Ever since the Victorians invented the Christmas card, people have gotten creative—and a bit bizarre—with their holiday greetings.
Everyone loves a little bit of pizzazz on special occasions, and these swing cards are just the thing to spice up your gift-giving. They are relatively easy to make and amazingly versatile when it comes to sizes and shapes.... you can even buy dies that will cut your entire swing card, fancy shapes and all! Today, though, I'm just going to show you how to do-it-yourself with a basic rectangular swing panel on a square shaped card. SWING CARD TEMPLATE 1. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 51/2" x 71/2". 2. READ THIS INSTRUCTION CAREFULLY FIRST, THEN FOLLOW THE TEMPLATE ABOVE... Place the cardstock horizontally on your score board. You will be making four individual score lines - two at the top that are 1" apart, and two at the bottom that are also 1" apart. Each score line needs to be 11/2" long. As you can see in the photo below, I use a ruler as a guide so I know where to stop the score line. Start by scoring your first line at 31/4". It should only be 11/2" long measuring from the top of the cardstock. Now make another line in the same way at 41/4". 3. To make the bottom two score lines you will need to do the same thing, but measure 11/2" up from the bottom of the cardstock. Make your third score line at 31/4", and your fourth score line at 41/4". Refer to the template above. 4. Use a craft knife or trimmer to cut the swing panel. (Refer to the template for placement and length of cuts.) The first vertical cut is 21/2" long and starts 13/4" from the left hand side of the card and 11/2" from the top. The second vertical cut is 21/2" long and starts 43/4" from the left hand side of the card and 11/2" from the top. Now you need to cut horizontally from the top of the first vertical cut to the top of the second vertical cut WITHOUT cutting between the score lines. Do the same for the bottom section remembering not to cut between the score lines. Your card should now look like the photo below. 5. Fold and crease along the score lines. The card base is now complete and the centre panel should swing as it is opened and closed. 6. To decorate, cut some patterned papers for the inside of the card, removing the sections around the flip panel. You'll also need two panels for the swinging section of the card... one for the front and one for inside. 7. Stamp and colour the two image panels as desired. 8. Now adhere all the papers and panels in place. Remember to fully OPEN the card to place the inside panel. 9. Close the card and adhere the front panel in place. 10. Add any additional embellishments as desired. Stamps:

Welcome to a new challenge at As You See It Challenge. After the colour challenge, it's always a 'fill in the blank' and with those, you never quite know what you're going to get. This time is was a challenging one - what is my least used colour? And what's yours? There's a few colours that would have completed the sentence but they all come from the same group of colours. For some reason, I shy away from orangey colours. I never got friendly with Grapefruit Grove or Pale Papaya. Peach Pie might be a challenge. I can use Calypso Coral at a pinch. But really, if I didn't own Pumpkin Pie, it really wouldn't bother me at all. So that's it - PUMPKIN PIE is officially my least used colour. I thought it didn't look too bad with Pebbled Path, so that's what I used for this card. I started by white embossing the leaf stem from Thoughtful Wishes on to Fluid 100 Watercolor paper. Then I blended Pumpkin Pie ink over it, making sure to have it heaviest at the bottom and getting lighter as it went up the page. Then I added some splashes of water to lift the colour slightly in places and gave it a light spritz with water. Once it was dry, I stamped some more of the stems in Pumpkin Pie over the top, making sure to have a variety of heights. Before mounting it onto a piece of Pebbled Path card, I added three strands of Pebbled Path jute twine around it. I got the three strands by cutting a length of twine and pulling out the individual strands of twine. The matted piece is attached to a Pumpkin Pie card base. I used another strand of the twine to tie a bow around the three horizontal strands. The sentiment is white embossed on Pebbled Path and is cut with one of the dies from the new Unbounded Love dies. Both Unbounded Love and Thoughtful Wishes are in the 2024-25 Annual Catalogue, coming live on May 1. Make sure you visit the As You See It page to see what the rest of the Design Team have with this sketch - and to link up your own entry. It's Thursday, and that means it's Challenge time again over at www.createwithconnieandmary.com. This week is a colour challenge, and these are the colours we had to work with: These colours are right up my alley! I decided to use the Basket of Blooms stamp set and matching Small Bloom punch for my card. I coloured the images with my Blends. That gorgeous paper in the background is from the Magic in this Night DSP pack (in the Mini Catalogue). The sentiment is from the Little Treats stamp set and I also added some ribbon from the Playing with Patterns Combo Pack and a couple of Rhinestones. I hope you like my card! Hello stampers! Try saying that quickly six times in a row!! Seriously though, this suite is pretty sweet. Now I really do hate cake decorating, although I do my best to make a pretty cake. This type of cake decorating is more my style. The image in the catalog is quite luscious isn't it? I actually got everything in this suite so that I would not be inhibited in my card making and I wasn't disappointed. The Berry Burst Metallic edge ribbon is my favourite ribbon so far in the book. It is a gorgeous colour and it
Do you have bird feeders? My husband and I love to watch the birds, he tends quite a few feeders. The hummingbirds are very active at the feeders this year. I've been trying to get a picture of them, but so far it hasn't worked. I'll share it with you when I do. Yesterday a strange thing happened at the feeders....a Coopers Hawk swooned in and captured a Mourning Dove. We didn't actually see the swooning, but saw the after effects. My husband is a bird man and knows many species and can identify a lot of birds by their song. I'm still learning, but it doesn't stop my appreciation of them. What kind of birds do you have at your feeders? Here's a Victorian bird graphic I've cleaned up a bit, and as usual, am offering this, and the other images in this post free to you. Free Victorian Bird Graphic for You I like the simplicity of this next image as well as the color combination. Don't forget to click on each image for a larger view. Free Vintage Birthday Graphic for You Here's a sweet image for a friend, I like the soft colors. Free Vintage Friend Graphic The next image I'm sharing today is a scripture card from the Victorian era. I just love to have scripture surrounded by loveliness, don't you? Free Victorian Scripture Card Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31 Free Vintage Graphic Have a blessed day my friends. Remember...God knows when a sparrow falls, and when a hawk swoons in on a mourning dove. He knows and cares about your troubles....He knows the number of hairs on your head. He is constantly thinking about you and will see you through the trials you face.

