflection and describe a scenario where validation would be helpful. For each level of validation, they can brainstorm ways to show support to a friend or loved one going through a difficult experience. Kids and teens answering the worksheet can practice articulating their responses, which helps them develop their communication skills and have healthier relationships. Feel free to pair this worksheet with our DBT 6 Levels of Validation handout which serves as a practical resource on the topic. *This item is an instant digital download.
