Looking for a 2nd grade ELA interactive notebook? The simplified layouts of these second grade language arts interactive notebook pages make them easy-to-use! Each interactive notebook activity is a single printable page. Plus, simple shapes with only a handful of pieces per activity mean fewer lost pieces and just 15-20 minutes needed to complete each page! One printable interactive notebook page for each of the following skills is included: Nouns Verbs Complete Sentences Proper Nouns Singular and Plural Nouns Irregular Plural Nouns Singular Possessive Nouns Plural Possessive Nouns Declarative Sentences Imperative Sentences Interrogative Sentences Exclamatory Sentences Adjectives Compound Words Antonyms Synonyms Shades of Meaning Verb Tenses Irregular Past Tense Verbs Abbreviations Contractions Homophones Multiple Meaning Words Compound Sentences Collective Nouns Fact and Opinion Cause and Effect Pronouns Possessive Pronouns Reflexive Pronouns Adverbs A complete table of contents with the ELA skill, standard covered, and page number you can find it on is included within the first few pages of the resource. How can I use interactive notebooks in my second grade classroom? There are many ways to use interactive notebooks to support learning. In my own classroom, I introduce an ELA skill at the beginning of the week. We then discuss it together as a whole class and create an anchor chart with definitions and examples. Students then complete the interactive notebook page as an independent literacy center. I check over this work and meet with students who have demonstrated misconceptions or made errors. Another option is to complete the pages together when the skill is first introduced. Either way, students’ notebooks become a great reference tool they take ownership of and go back to throughout the year. Whenever we are reviewing a skill in my classroom, you are sure to see notebooks out on desks or center tables. As an added bonus, regular cutting and pasting strengthen fine motor skills! Please note that these pages are intended for use in a standard size single subject notebook (8 1/2 x 11 sized pages). Most will be a bit too large to fit in a composition-size notebook without adjustments to your printer settings. We have been brushing up on our quotation skills the last couple of weeks. It is such a hard skill for students to grasp in first grade, but once they reach second grade it's like something "clicks" and they can pick it up quickly. (So don't stress yourselves out first grade teachers!) Here is our quotation mark anchor chart... we used quotes from our Magic Tree House read aloud that we have been reading. During stations, we used play-dough to create quotation marks on our sentence cards. Then we recorded the sentences correctly on the recording sheet. I always include these with my stations so I can check for understanding when I am not able to roam the room while students are working. Later in the week, students roamed the room to rewrite sentences correctly including the quotation marks. You can also use this activity for scoot or stations. We also added quotation marks into sentences, rewrote sentences with quotation marks, and created our own sentences with quotation marks. You can grab up the activities in this packet by clicking the image below... Here is a quotation mark freebie to get you started! Click on the image below to download.

Well, did you survive?! I gotta tell you I am so glad it's Friday!! This has been one busy week and this lady needs a break! Here are a few pics (well quite a few pics) of our activities from this week. Halloween Morning Graphing M&M's I got this cute freebie from Jennifer over at Rowdy In First Grade. Graphing Our Costumes We had a "Warrior" category and changed it to "Action" Made some contraction spiders and ended Halloween day with lots of sugary treats. Today is Day of The Dead so we spent the day learning all about it. Day of the Dead El Dia de Los Muertos (Rookie Read-About Holidays) I also used this great unit from Rachel Lamb Our art teacher came in and taught my kids how to draw sugar skulls. She had a Draw Along and it was so fun and easy. She is a wonderful artist! She discussed symmetry and talked about giving their artwork depth. The kids did a wonderful job! I loved her lesson and I made my own too. Now do you see why I am exhausted? But wait! I am killing two birds with one stone before I crash out. This is a pretty Yummy pin of mine :) Sweet Dreams
Woah! The last few weeks have been crazy! I am very excited to be back to blogging because I've got some goodies to share and because it is so much easier to do on my fancy new laptop! (May my old one rest in peace:). A few weeks ago, I feared that with the loss of my laptop, I may have also lost my Frog and Toad unit that I'd been working so hard on for our Arnold Lobel week. Luckily, I was able to scrape together some bits and pieces of my unit to do with my kiddos before our Spring Break, and even more luckily, my unit was recovered along with several other important files from my old computer!! Yay! Anyways, we had a lot of fun reading all of Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad stories, and my kids did really well with all of the activities. I am so proud of the wonderful readers and thinkers they have become! It is hard to believe that it is the end of March already! Here are a couple of pics of our favorite activities. The first is of our Snip, Flip, and Fold 3-D Graphic Organizer. I let the kids choose any Frog and Toad story (of course, most picked The Kite, which is in our Treasures Basal), and they simply had to write and draw to tell what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. They liked this activity because of the flippy aspect of the pages, and I liked it because it turned out way better than when I used to have students fold and cut the pages on their own. Amen for dotted cutting lines and handwriting lines! If you'd like to try this Snip, Flip, and Fold activity with your class, it can easily be used with any book that has a beginning, middle, and end format...You are welcome to download it for FREE from my TPT store. Just click here and then click, Download Preview. This next picture is of my personal favorite Pinterest-inspired activity! I think they turned out sooo cute! I let the students pick their favorite character to describe using at least one adjective. They wrote things like, "Frog is excited to play outside with Toad" and "Toad is forgetful because he lost his button." Haha! Okay, now the good stuff! I am so excited to have reached 100 followers--101 to be exact! I appreciate all of your kind words and the fact that you take the time to read my sometimes long, rambling posts! In honor of this milestone, I will randomly select THREE lucky followers to win any one item from My Teachers Pay Teachers Store. You will get to choose from my new Fun with Frog and Toad Unit (which includes the patterns to make the cuties above and other goodies!), My Green Eggs and Contractions Unit, Writing Using Thinking Maps: A Year of Circle Maps and Tree Maps, and more! Thanks for reading and good luck! The giveaway will end Friday, March 30th at 9:00pm.
