Nebuchadnezzar is a colour monotype print with additions in ink and watercolour portraying the Old Testament Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II by the English poet, painter, and printmaker William Blake. Taken from the Book of Daniel, the legend of Nebuchadnezzar tells of a ruler who through hubris lost his mind and was reduced to animalistic madness[1] and eating "grass as oxen".[2]
William Blake Fine Art Print, Newton, Reductive Symbolism Painting, Pre-Romantic William Blake (28 November 1757 – 12 August 1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. What he called his prophetic works were said by 20th-century critic Northrop Frye to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language". His visual artistry led 21st-century critic Jonathan Jones to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced". In 2002, Blake was placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. While he lived in London his entire life, except for three years spent in Felpham, he produced a diverse and symbolically rich œuvre, which embraced the imagination as "the body of God" or "human existence itself". Although Blake was considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, he is held in high regard by later critics for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work. His paintings and poetry have been characterised as part of the Romantic movement and as "Pre-Romantic". A committed Christian who was hostile to the Church of England (indeed, to almost all forms of organised religion), Blake was influenced by the ideals and ambitions of the French and American Revolutions. Though later he rejected many of these political beliefs, he maintained an amiable relationship with the political activist Thomas Paine; he was also influenced by thinkers such as Emanuel Swedenborg. Despite these known influences, the singularity of Blake's work makes him difficult to classify. The 19th-century scholar William Michael Rossetti characterised him as a "glorious luminary", and "a man not forestalled by predecessors, nor to be classed with contemporaries, nor to be replaced by known or readily surmisable successors". _____________________________________________________________________ Available as a high quality giclee print in lots of sizes _____________________________________________________________________ Also available on heavyweight canvas pre-stretched on a 1.5 inch deep wooden frame, ready to hang, The canvas prints are mirror printed on all 4 edges and do not require an additional frame. _____________________________________________________________________ small prints are shipped in stiffened envelopes larger prints are carefully rolled and shipped in a tube If ordering a combination of print sizes, smaller prints may be rolled with larger prints and shipped together for combined postage discounts. pre-stretched canvas shipped in boxes

Just over a year ago, we featured John Milton's Paradise Lost as illustrated by William Blake, the 18th- and 19th-century English poet, painter, and printmaker who made uncommonly full use of his already rare combination of once-a-generation literary and visual aptitude.
At the end of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, fairy king Oberon and queen Titania make friends again, and Moth, Peaseblossom, Cobweb and Mustardseed dance in a ring, while Puck claps the beat. William Blake’s fairies dance on weightless tiptoes wearing petals, leaves and gauzy dresses. They look human, but are small compared to a tree trunk. The strange, silvery light from the fireflies transforms them into magical beings. Blake’s fairy features and dancing fairy rings helped define how we think of fairies today. All prophecies are fragile. They are subject to contradiction, to falsity. The false prophet, then, one might consider insane. But how does one interpret the language of prophecy? Is it a language of madness, of hidden truth, of images? Such questions are pertinent when discussing the works of visionary poet William Blake. His prophecies or […]

William Blake (1757 – 1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker of astonishing power and originality who has inspired generations of poets, painters and artists of all ages. Seen by the British public of his day as a combination of individualism and creativity his poem “Tyger” and verses to the hymn “Jerusalem” are still revered today. His prints, numerous illuminated books, drawings and paintings continue to appeal to a wide audience. Largely unrecognized during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of both the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. His prophetic poetry has been said to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language". His visual artistry has led one contemporary art critic to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced". The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins—a call to live in anticipation of the final day of reckoning and salvation (from Matthew 25:1–13)—contrasts five maidens who have prepared for the arrival of their bridegrooms by obtaining oil for their lamps with five others who have squandered their opportunity and therefore miss their marriage feasts. This elegant watercolor, composed within a single plane resembling a classical low-relief sculpture, is the earliest of four versions of the subject to be painted by Blake. Original Medium: Pen, black ink and watercolors on paper. Reproduction: Textured, Fine Art Paper, pigment inks Image Size: 13 x 11.75 inches printed on larger paper to allow ample borders for matting and framing. Prints ship in a heavy protective cardboard tube. **the giclee process produces a high quality, fine art reproduction from a high-resolution digital file of an image. The file is then printed with a high-resolution photo generation printer on a fine art paper. Most artists and working photographers today use the giclee process to produce reproductions of their original artwork and photographs. As with any original art or fine art reproduction, it is recommended that prints are framed and displayed under glass to prevent color fade or shift over the years.
