Rochelle Keim has lived in Pinecraft for almost twenty years among her Mennonite brethren and Amish of Sarasota. She's quiet, content, and keenly adept at keeping her past firmly tucked away. Feeling unsettled as she nears her fortieth birthday, she decides to return to nursing school, a dream she gave up long ago during a painful time she dares not remember. Her past clangs with her present when Silas Fry, Rochelle's former love, moves to Pinecraft. Silas spent the past two decades working as a missionary pilot, but that all changed with the sudden loss of his wife, Belinda, Rochelle's childhood best friend. Now Rochelle and Silas are on a collision course with their past, and the reunited couple must decide if they're trying to resurrect a dead romance, or if the two very different people whose paths have crosssed can make a new life together.

It's not exactly what you'd expect to find alongside a coastal community in southwest Florida. Situated between Sarasota's white sand beaches and I-75 is the small "Plain" community of Pinecraft. Also referred to as the "Amish Las Vegas," it's where members of the Amish and Mennonite communities go to let loose.TODAY's Sara Haines, producer Durrell Dawson and myself traveled there to visit with th

Time to say "Good-bye". The Elite from Lancaster is making it's last run up north for this season. They were loading right behind the Tourist Mennonite Church this morning. While the CrossRoads from Indiana was loading in the backside of the parking lot. They left with a loaded bus with many of my Indiana friends that I learned to know over the last couple of years. This little girl came down with her Mom and had an enjoyable time but she was more than ready this morning to get on the bus and head home to her Daddy. Ervin Mullet and Katie Graber said their good-byes. Then this afternoon the Pioneer Trails also left packed to the brim. I just had to capture this little straw hat. And it is time for a stretch... It took all the pushing these men had to get everything into the luggage compartments. People are leaving by the droves but I guess they came down here in droves too. If it wouldn't be for Spring Break in northern Indiana Pinecraft would be almost deserted, but the CrossRoads is going to make another run down here, picking up parents and children after work on Friday and arriving here on Saturday. So next week will be a week of children... and I am glad for people are leaving almost too fast.

This afternoon after making my run to the bank and Yoder's Fresh Produce, I met up with Treva Hershberger and son. I immediately noticed the bike cart for it had a different look. Junior, Treva's husband came up with this covering to protect their son from the heat, the cold and the rain. The covering is not finished as he still wants to put netting in the front and back and cut little windows in the sides. I'd say he is a blessed baby.
Today I was in my glory in picture taking. It was Sunday afternoon and there was a Song Fest at the park. And the people were almost all dressed in their Sunday best. So I helped myself to photo taking. (Click on photos to enlarge) Top picture is setting up the system and reserving a by hanging your vest on the chair. Three Sisters Family walking into the park, Sam & Lydia Troyer and their oldest son and his wife from Dover DE. And finding your seats. This boy is from Indiana. He struck up a conversation with me, asking about my parents and where I am from. He is a polite young man. This spot is a favorite lean to... And the swings were in full use most of the day. Visiting Walking and wandering around. "Really! You don't say?" "What do you think now?" (I am trying to imagine the flow of the conversation.) Mervin Ebersol and his wife. Young couple with (I assume) their first baby. Time for a nap. Visiting Young couple with two daughters. I tried to get a shot of the baby in the Daddy's arms. Husband and wife. When the people prayed after the song fest, hats went off. Visiting An Amish man questioning/visiting the camera guys. These two, Ken and Dave are not from Hot Snakes doing another "Breaking Amish" or "Amish Mafia". They just want the bright side of Pinecraft, the best of Pinecraft. It appears these boys were playing "Follow the Leader".
