Work on CLUSTER REDUCTION of S-blends (omission of the /s/) through these play-based Boom Cards™ that your little learners will love to use while increasing awareness and production of s-blends. These cards will keep your planning to a minimum and student engagement to a maximum! There is tons to do and interact with on each card that will elicit speech AND language skills. Although these were designed for cluster reduction of s-blends, they are GREAT for mixed groups! TIP: When you have mouse control, it requires your students to have to produce the target words while telling you what to do! You will get many natural productions during gameplay! What do I get? 1 card with directions for general play 2 cards with outlines of movable pieces / suggestions for use 10 themed scenes are designed to elicit 4-5 target words and get tons of opportunities for repetitions during play. 5 scenes come with minimal pair cards, 5 scenes do not. 1 bonus scene to work on complex clusters See all target words below. Blends: /st/, /sk/, /sm/, /sn/, /sw/, /sl/, /sp/, /str/, /spr/, /skw/ Check out my Instagram Highlights for a video walk-through. The video was recorded before the update (i.e., bonus scene, direction card, guidance cards). Themes/targets: School: school, smock, snip, snack (with minimal pairs) Park: skip, swing, slide, score (with minimal pairs) I spy: spy, snail, scoop, stall (with minimal pairs) Ice Skating Rink: skate, spin, stop, start, slow (with minimal pairs) Snow Day: snow, sled, slow, stew (with minimal pairs) Store: store, smash, scale, spend, swipe Space: space, star, spaceman, spaceship Smoothie Shop: smoothie, spill, straw, strawberry Snowman Party: snowman, scarf, spot, snowflake, sky Spooky House: spooky, spiders, stir, sneaking, scared *There are also bonus words with s-blends that can easily be incorporated into the scene for practice. NOW with a customer-requested Bonus Scene! Restaurant with Complex Clusters: slider, squirt, slice, sprinkle, straw These scenes are set up so that you can really create your own "storylines" or acts of play. There are lots of objects to interact with. You can make the activities as student-directed or clinician-directed as you see fit. I recommend using the script on the bottom of each slide to guide your play as you get to know the deck. It will direct you to the movable items and places you can get lots of repetitions. TIP: I like to make the tasks silly and repetitive so there are tons of target repetitions. For example, in the grocery store scene, my students love saying, "Don't SMASH the bread!!!" If I have mouse control, I add foods to the cart and put them on top of the bread, then dramatically cover my mouth and say, "OH NOOO! WHAT HAPPENED?" To which my kids respond, "You SMASHED the bread!" Who knew smashing the bread could be so funny?! :) Where can I use this activity? Use it in person or in teletherapy! I have used these cards in both formats. Just remember, you must have a Boom Learning℠ account to access the deck! Create one for free by clicking here. Need more of a sneak peek? Check out the video preview above or click this link to see the first 4 cards in action on the Boom Learning℠ platform.
