Question from Yesterday: DonnaK asked where I buy Twinkling H2Os. I bought mine at Marco's Paper, a brick and mortar store in the Dayton area. But you can find them at the big craft stores (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's) and buy with a coupon! Now on to today's post, which hopefully Blogger will post in a timely fashion.... Today's Tip is one of those that, on the one hand, seems like a no-brainer, but, on the other hand, makes life so much easier! After getting sick of doing the same math over and over, I made a simple, handwritten index card, which I posted on my bulletin board right over my workspace, with a list of dimensions for cutting stamped panels to matte evenly on a standard 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card. It lists the sizes for cutting panels in quarter-inch increments. (Those of you who live in countries where "standard" is different can easily adapt this idea for yourselves.) I typed it up for those of you using American measures. Hopefully, you can save it and print it for your own use. If I cut a 4 1/4" x 3" stamped, panel, for instance, all I have to do is move up a quarter inch to get the measurements for a 1/8" matte all the way around the stamped panel. For a thinner 1/16" matte (as on yesterday's card), it's easy enough to just add 1/8" to the dimensions of the stamped panel. I hope this makes sense. And here is a happy CAS card that utilized this little chart. Design Discussion: Please note how I rooted the flowers in the open space provided by the sentiment. I just love the way that looks!!!! Supplies stamps: Shady Tree Studio ink: Memento paper: PTI white, SU brilliant blue accessories: dimensionals. Personal News: My son Jack, who has high-functioning autism, was released from private occupational therapy Wednesday! After four years, he's finally functionally appropriate for fine motor and hand-eye coordination! YIPPYYYYY! He continues to receive OT through our school district, but this is a wonderful milestone for him to meet...and one less regular therapy session to cart him to! His developmental pediatrician saw Jack yesterday and is blown away by his progress. Jack truly has blossomed in the past six months. He's even one of the best readers in his regular 2nd grade class! Needless to say, we're on Cloud 9 around here right now, and I just had to share!!!
I have 5 different simple notecard designs to share with you! I'll show you them designed using the Stampin' Up! Inked Botanicals Suite Collection, however, you can make with any Designer Series Paper and a few stamps, ink, and paper! That's the beauty of these card layouts, follow the templates while creating with your favorite card making products!

Need a guide for card sizes? Me too. Most of the cards I make are A2. But, I have a stash of envelopes that are for various card sizes. So, here's a chart that I created with the measurements for the most commonly used card sizes. A1 3 ½ × 4 ⅞ 3.5” × 4.875” A2 4 ¼ × 5 ½ 4.25” × 5.5” A6 4 ½ × 6 ¼ 4.5” × 6.25” A7 5” × 7” Biz 3 ½ × 2 3.5” × 2 Square 5 ½ × 5 ½ 5.5” × 5.5” ETA: I figured it would be nice to have measurements for the corresponding layers. Here you go: Card Size Card Measurements Layers Measurements A1 3 ½ × 4 ⅞ 3.5” × 4.875” 3 ¼ × 4 ⅝ 3.25” × 4.625” A2 4 ¼ × 5 ½ 4.25” × 5.5” 4 × 5 ¼ 4” × 5.25” A6 4 ½ × 6 ¼ 4.5” × 6.25” 4 ¼ × 6 4.25” × 6” A7 5” × 7” 4 ¾ × 6 ¾ 4.75” × 6.75” Biz 3 ½ × 2 3.5” × 2 3 ¼ × 1 ¾ 3.25” × 1.75” Square 5 ½ × 5 ½ 5.5” × 5.5” 5 ¼ × 5 ¼ 5.25” × 5.25”

