These days I don't mind a bit of a hike if there's a beautiful view to reward my efforts. The problem with the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye is it's deceptive scale. With such a bizarre landscape you really have no idea how far away things really are. Sure, there are sheep everywhere and you can see the trails in the distance, but it's like a Scottish mirage. You see your destination but never seem to get any closer. It could also be that time moves slower on the Quiraing. Perhaps this enchanted land refused to adhere to the laws of on the Universe. Perhaps it's possible to step into an entirely different era if you wander off the trail? Many hikers have become lost and disoriented the Quiraing. That would definitely explain why it felt like the longest, steepest hike in history to reach 'The Needle' shown here during a wonderful sunrise shoot in October. Thanks for looking Gavin Hardcastle
