I took a little time this weekend to play with some Distress Ink combos. I have some strips of watercolor paper and mixed media paper from past projects and I just had to put them to good use. These strips won't be wasted, they'll eventually make their way into cards. Here are a few of the color combos that came out of this project. Well, not just backgrounds ofcourse. I chose some of my favorite colors and tried others to see how they work together. I made thin strips of the cardstock I usually use , blended them with my mini blending tools and then stuck them back on a full sheet, so I can insert them in my binder. I scanned them instead of photograping them, as it's close to midnight, I thought that would give the best color representation. But I'm not so sure it worked that way. So if you like the sound of some of my recipes, why not recreate them on your own cardstock or watercolor paper if you prefer and see how they work for you. I hope you can read my handwriting ;-) I made a Word document but you can't download it anymore, it shows you all the recipes I made, you can even print it and then use the otherside for the blending, that way you'll always know they colors you've used, just cut along the lines, I've made it to fit a European sized A4 (about 8"x11") but it's Word, so you can adapt it. If you want one I can send it to you if you message me on facebook/cardsbymaaike....I don't know how to make it downloadable as I don't have a website anymore. Hi everyone, I am up on the Scrapbook Boutique blog today sharing my play around with the new Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks. (A little warning - there are alot of photos so you may need a cuppa!) All the samples below have been sealed with gloss medium, I found that this enhanced the colours especially on the black cardstock. This first one is using a gloss pearl cardstock which is quite thick. I applied the oxide ink directly onto the card stock and them blended it with a bit of water and baby wipes. I dried this and whilst drying, dripped water droplets onto the cardstock. These two above were so much fun - I have used water colour paper and applied the ink to my craft mat 3 colours at a time, spritzing them with water and then placing the water colour paper on top. I kept doing this with different colours, drying in between each layer. The first few layers I swiped the paper through the ink, the top layers I dabbed the paper into the watered ink. I also spritzed the paper as I was drying the layers. This was using only 3 colours and on canvas paper. The ink was placed on the craft mat first and spritzed with water before running the canvas paper through the ink These final three are using black cardstock and all use the same technique but different colour combinations. I have turned some of the backgrounds into cards: For the card above, I have used the 49 and Market stamp from the Gabi's Haute Couture Collection. I have stamped onto white tissue paper and adhered to the cardstock. I wanted to see how much of the ink showed through the tissue. In the sample below, I have stamped the image directly onto the card. As the background was very busy I have added some Glass Beads, Micro Beads, Nuvo Crystal drops and glitter to the dress and flowing below the dress to complete the card. Again, as with all the cards I have kept the embellishments simple to let the backgrounds shine. To the card above, I have added 49 and Markets flowers and a simple rub on sentiment. I have backed the card above with red cardstock to make the black more predominant. I run the black inked card through a We R Memorykeepers, Geometric Embossing folder for added texture. The flowers are Prima Flowers and a simple "hello"sticker stuck to red cardstock and fussy cut out. Again keeping it simple - I have added some black twine behind the 49 and Market flower and embossed a Kaisercraft Wooden Flourish word with Stampendous Embossing Enamel. Here are some close ups of the cards: I hope that you have enjoyed my testing of the Distress Oxide Inks and I can say they are fantastic and highly recommend you get them if you are having any doubts. Hello my crafty friends and welcome back to my cardmaking blog. Today I'm excited to share a new video series I have started, Distress Oxides Color Combos and Cards. Each Sunday (hopefully), I will share one or two color combos and then I'll make a card(s) with them, start to finish. Read on to watch

Today, I've got a super awesome tutorial to share with you and it's all about altering chipboard with perfect pearls. I really love to use wooden veneer or chipboard. It's a really simple way to give a clean and simple card a little something extra. Sometimes I'll use the plain old wood, and sometimes I want to do something a little fancier. This happened to be one of the fancy times. Our current challenge at STAMPlorations happens to be Clean and Simple (or you can choose to use the sketch) (or you can do both) (I just like parentheses). I chose to doll my wooden snowflakes up by using Perfect Pearls. There are many different ways to use Perfect Pearls but today I'm going to show you how to create a shimmery, metallic look with them. It's easy! Hardly any steps are involved - just pour a little bit of powder into the cap and mix with a few drops of water to make a paste. Then apply to the chipboard. You can use as many coats as you want to build up the opacity. I used a shimmery white and a shimmery turquoise and then I added some rock glitter while the pearls were still wet. Because why not? It turned out really cool! (pun intended) I also knew that I wanted to play along with my girl Jenn Shurkus's and her friend Audrey's Coolest Card Series challenge. This week they are focusing on watercoloring techniques - and using snowflakes/snow/snowmen. I made a watercoloresque background using the Distress Ink Dipping Technique and Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers, and Evergreen Bough. Then I embossed a sentiment from the STAMPlorations Fond Expressions 2 stamp set and put the whole kit and caboodle together. Hi there :) I've got a new card set to show you today. After making Krystal's birthday card, I decided that I'd like to make some similar cards for a card set. I remembered that I have some fantastic sentiment stamps from Kaisercraft that I'd never used before so this totally fits into Darnell's NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) criteria! I decided to enter my cards into the Addicted to CAS (Clean and Simple) Challenge #89 because the code word for the challenge is PETALS and my cards have really pretty petals! So... back to the beginning... here's the stamp set: Kaisercraft You - there are 4 separate stamps in the set and I love the bold writing... it kind of reminds me of Subway Art. I started off with a piece of Distress watercolour cardstock which I ran through with the Lawn Fawn stitched border die. Then I cut 1/2 inch off the right hand side - this was totally pre-planned after watching Amy's video: I loved what Amy did with the patterned paper and embossed strip so I used her idea for my card. Once my watercolour paper was ready I chose one of the sentiment stamps along with the stalk of my chosen flower from Simon Says Stamp - Spring Flowers. I stamped the images with Versamark ink and then heat embossed them with Zing Pewter with metallic finish. Since I was using my MISTI I went ahead and did all four sentiments and stalks at the same time: The pewter embossing is actually a lovely colour... darker than silver but with lots of depth! Next up, I stamped and heat embossed all the flowers and 'bubbles': I decided to add colour using Distress Inks so I chose Mowed Lawn for all the leaves/stalks. The flowers were coloured using Salty Ocean, Shaded Lilac, Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio and Picked Raspberry. I used two colours for each flower and blended them using my water brush. When I was happy with my flowers and stalks/leaves I added some Evergreen Bough Distress Ink with LOTS of water to create some subtle shading in the backgrounds. Then I added some striped pattern paper from Kaisercrafts After Five collection along with the pewter embossed strip... LOVE how smart it looks! By the time I'd done all that the rain and dark, thundery clouds had come for a visit so I called it a day. This morning I came back down to my art studio and decided that the cards looked pretty good... but that they needed a finishing touch! So... out came the sequins and rhinestones... oh my! Happy Saturday! To make a simple birthday card, I masked off the top and bottom of a panel of white cardstock and blended the open area with Distress ink. Joyeux samedi! Pour faire une simple carte d'anniversaire, j'ai masqué le haut et le bas d'un panneau de papier cartonné blanc et mélangé la zone ouverte avec de l'encre Distress. I flicked a little water onto the panel, and once dry, I stamped the beautiful English Garden stamps with Versamark ink and embossed with gold embossing powder. The sentiment was added last and also embossed.
