The a, e, i, o, u Chart: Sounds that Vowels Make It's almost back to school time in the Southern Hemisphere. We're helping out with a dollar deal offer on select resources for two days. Search my store for the hashtag in the title of this resource. Spelling new words is easy with this chart! This one page, printable file aims to help students when they are writing new words. ***** This one page file can also be found in The a, e, i, o, u Posters - Sounds that Vowels Make Helpers ***** This poster will give children the opportunity to spell words by hearing the sound and matching it to the chart to spell it. Sometimes children can here the sound but don't know or can't recall the correct letter combinations. It can be confusing for young children learning to spell because often phonemes sound the same but have different letter combinations like oe in toe and ow in bow. Conversely, some have the same letter combinations but have different sounds like ea in leaf and ea in steak. Children can use this one page file (color and black and white) as a desk mate, a help page in their writing books, a display in your writing center or word work center. You may even like to send it home for parents to help children with their spelling and nightly reading. Keep a copy in your program as a ready reference! ************ PLEASE NOTE: This file IS NOT a collection of vowel teams, r controlled vowels or short and long vowels. I have included vowel teams that make long and short vowel sounds, but haven’t included the irregular, non-vowel sounds. The chart conveys vowel sounds under their matching headings. I have included less common long u sounds that represent the final phoneme unit that makes an oo sound after the y or u phoneme. These include: ui, ue, oo, ew and ou. This chart aims to help children spell new words. Children can use the chart when they hear the oo sounds (which are heard as a long u sound at the end of articulation) and find what they think is the correct spelling. ************* Please cite the images before purchasing to see if the sounds and their letter combinations match your particular dialect and program. ************** Back to Clever Classroom's home page - Clever Classroom.
