Sensory bins are still all the rage in our house! Since we homeschool for preschool, we pick a theme each week and my son and I have so much fun learning all about our weekly theme. This past week was all about watermelon! Each day I put together a different sensory bin so we could learn about letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. This week, I threw together some watermelon sensory rice to use as our sensory bin filler. The best part is, all you do is mix it together in a zip-top bag and then lay out to dry. Easy peasy!

One very simple yet effective ways of organizing your guided reading area could be color coding. Color coding can help you to keep materials together so when the classroom lessons start to get busy and students are moving around with your materials, you can put them back in seconds. Below you will see my material storage area. This area holds the materials for guided reading for the week. Each group is assigned a color. I keep the small games, cards, etc., in pencil pouches. The book bins came from Target and the pencil pouches came from Big Lots. Sometimes when my guided reading lesson is over I want the group to continue so I send them out with the pencil pouch. When they are done I simply match colors together and throw them back in the bin. No need to think through which group belongs to which materials.
