Crochet is a creative, and even slightly meditative process. However, it is difficult to imagine how such things can be applied in a modern interior.

Hey Everyone! Crochet mug rugs have been a staple decor item in my home from the moment I found out that they existed. They are so functional and easy to make, as in you could literally make an entire set in under 2 hours! The Darcie Mug Rug might actually be my favorite mug rug pattern that I’ve designed so far. I’ve been loving the ridge texture that the half double crochet creates when you crochet into the 3rd loop of the stitch. It’s such a unique texture because its raised off of the project, which makes it so satisfying. The single crochet puff stitch also has that satisfyingly rich and raised textured that takes little effort to create. Which pleases my lazy girl heart ever so much. Both stitches together = Magic. I hope you all love the design as much as I loved creating it. Happy Crocheting! This post contains affiliate links that support the content on LoveandStitchDesign.com. Pin it for Later! Interested in the pattern and want to save it for later? You’re welcome to save it by using my Pinterest pin by clicking here or the image below! You can purchase an inexpensive Printable PDF on Etsy here! The PDF includes the complete step-by-step pattern so you can follow along on paper, highlighting and making notes as needed. It is a total of 6 pages including the front and back cover pages. Materials *5.00 mm Crochet Hook *Weight 4 Cotton Yarn *Yarn Needle *Scissors Yarn Choice For all of my mug rug patterns I use cotton yarn. Using cotton yarn makes the mug rug super functional because it tends to soak up moisture better than an acrylic yarn. Cotton yarn also gives beautiful definition to the mug rugs and enhances the texture and details. I’m really not a brand snob when it comes to cotton yarn. I usually use Lily Sugar n’ Cream 100% Cotton, but any cotton yarn would work just fine. If you would like to use the yarn I used click here! *KNITCRATE: Get 1 free crate (you pay shipping) and 1 item in the shop for 20% off when you use my code LOVEANDSTITCH at checkout at knitcrate.com. Stitch Key (US Terms) Ch = Chain St/sts = Stitch(es) Sc = Single Crochet Hdc = Half Double Crochet Single Crochet Puff Stitch: Insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, YO, insert hook into same stitch, pull up a loop, YO, pull through all 4 loops on your hook Working in the 3rd loop: Please refer to the attached video here! Special Notes -The mug rug is worked in rows. -The ch 1 does not count as the 1st st. -Stitch counts are located at the end if the rows instruction in parentheses. Finished Dimensions: 4 1/2 inches wide x 4 inches tall (not including fringe) Gauge: Not necessary for this pattern. Pattern Ch 16 Row 1: sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (15) For a cleaner edge, sc in the back hump of each foundation ch. Row 2: sc in the 1st st, sc puff st in each st across until 1 st remains, sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. (15) Row 3: hdc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (15) Row 4: sc in the 3rd loop of each hdc st from the previous row. Ch 1, turn. (15) Row 5: sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (15) Row 6 – Row 13: Repeat Rows 2 – 5 two times. Ch 1, turn. (15) Row 14: sc in the 1st st, sc puff st in each st across until 1 st remains, sc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. (15) Row 15: sc in each st across. Fasten off and weave in your ends. Attaching the Fringe To create the fringe, cut 6 inch pieces of yarn in the color used for the mug rug. You will need 3 strands of yarn to complete 1 fringe. To attach the fringe, take 3 strands of yarn. Use your crochet hook and push the hook through the far left foundation ch or sc st on either side of the mug rug. Fold the 3 strands of yarn in half and loop the middle of the strands onto the crochet hook and pull the loop of strands through the st about 2 inches. Fold the ends of the strands through the loop. Tighten to create the fringe. Repeat for every other foundation chain (or single crochet) on both sides of the mug rug. To finish off the mug rug, trim the fringe so it measures roughly an inch to an inch and a half (depending on your preference of length). ENJOY! Can’t get enough of mug rugs? Earlier in the week I shared with you my tutorial for the Crunch Stitch, and today I have a fun and re-usable pattern to go with it! I love to use my sweeper mop because of how easy it is. When I ran out of the disposable cloths that came with it I didn't want to buy more. I wanted to make something I could re-use. I googled for patterns and didn't find what I had pictured in my head to use. There are so many great patterns out there, but my favorite stitch for washing and scrubbing is the crunch stitch. So I decided to make my own. The texture in the crunch stitch is why I love it for cleaning and the look of the uniformed stitches is an extra bonus. There are few stitches involved making it a great project to whip up quickly while watching your favorite show. Because they make up fast and affordably they make great gifts and inventory for a craft fair! Below I have used 24/7 Cotton by Lion Brand, but I have also used I Love This Cotton by Hobby Lobby for them in the past. They both have a great color selection, the yarn doesn't fade as much or as quickly as others I've tried, and it's nice and soft to work with. I used one skein to make one mop cover and still had 1/4 of the skein left over! When completed, these mop covers measure 10 inches long and 5 inches wide. To add a little extra flair I wrapped mine in these fun printable labels from The Knotty Boss! They make it perfect for giving as a gift or displaying in your shop/craft fair! Pattern PIN to save for later! Or grab the ad-free printable PDF in my Etsy or Ravelry shop! You may make and sell items made from this pattern but please do not sell, share or reproduce the actual pattern. If you sell finished items online (Etsy, etc) please provide a link to the pattern and credit to me as the designer, thank you. I hope you enjoy this pattern! This post contains affiliate links, please click here for more info. Thank you for supporting Grace and Yarn! Materials - - 130 yards of worsted cotton yarn - 4mm crochet hook - Scissors - Tapestry needle to sew/weave in ends - Stitch markers (optional, they can come in handy to keep rows even) US Abbreviations - Ch - Chain HDC - Half double crochet Sl st - Slip stitch SC - Single crochet Gauge - 22 rows should be a 5" x 5" square, adjust your hook size accordingly if your sample swatch is a different size (Example: Try going up a hook size if your swatch is smaller; Go down a hook size if your swatch is bigger.) Mop Cover- Chain 25 Row 1: *HDC in the 2nd ch from your hook, sl st in the next*, *repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn (24 stitches) NOTE- Each row will always start with an HDC and end with a slip stitch. It can be handy to put a stitch marker in the last stitch of each row, this way when you reach the end you will easily see where your last stitch will go. Row 2: *HDC in the first stitch, sl st in the next*, *repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn (24 stitches) Rows 3-76: Repeat row 2 Your work should measure 16 inches long by 5 inches wide. Do not fasten off, continue with border below. Border- SC around each of the four sides of your work, completing 2 SC in each corner. Assembly - Fold each side in 3 inches and sew the edges together to create a pocket. I sewed down through the stitches and back up the next to give it a nice layered look. Weave in your ends. Your mop cover is complete! My favorite way to use mine is to spray a small amount of my favorite cleaner onto the floor in front of me and then mop right over! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern. Feel free to tag me on Instagram, I'd love to see your mop covers!

I love little crochet projects. The crochet washcloth patterns are one of the best things to try out when you are first starting to crochet. They are smaller in size....and square. You can practice keeping your edges straight (mine don't always turn out that way!), a few new crochet stitches and you can play with a few fun yarns.
