Offered is a vintage Zeuthen Keramik butter bowl made at the workshop in Denmark, and marked on the bottom in blue The plate measures 6.325" in diameter, 2.5" in height overall, and the butter bowl measures 3.5" in diameter, 1.5" in height. Founded originally by Normann Zeuthen in 1946 in Gentofte, Denmark, the pottery workshop employed around 10 to 15 people at its peak, including some of the known ceramists Ady Kroyer, Birte Vedel Howard, who both went on to have successful careers, as well as Edith Nielsen, the primary designer of the distinctive style of matte red clay decorated with motifs of flowers, stars, dots, etc. in white raised glaze or slip-trailed glaze. Note: This butter dish does not have a lid, and the butter knife is just a prop, not included. less
These are a lovely plate or dish by Zeuthen Keramik, Denmark circa 1950s - 60s. A wonderful design by this small pottery, Nordisk Brugskunst ( Nordic Applied Art) was founded around 1946 by Normann Zeuthen who introduced the name "Zeuthen Keramik" in 1948. Edith Nielsen was their primary designer, responsible for their trademark style of hand applied partial glaze decoration of dots, stripes, clover leaves, small flowers or stars. The shallow dish or plate has the distinctive terracotta clay base, with a random applied pattern of white globular dots and shapes. Very minimal and so reminiscent of the Danish Modern designs of the midcentury era. Perfect to add to a group or collection of Zeuthen, Scandinavian, European pottery. Would complement any retro, vintage, 1950s, 1960s, Danish Modern, midcentury, minimal or contemporary interior. In excellent condition, a little crazing to the underneath of the plate, nothing to detract. The plate measures 19 x 19 x 2.5cm / 7.5 x 7.5 x 1in.
