I can't believe I never posted this packet! I have been spending the morning adding labels to each of my posts and realized there are quite a few of my worksheets and activities I have never posted on here. I'm going to try going through my workbooks in the next few weeks, and match all my worksheets to my post on here to make sure i'm not missing any important ones. This is a packet I did a few months ago on going to work. I love this packet and it's probably one of my favorites so far. Since I teach work skills only once a week, this packet was perfect. I did at least one page per week (whatever filled our half hour time slot) and the whole packet took us about 2 months to finish. I highly recommend you let it last that long (I seriously have had subs that could do it in an hour). Each page has so many things that can be discussed and even acted out. Get those kids up in the front of the room! They need to see something, hear something, and DO something!! I try to make it a rule that each kid gets up at least once per lesson. Sometimes I do two or three per group. They LOVE to get up and be the center of attention even if it's just for a few seconds. It could be to just ask the others students if Johnny's clothing is appropriate for an interview, or I might ask them a basic interview question. I love asking multiple choice questions to my lower autistic boys who I know will answer whatever the last word is I said. Of course I always make that the correct answer and everyone whoops and hollers when they get it right! Awwwww, it's posts like these that make me miss them more. I hope everyone has a great weekend! Sleep in, relax, and enjoy the rest of your summer!! 25 more days left for me!

In this product you will find 30 task cards that are meant to get students thinking and reflecting on soft skills. Soft skills are personal or "people skills" used to interact with others at work. Employers want their employees to have a combination of soft skills and hard (technical) skills when hiring employees. This activity is meant for whole classroom, small group, or independent use. You can use these cards in whatever way you choose but some ideas include: Cutting out cards and allowing students to work at their own pace throughout the year. Giving to students sporadically as a weekly assignment. Putting cards in stations and having students go through each station and complete the cards of their choice. These are also great for substitute plans! I hope you enjoy this product and feel free to leave feedback! Thanks again! The Career Ready Teacher

Discover the 8 essential soft skills to include on your resume. Enhance your chances of success with these valuable qualities.
One of the goals I have as a teacher, is that students have fun while they are in my classroom. Intervention is a sensitive subject, and when they are with me I want students to feel success--and be excited to be in my small group. When my thirty minute time slot is over, I want kids to leave with a smile on their face and feel enthusiastic about their return the next day. One of the main ways I keep it fun for students is through the use of learning games. I absolutely LOVE using games during instructional time. Students are able to apply taught skills, work on soft skills with peers, and I can monitor progress!. BUT....are all games created equal? There are many things to consider when selecting the right games to use in your classroom. When you are choosing a game to play ask yourself the following questions: Will this game be engaging and motivating? Will this game increase student's skills? What previously taught content is included? Will every student be able to participate? Another important thing to note is that teachers should spend time debriefing once game play is over. We often rush to get kids to clean up the materials and get back to their seats so we can move on to the next subject. BUT....take a few moments and have students reflect. By giving students the following questions to ponder, you are allowing students time to make sense of the learning experience and grow. Was anything difficult for you while you were playing? Was anything easy for you while you were playing? How did this game help you? If you could play this game over, what would you do differently? If you want more advice, take a moment to read "Ways to Use Games Effectively In the Classroom", which was published in EdWeek. The article's author interviewed several seasoned teachers who use game play as apart of their regular instructional routines. Lots of great advice!
