Here's my last-minute entry for Mojo Monday 261, which I'm also sharing over at the Cutters Creek blog. Super cute sketch this week: ...
Good morning, Crafters! It is almost Christmas! The year has just flown by! Last year at this time I was just coming home from the hospital after having extensive surgery! What a difference a year has made! Here were are, soon to flip over to 2020! Can you believe it?! I have a few more projects to share in 2019. This one is a cute "repeat" project share. I made a version of this little mini back in May (you can see it HERE). But, it's so cute, I wanted to do a remake! When I have crafter's block, or when I am short on time, I often "copy off" myself! {smile} Graphic 45 recently re-release the Bird Song Collection as a Deluxe Collector's Edition! I still have a bunch of this paper in my stash from when it was released the first time! So...I decided to make a little mini with this lovely paper! This little book is 4 1/4" tall and 3 1/4" wide with a 1" spine. Is this the CUTEST size of mini ever?! It is perfect for attaching gift cards to the pages, or wallet-sized snapshots, or little notes! It could make a great little book to jot down your goals for 2020! I used the original Bird Song Collection 12x12 paper, sticker sheet, and the chipboard elements. This little book makes up fairly quickly, but you can always JAZZ it up more by adding pockets and flip outs like I did with this summer-time version HERE or this sweet mini HERE. To create this book, cut two pieces of chipboard to 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" and one piece to 4 1/4" x 1" for the covers and spine. For the hinges, cut black cardstock to 4 1/8" x 4 3/4". On the 4 3/4" length, score at 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2", 1 3/4", 2", 2 1/4", 2 1/2", 2 3/4, 3, 3 1/4", 3 1/2", and 3 3/4". Cut black cardstock to approximately 6 1/4" x 9 3/4". Place the chipboard pieces onto the center of the paper, making sure to keep 1/8" of space between the spine piece and the cover pieces. Angle the corners and add double-sided tape to the edges of the paper, as shown. Wrap the paper around the chipboard, gently scoring the space on each side of the spine piece. Your hinge piece has 13 sections. There are one-inch sections at the beginning and end, and eleven 1/4" sections in the middle. Place adhesive on the first 1/4" section, then on the fourth, seventh, and tenth 1/4" sections, as shown above. (I used 1/4" wide double-sided tape.) Accordion fold the hinge piece to adhere the first and second 1/4" section together to form a hinge tab. Repeat for the 4th and 5th, and again for the 7th and 8th, and for the 10th and 11th. You will end up with a 1" gutter, four hinges with 1/4" gutters between, then a 1" gutter at the end. Attach the hinge piece to the spine. Once again, gently score the space between the chipboard covers and the spine, taking care to NOT tear or crack the paper. Trim four (4) pieces of black cardstock to 4 1/8" x 6 1/4" and score on the long side at 3 1/8". Fold and burnish on the score lines. Attach one scored piece by the open end to each hinge, creating four pages. Close the book and decorate the cover. Trim the cover pieces to slightly smaller than 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" and the spine piece to 4 1/4" x 1". Tie a few pieces of twine together to add some charms to the spine. The chipboard piece I used for the cover is from the Bird Song original collection. I used a die cut to make rosettes from some of the Bird Song decorative paper. I love the dark red, black, and gold colors of this paper! I also found some Asian coins in my stash to use as charms and embellishments. (Actually, my husband travels extensively to Asia, so he brings home coins from many countries. I filched these from his stash!) This book is so perfect for using up scraps or 6" x 6" pads of paper! The inside is very simple. Each page contains a 4" x 3" piece of decorative paper. So EASY! The inside front cover contains a sticker mounted on some cardstock to make a tuck spot. For page 1, I added a journaling spot by using one of the chipboard pieces. Page 2 contains one of the lovely lady cut aparts. Page 3 contains a small rosette and one of the word stickers (original collection sticker sheet). Page 4 contains another word sticker added to the beautiful lantern paper. Page 5 contains a sticker mounted onto cardstock to create a tuck spot. I added a little pocket to page 6 and placed a small, ATC-size, tag inside. There is another little rosette on the pocket. Page 7 contains a cut apart and more of the word stickers. Page 8 has another tuck spot made from a sticker, to which I added a few cut aparts. The back cover also contains sticker tuck spot. This "tiny mini" is so easy to make, and simple to put together! I hope you have fun making your own, with your favorite Graphic 45 collection! Thank you so much for looking! I love making little books and I've made a whole collection out of the different Graphic 45 paper lines. They are only 4 x 3 and could be used for notes, small picture or quotes. So far I haven't