A few weeks back during one of my videos I showed my Card Templates. You may be wondering what they are and what the fuss is all about or what even are Card Templates? Since that video I have had so many messages and emails asking me where the link to my card templates and how to find the images, so I knew that it needed it's own special post for us to be able to find and share with others that you think will help. To explain: Card templates are - a template of the layer you would like to put onto your card or the card base that have the measurements written on the layer or card base. WHICH TUTORIAL DO I NEED TO PURCHASE? US & CANADA - Letter Cardstock - Inches Rest of the world - A4 Cardstock - Either Metric or Inches (whatever you prefer) PURCHASE KYLIE'S CARD TEMPLATE TUTORIALS How do Card Templates help card makers? Great for beginners to learn the measurements they need to start simple card making. We all can remember the time we look back and we had no idea how to even cut into the cardstock to make a card! It was overwhelming and at times very frustrating. If you are a demonstrator, have them made up and give them to your new card makers and help them make their own so they always have templates with the sizes there to use whenever they want to create. Those that want to use the card templates as a visual layout. I know that I love Card Sketches as they get my creative ideas flowing and ideas start happening. You can do the same with your templates. Lay them on the card to get the idea of what measurements are going to work. Then once you have picked your layers cutting out is easy as they have the measurements written on them. Makes crafting less frustrating, accurate and fast! Because you have the measurements written down on a visual template - no more guessing! So you make them once and then BOOM you are done. The exciting bit is that you can keep adding to your card templates as you find new ideas and cards that you like. For those that are doing Tutorials and needing to work out the measurements for both Imperial and Metric, it makes life so much easier when you can SEE what you are working with in measurements. You can't simply convert the sizes with Imperial and Metric cards - they are a COMPLETELY different sized card, and all the layers that go with it. So these card templates are fantastic to help you work out the measurements. Check out my video here and an example of some of my card templates I will put below the video. WHICH TUTORIAL DO I NEED TO PURCHASE? US & CANADA - Letter Cardstock - Inches Rest of the world - A4 Cardstock - Either Metric or Inches (whatever you prefer) PURCHASE KYLIE'S CARD TEMPLATE TUTORIALS I would love to hear about how you have found the Card Templates have helped you creatively! Please let me know whether you have made some for yourself or how it has helped others in your classes or workshops. Feel free to share this information with those that you think will benefit from this idea of having card templates.
Once I had figured out the way in which to create a Stepper Card I decided that I wanted one a particular size. After a few attempts that did not work I think I now have it cracked. What is a Stepper Card? Well it is a card which has a full size section and then smaller steps (usually 3). Here is one I made earlier J My card has a Full Size section on the left and Steps on the Right, however you could have any combination of Steps and Full Size Sections, here are a few examples. Here is my explanation for creating my Stepper Card, I have shown my measurements in Blue. Card Size The card size will be determined by the size of your steps, so you will need to do a quick bit of maths first, if necessary you can then tweek the size of the steps until you get the finished card size you are after. 1st Step (Smallest ) – decide on the size of your smallest step & multiply by 2 (2cm depth x 2 = 4cm) 2nd Step (Middle) – decide on the size of your middle step & multiply by 2 (4cm depth x 2 = 8cm) If you add both of these measurements together this will then give you the height of the card (4cm + 8cm = 12cm) 3rd Step (Tallest) – this is the height of your card divided by 2 (12cm divided by 2 = 6cm) The size of card you will need for your Card will be the height multiplied by 2 (12cm x 2 = 24cm), the width of the card it up to you to decide (17.8cm). The card blank I used was 5 x 7 inches (12.7cm x 17.8cm) as the height of my steps was 12cm I needed to trim 0.7cm from the height of the card. The width of the card is up to me to decided, I kept it at 17.8cm. Now you have the size of your card and your step sizes you will now need to decide which Stepper Layout to use… On the back of the card you will be using to create your card you will need to take a pencil and draw the lines to show the border between full size and stepper. One half will be a full size card, the other half will be used to create my steps I am using my Hougie Board to score as it makes life so easy, but you could also measure and then score. For each Stepper section you will need to score each of the fold points (I will score at 2, 4, 8, 12, 18cm)… At the middle point (12cm) you will need to score across the width of the card (I have marked my score lines in pen) Turn your card over and score again on the other side – this will ensure that you can create nice crisp folds on your steps Next take a ruler and knife and cut along the border between Full Size & Stepper… ensure that you do not cut the first & last scored section (again I have shown this in pen on my card) Fold the steps and create the main card fold You are now ready to decorate your Stepper Card I hope that is How to… is useful and you can now create stepper cards at ‘Any Size’ you want.

These Slider cards were really easy and so much fun to make... I love these cards at the moment, I'm sure you can tell when you see them all. Though I must admit I am missing one from the collection, which I left behind for some to use as a guide (it was was one of my favourites too). So of course I did use this card for a workshop project, and yes...everyone loved it! No, this wasn't the workshop project, though I did bring it along to show the versatility of the card. I Just loved the idea of putting the car on the slider and now I'd have to say this is probably my most favourite one. I just wanted to mention here that if you want to save on card stock just cut the length of card to 8 1/4" instead of 81/2". This way you'll get two out of a sheet of A4. You will need change one other measurement though, instead of cutting the slot 1 1/2" from the edge you'll cut 1 1/4", you'll also have a smaller section to stick the card together with ( 1/4" instead of 1/2"). I found changing to these measurements was quite easy to adjust. I just wish I had thought of it before I had drawn up the measurements and instructions... Dawn's Stamping Studio - Slider card Video