Hello my crafty friends Welcome to Karen Burniston's December 2019 Designer Challenge, where we were asked to make something using the brand new Surprise Ball Pop Up. Since some of the DT like to work ahead, Karen had also posted the Oct/Nov & December Challenges well ahead so when I was creating my cards for the Pear Blossom Press & Karen Burniston Blog Hop, I also made my December Designer Challenge Card. Yes - this is a Surprise Ball Pop Up that also LIGHTS UP! I'm so happy that I can finally share it with all of you. Before I get into the detail shots, here is a quick YouTube video so you can see all the details of my card. I chose a 6 x 6" patterned paper pad for my card rather than use one of the three patterned paper packages I challenged myself to stick to for my holiday cards. But this one had the feel I was going for, so I went with it. The paper has lovely copper foiled bits and I do love some sparkle and shine on my holiday cards! I also used the new Flap and Closure to hold the card in the closed position and added sparkly brads to the centre of the circles. The is the back of the card ... The ball on this card doesn't spin, to prevent the wires from twisting and possibly breaking. It just made sense to secure the bottom to keep everything in working order. I fussy cut two tags from a sheet of the patterned paper, and adhered them back to back catching the side of the flap at the top edge. The PUSH HERE stamped circle has a copper foil mat. Below is the card unlit ... ... and then lit. I punched out a couple of circles from the sides of the ball, and added a vellum panel in behind it so it would softly diffuse the LED lights from the EZ Lights Pack. There are two windows, and since the EZ Lights come with three wires/light bulbs, I adhered the third one on the base of the card to shine through the cracks in the ball. It's hard to see in the light I was taking the photos in, but I did take one in a darker room so you can get a better look. I hope you will check out the rest of the Design Team ... their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project tomorrow (Wednesday) on her blog. Happy Friday Eve and welcome to another week with the Happy Inkin' Thursday Blog Hop. This week the team was given a color challenge, I chose to use Pretty Peacock, Smoky Slate, Lost Lagoon and Moody Mauve. If I am being honest these are not colors I would have put together, however I love this card! The card front is a panel of Basic White card stock. I stamped trees from Stampin' Up Above It All Stamp Set with Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock ink along the bottom border. I stamped the sky lift cables with Smoky Slate ink in the top corner. I ran the Basic White panel through my Cut and Emboss Machine with Stampin' Up Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder. I die cut a piece of Moody Mauve and Smoky Slate card stock with Stampin' Up Above It All Dies. I adhered the die cuts together with liquid adhesive to create the sky lift. I cut a small piece of Vellum and adhered it to the back of the sky lift for the windows. I adhered the sky lift to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals. I stamped the sentiment with Pretty Peacock ink on a piece of Basic White card stock. I die cut the sentiment with Stampin' Up Deckled Rectangle Dies. I adhered the sentiment die to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals. I adhered the card front to a Smoky Slate mat. I adhered the layers to a Moody Mauve card base. I finished the front off with Stampin' Up Faceted Gems Trio Pack. The inside is a panel of Basic white with trees stamped trees using Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock ink. The sentiment is stamped with Pretty Peacock. I adhered the panel to a Smoky Slate mat prior to adhering the layers to the card base. Thanks so much for hopping by today! Up next is Terry Lynn. Yay...it's Saturday and FINALLY...winter is letting go of its claws and it truly looks like a spring day! I'm off this weekend but have lots on my to do list and posting this card between laundry loads is on it! I love the Deconstructed Sketch Challenge this week...but then I always love Jen's layouts! This was a fun one to team up several patterned papers and I chose Graphic 45's 6x6 Patterns and Solids pad. I also love using SU's scalloped border EF which adds the perfect detail to a card. Since I had my Tim Holtz medallion die out for another banner project (details will follow later this month), I decided to use it as the focal point here. I had to plop some pearls in the corner for balance. :-) I'm sad to see Baja Breeze leave SU's color family and hated to use up the Baja seam binding...but...time marches on and there will be other colors to take its place I'm sure. Enjoy your w/e...I know I will! STAMPS: Small Celebrations (Verve)

Hi friends, There are so many beautiful Sale-a-bration products which are available till the 31st August with qualifying sales. The Wonderful World stamp set plus the Wonderful World Designer Series Paper (#159918) are free with a $180 purchase (in Australia). I fussy cut 2 of the flowers from one of the sheets of DSP. I used the Clear Wink Of Stella (#141897) on the flowers for some glimmer. The base card is Basic White (#159228). I adhered Adhesive Sheet (#152334) to another piece of Basic White card and cut this with the die from the Organic Beauty Dies (#158983). This was trimmed so it was slightly smaller than the frame (which was attached on top.) The die-cut was attached to the base card. The frame was cut with a Fabulous Frames Die (#159163) using Foil from the Silver Foil 12”x12” Specialty Pack (#156457). This was attached to the card with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (#144108). The flowers were attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430). “Happy Birthday” from the Go To Greetings stamp set (#158763) was stamped with Rich Razzleberry ink (#147091) and cut with a Frosted Flurry die (#159811) and also attached with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. “Love what you do and share what you love.” lesleyjendra.stampinup.net [email protected]