done anything with any of them except make a case to hold them! I made this one with the new Bird Song collection and used a chipboard frame for the front. Inside pages are quick to decorate because they are so small. I cut out some lanterns and strung them on some black twine. Here is the back cover. The little corner pieces are from the new Spellbinders Marvelous Square dies. Two posts on one day! Scroll down to see the Christmas Layout helps and measurements. The Graphic45 Bird Song collection is an amazing one! It's elegant, stunning, beautiful... and so on. It inspired in me the idea to make a five project series of classes for this paper, and the first is a box for a double use, with hidden tags and a custom set of cards and envelopes that we make from scratch. The following four classes will include a fan mini, a spiral bound organizer, an oriental tray made from scratch using chipboard to place these items on, and lastly a photo shadow box for the wall above the spot where the tray will be on display. I'm so excited about this project. I just hope the class participants will be happy with all the work to get out these wonderful projects; such as fussy cutting which G45 always seems to call for, and other techniques that will be new to them. Any way the box and custom cards are completed, so I'll show them. The other projects are on hold to be made until supply orders come in so I may complete them. This is the little cigar box that I started with after carefully peeling off all the labels on the box. I painted the box using of all things a bottle of Black Enamel Accents because I wanted it shiny without having to have layers of different products. This is how the box turned out on the outside. I used a gold gel pen to scribble in the branch and leaves behind the woman and then played with some flowers by inking them and pinching them in the center to make them look more like cherry and apple blossoms. The Glossy accents aren't yet dry on the square red brad, but I was in a hurry. I drew the same pattern idea behind the woman, onto the brad with the gold gel pen. Here is the inside of the box without the cards in it. ... and taking the tags out... And now you see it with the cards in it. Because the box is narrower than an A2 card I had to customize the size of the cards and make the envelopes to fit inside the box. Here are the cards individually. These lanterns where all fussy cut out and are layered onto the card anywhere from flat on the card up to three layers of pop dots! Here is a bit of a side view. Now, number 2 card and envelope. You want to see the fans close up? I linked each chain myself. My class is just going to love me for this one, but I just couldn't resist the idea. And the last card... A more side view of it... And why not show you all three cards together. So that's it for series one of the Bird Song Project Series. I only have one dilemma now. I happen to know to people in my family who love Japanese things! So I may have to regretfully break up the set when I reluctantly give it away! I`d love to keep it, but really have no room for it. I'd love to hear from you, your thoughts on this project and the seires' concept and ideas. Thank you for stopping by! And, happy paper crafting! For those of you attending the class here is the list of things you will need for this class - Bird Song Box & Card Set Tuesday, November 27 2:00 - 9:00pm with a meal break $50 Intermediate to Advanced levels This is what you will need for class: -paper trimmer -scissors -fussy cutting scissors (if you have-not required) -pencil -ruler (longer than 6") -gold gel pen -Glossy Accents -Yellow Petal Liquid Pearl -Red Brick ink pad -ink blending tool -black marker (not the journaling pen) -clean 1 inch sponge brush (maybe 2 just in case) -quick dry glue (& a long stick pin in case you need it) -double sided adhesive -black thin pop-dots -Splat mat (must) -hand wipes or damp cloth and/or gloves for painting -small needle nose pliers (jewelry ones work well - I will have one there, but as we will be using it for a while, it would be great if you could bring one) -paper piercer and piercing pad or a small hole punch (smaller than the average hole punch) -Scor Pal (or Martha Stewart Scor Pad) -bone folder Thank you again!
Ok - so I'm really getting the hang of this video thing and this time I decided I could tackle something a little more challenging. This project is reminiscent of the ABC Primer book project bound with coloured pencils that I did for one of the ATDML retreats. This time, my stab binding is done with chopsticks to fit the theme of the Birdsong papers. I learned the hard way that you can't upload anything longer than 15 minutes to YouTube, so here is my video tutorial in two parts... Part 1 is a 'how to' for the basic book and binding... If you want to see more of my decorated book - check out part 2 of the tutorial... One thing I forgot to say on the video is to give credit to Helen who showed me how to make the flowers a few years back when I first bought the Stampin' Up! scalloped circle punch. Thanks Helen! I hope you enjoy my videos!

