We wrapped up Friendship Week today. We did a lot of discussing what it means to do a friend and what are some fun/safe things you can do with your friend. I created this fun matching game to use in our sensory bin. I dyed some rice for the first time and it turned out perfect! It also reminded me of grass, so I found pictures of kids on the playground. On the cards I wrote words that describe what a good friend does, like share, help, kind, etc. Then, we picked a card, read the word, and discussed the word more. I added these fun "Buddy Builders" from Amazon and they were perfect "friends" for our park. This book is a great way to talk about the nice things our hands can do. Especially, if you have any kiddos who like to use their hands in an unsafe way ;) I also dyed noodles for the first time, too! We used those noodles to make friendship necklaces! We also used a bead kit for friendship bracelets :) Click on image to grab this bead kit! These peanut butter and jelly color matching cards were a huge hit! We played restaurant and worked together to serve the correct colors. I got these from The Homestead Teacher! Grab them HERE! We like to think of words that start with each letter. When we are out, we will see a letter and I always have to think of something that starts with that letter. It totally helps connect learning, so I made these "F is for friends!" page and we decorated the 'f' different supplies. For our play dough invitation, I printed off this cute friendship clip art set from Creative Clips! We put the friends in our play dough and pretended we were playing at the park! The last game we did was this fun math activity! We had to help the boy get to his friends by rolling our dice and counting each circle. It was a great way to practice some counting, number identification, and taking turns! Grab these activities HERE! *NOTE: the play dough friends are not included in this due to terms of use, but they are free for you to download HERE!

Creating A Classroom Community Through Art Part 1 Red, yellow, and blue are great alone, but when you mix them you create something beautiful. This is how lasting friendships are formed. Two individuals coming together to create something beautiful - FRIENDSHIP. The children pick a friend to work with and were given a large sheet of paper to decorate. We used tempera paint (red, yellow, blue), flannel sheets, and plastic plates. We diluted the paint with water to make it easier for it to pass through the flannel sheet. The children then placed one hand in one of the primary colors, and made handprints on the table. "What does the paint feel like on your hands?" "What do you think will happen if you hold hands and mix your colors?" "Can you create that color again?" "How many different colors can you make?" How can you make that color brighter?" Holding Hands to Mix Colors Color Mixing: Yellow + Blue = Green Color Mixing: Red + Blue = Purple One of the final art pieces. This is a working piece of art that the children will continue to add to, and extend their ideas. More to come very soon!

A Preschool Friendship Theme that includes preschool lesson plans, activities and Interest Learning Center ideas for your Preschool Classroom!
Whether it's the beginning of the school year or anytime in the middle--this is one of my favorite activities to do with students. As much as school is about reading, writing, math, science, social studies, PE, art, music, and all the subjects--it's even more about the relationships that students build with their peers. No classroom is perfect because we are all learning! We start off with FRIENDSHIP TOWERS. At first I have some building blocks (you can use Jenga blocks, unifix cubes, really anything that you can build with) and we talk about what makes a great friend by asking questions like: What do great friends do? What do they sound like? What do they look like? (as in actions) What do they make you feel like? And with each response I build a tower. I have my students write down key terms that they say and add to their "Friendship Tower" page. A freebie printable is at the end of this post for you to use because #yourock. Then I talk about how all friends aren't perfect...and I take away a few blocks. We discuss how this doesn't mean that a friendship is over, it just means that you have to keep building. Now sometimes something might happen where you feel your friendship tower has been completely destroyed. Sadsville. We discuss cirmcumstances like this because students will encounter this--it's real life y'all. BUT then we talk about how it's okay to rebuild and refortify your friendship and how it is totally possible! Then students get to build their own friendship towers and encourage one another and cheer each other on for the "coooolest tower" or the "tallest tower" or the "funkiest tower" and so on. I'm allllll about simplicity with a big impact and my students alllllllways love this one. JUST had to share! Will you try this? I think you should! Let me know how it goes in the comments. Oh, and grab this handy dandy freebie printable {HERE} Over and Out!
