Last month on my weekend with my sister we had the great idea to use old Rolodex holders and cards as art journals. You can read more about the beginnings of this project here. In searching for ideas for this project I have run across a some other artists who have made Rolodex art journals also. At Tuscan Rose she calls her project Scrapodex. Her project is from a few years back but if you click on Scrapodex in her category list she has a lot of posts about her project. Collage artist Seth Apter called his project Rolodecks. He didn't have a Rolodex so he used a small box as his holder. Kristin Peterson at Altered States Studio often uses Rolodex cards to get her creative juices flowing. My sister has created a few more cards for her project of positive quotes: One of the things I am enjoying about this project (besides the fact that it includes vintage office supplies) is that it's quick. My cards are 3 x 5. Once I built up a little stash of covered cards it was very easy to fit a little art in after a busy day and complete a full card in a short amount of time. I'm going to fill the "A" section with a card a day for Advent. 30 Day Blogging Challenge day 12.

One of my New Years goals was to keep a journal, I wanted to write down my thoughts and remember what I did that day, fun things I saw or memories that should be written down to look back on but I wanted it to be fun too. But at the end of the day the last thing I wanted to be doing was sitting up forcing myself to write about my day, so I did some research. A couple neat things came to mind. One was a smash journal. You start with a journal and "smash"; clip out, write up, pictures, receipts, tid bits of things, into this journal page by page. They have super neat accessories including neat stamps, sticky notes, tape etc. for these types of things but I realized I don't read magazines to clip stuff out of and it was more of an idea book. So I continued researching..Now I have to insert here that I used to be the most impulsive person ever! If I decided to do something I just did it! Well..now I'm married to the least impulsive person I know..he doesn't walk towards anything..he crawls..but he usually makes the right decision. And here I am now..a researcher of things. I stumbled upon Design Sponge and their Vintage Postcard Calendar Journal and decided this was for me..so here is my take on this cute idea! To make this cute lil bugger all you need is a basket, 180 4x6 lined notecards, vintage postcards or scrapbook paper of your choice, a date stamp, a paper cutter (scissors) and time.. First cut your 4x6 cards in half, I cut more than I needed to leave room for mistakes. Stamp the month and date on each card. Trim your postcards to the same width as your notecards and a little longer. I wasn't able to find postcards I liked but had vintage scrapbook paper that looked sweet so I used that instead! Once your done get to jotting down those memories! The great thing about this journal is that you will get to see what you did on that day each year! This would be a fun gift for a newly married couple, new parents or pretty much anyone! Until next time from my kitchen table..!
This is a fun way to culture your broccoli. If you like broccoli salad made with raisins and carrots, you will love this. Just take it out of the jar and mix it with some of my Kombucha Mayo (recipe in my book Cultured Food in a Jar). You can also just use it as a topping for your salad. Add a head of fresh lettuce to a bowl, scoop out these veggies, and serve with your favorite dressing.
London, England, 1792 and disgraced former adviser to King George III, Thomas Stewart, is on the run. Knowing he has only hours before the authorities catch up with him, he unlocks the door to his secret workshop and attempts to complete the Great Experiment. The dream: to create the 'Philosopher's Stone', an alchemical device so powerful it can transmute base elements into pure gold... The hypothosis: that the right combination of light, focused through a crystal sphere, onto a receptive mineral specimen would yield untold power and riches. The problem: someone had been talking, and the authorities wanted the power for themselves. The solution: flight, hopefully taking the finished Stone with him, but had The Experiment worked? Would he be able to get away? Where would he go? ................................................. Composing this shot was almost as hard as making a Philosopher's Stone!! An awful lot of work has gone into preparing the little potion bottles, and into getting the lighting and composition right. I've been planning this, on and off, for a few months — I have some ideas around related subjects...#narrative #stilllife #still_life #leatherbound #antiquarian #crystalball #alchemy #alchemist #fiftyshadesoforange #orangewednesday #oxfordshire #uk #most_deserving #photowall #all_shots #uk_photooftheday #icatching #bd #markmakingdesign #philosophersstone #sorcerersstone

Good bacteria loves oats, and it's one of it's favorite foods. Oats are prebiotics. They contain large amounts of beta-glucan fiber, as well as some resistant starch. Beta-glucan from oats has been linked to healthy gut bacteria, lower LDL cholesterol, better blood sugar control, and reduced cancer risk. When making non-dairy kefir, you just need to be sure the non-dairy milk has at least 8 grams of carbohydrates to give the bacteria something to eat. It uses the sugars and creates probiotics for you. You don’t get the sugar but instead, you get lots of healthy bacteria. If it doesn’t have 8 grams of carbohydrates, then you can add 1 teaspoon of Prebio Plus or you can also use date paste or raw sugar per quart to give the bacteria food so it can make probiotics.
I finally finished to write in my third moleskine journal. I wrote, drew and glued a lot of thing on its pages and, new thing to me, on the cover, too. I adorned it with a sticker with my initial (given to me by a lovely little girl), a dottet tape (part of the packaging of the Xmas present by Alice) and a tiny scrap of fabric I really like. Uh, yes, and I added a dragonfly (one of my favourite animals) to the bookmark. This moleskine journal stayed with me from March 2011 to April 2012. I used it a lot not only to write about my days, bu also to test my handmade stamps (those with the shape of a postage stamp, Dala Horses and others) and the draw (here my favourite page, but I really like also the portait of Erasmo the crocodile). So I finished it and it's the time to use The Little Prince Moleskine I bought last Year in may. So beautiful, so new and... so big! I decided to go a bit over my habits and my taste for small things to try to write (and draw and glue) on a bigger surface. I wanted to evolve my style and learn something new. So I abandoned my usual pocket size for the regular size. And I like!!! :) Another new thing to me is that this journal hasn't my beloved squared, but it's plain. My journaling is becoming more visual day after day, and the lines started to bother me. I've already written 4 pages, tested a new stamp (a post is coming), glued the paper of my new organic soap and the paper of a Yogi Tea filter with the quote "To know others is smart. To know yourself is wise". Do you agree? :)

Cities across Southern California have allowed mosques to broadcast the call to prayer publicly. But in Culver City, the adhan did not go unchallenged for long.
Lately I've been experimenting with watercolors. It's been a fun process with lots of mixed results! I've been cutting down my watercolors to make cards that fit in my library drawer. Each day I pull a card and write an inspiration or affirmation to a card. I found that Mykonos compliments the vivid colors that i've been drawn to paint with and have been the papers to add something fun to each card as I go. Can you spot the hysterical mustache made from Mykonos papers? project done by Mou S.
