Having a surplus of Apple, Burgundy, and Plum fabric, it was time to make something! I had stitched up this top years ago. I've been envisioning a basic fitted dress to coordinate with it. Plum was a lovely fit. I used the Alabama Chanin fitted dress pattern, raised the neckline a little, and shortened the shoulder straps. My first garment using the feather stitch on the binding. Why did I wait so long? It's fairly quick and oh so beautiful! Next up, a cropped wrap top using wet-paint stenciled fabric I had made years ago. You can read more about wet-paint stenciling here. I only had a few precious scraps of this fabric left, so the cropped wrap was the perfect project. And the back: My last basic (for now) is a pair of Alabama Chanin shorts. I sized down to XS, left off the drawstring casing, and added foldover elastic. These are very comfortable and lightweight, perfect for summertime lounging, hiking, and gardening. I had about one-half yard of parchment Alabama Chanin 100% organic cotton jersey fabric, just the right amount for these longish shorts that hit just above the knee. I'm going to scrounge around through my scraps and see if I have enough to make a couple more for the summer. I also just cut and stenciled a pair of black on black shorts! I'm excited to see how they turn out. What is your favorite thing to make with leftover fabric?

I have had my daughter at home for a few days so have been indulging in a bit of appliqué as we all sit round the kitchen table listening to the new Nick Cave and David Bowie CDs and keep out of the cold. These two are on especially nice bits of old quilt and I am reluctantly selling them on etsy as I need some funds to move into a slightly larger studio. I am sorry about the quality of the photos, my camera is playing up.

Często na Wielkanoc udawało się nam zrobić kilkanaście pisanek. Ja jednak z domu nie wyniosłam tej tradycji, gdyż moja Mama barwiła jajka na różne kolory, przy użyciu barwników naturalnych. Pierwsza sztukę robienia pisanek posiadła moją córka Iwona, która ma złote i manualnie utalentowane ręce. Te pisaneczki na zdjęciach obok, to właśnie jej ...robota. A te niżej, to już moje, pierwsze nieudolne próby...naśladowania Iwony... Ale ... Lucyna...jest uparta., jak przystało ... na jej znak zodiaku. Mówi się, że to koziorożce są tak uparte..., że z uporem, właściwym tylko im, uparcie podążają do celu. I coś w tym chyba jest, bo od dawna już myślę o udoskonaleniu domowych pisanek o nowe wzory i nowe pomysły. Myślałam , myślałam i... w końcu, w tym roku znów poeksperymentujemy przy pisankach w nowej, kolorystycznej odsłonie. Nie będziemy już barwiły jajeczek na różne kolory, przy użyciu barwników ogólnie dostępnych w supermarketach. Tak zabarwione jajka są pokolorowane także w środku i nie nadają się do spożycia. A mając na uwadze fakt, ze pisankami obdarowujemy naszych bliskich, w tym przede wszystkim dzieci, warto zadbać, by nadawały się one potem do spożycia. Uzbrojone w taki arsenał dostępnych wzorów, po wejściu w posiadanie kolorowych świec, z całą pewnością będą udane. Przypomniało mi się. ze gdzie mam zapisane, w jaki sposób wybielać jajka,. Ale o tym, potem.... A teraz jedynie o pisankach wykonanych na niebarwionych na kolorowo skorupkach jajek. A takie pisanki wyświetlone są na dalszych zdjęciach.
A couple of years ago I went on quite the pillow making spree. You can see all the details here. Looking through my stash recently, I was delighted to find an extra piece of stenciled fabric just waiting to be sewn into another throw pillow. I had given all my pretty pillows away as gifts, and didn't have any for myself, so this one I would keep for our new place. Since I had plenty of embroidery floss, I decided to outline the Magdalena pattern with the chain stitch. Instead of the usual reverse applique, I added French knots in a few of the spaces for textural accents. This is the pillow before the French knots. and after..... I cut a double layer of plain fabric into two rectangles and attached them onto the back of the embellished panel, then added a couple of ties and loops to finish off the pillow. I used Alabama Chanin 100% organic jersey cotton fabric in Natural; Magdalena stencil; sand paint; and ecru embroidery floss. I used Coats and Clark button craft thread in Dogwood to construct the pillow. I'm happy to have just the right pillow for my cozy corner.