One of the new Summer release paper collections from Graphic 45 is Bird Song. Bird Song is an Asian-themed collection with beautiful reds and blues, stunning birds and flowers, and lovely ladies. I felt this was the perfect paper to use for cardmaking. The possibilities for beautiful and elegant cards are endless with this collection. I confess I have a stash of Asian coins and Asian-themed stamps in my studio! When I was a little girl my babysitter was from China. She had married my father's best friend and came to America in the 1950's. (I get my middle name from her! Her American name is DeeDee and I am Gloria Dee!) DeeDee watched over me for a few years before I reached school-age and taught me to love Asian food and colors, and to have a love of Asian art and culture. In turn, I taught her to read English! (Yes, folks, I learned to read at the age of two! By first grade I was reading at a jr. high level. That's your "Gloria Fun Fact" for today!) Red is my favorite color, so you can be sure I was attracted to the reds in this collection! However, Asian themes also tend to have orange tones as well as some pinks. What a joy to use all of these colors together! Bright and vibrant! I paired the new Graphic 45 metal key and keyhole staples with some flowers and Asian coins to make a pretty statement on my card. Those bright colors, popped with the black and tan neutrals give me goosebumps! I also used a packaging tag, covered with paper for an accent. I love to use the pretty G45 packaging! This card shows the soft side of the Bird Song Collection. Here, I used the soft blues and pinks for a feminine look. (I admit, the red is more ME!) To make this fun butterfly accent, coat one of the G45 metal butterfly staples with matte gel medium and adhere paper to it. Trim the paper and sand the edges. Then, glue a metal pen nib to the butterfly to mimic the butterfly's body. I used another keyhole and an Asian coin with flowers and punched butterflies. (My husband travels to Asia for work and brings me home Asian coins from all the places he visits.) If you think that Bird Song is not "your style," why not give it a try and make a few cards or tags? You may be surprised! I am not a competitive person. I am quite pleased to waddle through life, doing my own thing, oblivious to any ladders that require climbing or plateaus that need reaching. My odd bird feathers are not easily ruffled. But given a challenge or dare... well, my mind is set alight and determination sets in. Over and over thoughts will tumble in my brain until, at last, a solution finds a way out. Whether or not the challenger ever sees the results is irrelevant. All is well with the world so long as I know the riddle was solved. And so begins the tale of these cards. When my son’s sensei mentioned creating a karate themed craft, my mind raced. Using the beautiful papers of Bird Song I’ve created a series of cards inspired by the belt colours yellow, orange, blue, green, brown and black. The cards are simple and restrained, reflecting some of the principles of martial arts: to be humble, outwardly gentle, and display courtesy. An ideal way to commemorate the important milestones of belt achievement. More pics (and other great projects!) on the Graphic 45 blog. Welcome! The April Really Reasonable Ribbon Blog Hop starts at the RRR Blog! You should be coming to my blog from Ginny's Blog. (For the complete blog list, scroll to the bottom of the post.) Here is a peeky at the RRR April Ribbon Club. Lots of "hot" colors! If you have not checked out the club before, I encourage you to do so. It is a nice bag of ribbon each month, the price is out of this world! Only $9 for US shipments! That is an awesome deal for about 14 yards of ribbon! That's 64 cents a yard! I had two images colored for use with this ribbon set, but I chose blues that were either too denim or too aqua and had to start over! I ended up making this card with Graphic 45 Bird Song paper. I love the turquoise blue next to the black and other colors in the paper. The turquoise sheer organza with satin center ribbon is so pretty. I want to hoard it! I wrapped some of the turquoise diamond satin around the card just to "anchor" all the items I glued to the card. I poked around in my stash and dragged out a bunch of die cut templates that have not seen the light of day in a while (or ever) and made a little focal point on the card. I just purchase all those yummy flowers this week. So pretty. I hope you enjoy the hop! Make sure to leave a comment! I love your comments! Hop over to Cherry's Blog next! A paper crafters blog full of design ideas and inspiration.
Still on Graphic 45 Birdsong paper series, and for this one I used one piece of paper to cover the card front, and I distressed and inked the second piece. I fussy cut elements from further matchin…
