Starting with vintage photography and illustrations of models sporting fashions from the 1950s, Amsterdam-based artist Hinke Schreuders applies a rich layer of hand-stitched embroidery, beading, lace, and flourishes of ink to entirely new images that can be both unsettling and exuberant. The pieces seen here are part of an ongoing series called Works on Paper, started in 2008. With her work Schreuders says she seeks to “subtly confuse notions of feminine vulnerability and reinforce the position of embroidery as an artistic medium,” something I think we can all agree she has done masterfully. Sculpting small-scale worlds is all in a day’s work for Korean artist Myung Keun Koh. The Pratt Institute graduate’s oeuvre consists of photographic laminates delicately pieced together in three-dimensional forms - boxes that sometimes convey little buildings, cityscapes and classical nudes that glow with luminescent light from within. Koh prints his images on transparent film and then laminates those images, melting them together to form his sculptures. Viewed from different angles, the printed images on these boxes shimmer fluidly, the result of careful abstract arrangement. With the medium of photography, he captures a single moment — but when the photos are layered into boxes, the moment becomes alive again.

British artist Abigail Reynolds does not take images at face value. Using the art of collage, she enhances the original picture by creating intricate assemblages out of repurposed vintage photographs, magazines, encyclopedias, atlases, and other materials she finds. "The act of folding one image into the other pushes them out into three dimensions in a bulging time ruffle," she says. Often, these feature rural England, architectural landmarks, and obscure landscapes, folded into three-dimensional geometric patterns.

a pencil drawing i did for my gcse art exam (its pretty big irl), took me ten hours- I don't take any credit for the original concept, as it was very much inspired by this , a double exposure photograph by the amazing Dan Mountford. I did, however, use my own photographs (apart from some of the buildings, for which i used images i found on flickr of the manhattan skyline) the buildings got a bit smudged, which is really annoying me PLEASE, PLEASE, respect that this is my exam work, and do not blog/use without my permission I hate the quality of this photo, i may replace it
