For the Jewish community of northern Italy, frisinsal – or Pharaoh’s wheel is a very significant dish. Anne Shooter’s version uses leftover roast chicken, too. She serves it in a round dish to symbolise the wheels of Pharaoh’s chariots.

Photographer Johnny Joo explores abandoned structures overtaken by the natural surroundings that had originally been tamed to make space for them. Joo captures ferris wheels, cottages, malls, schools, armories, and thruways as they slip back into obscurity, covered in undergrowth, vines, and trees. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, the 27-year-old photographer has spent the last ten years traversing the country to explore abandoned spaces. In 2012, Joo started a blog, Architectural Afterlife, where he features his work and writes reflections on his explorations and the history of the all-but-forgotten locations. More

Building one's own medicine wheel is one of the best ways to become familiar with the earth - sky relationship. To build an effective medicine wheel, one needs a flat and isolated stretch of ground in which to begin mapping out important transits of the sun, moon and stars over the years. This construction can then serve everyone who knows how to use it thereafter.

Costco is selling a 72-pound cheese wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano. The gigantic Parmesan cheese wheel is $900 and, believe it or not, that’s not a bad deal. It comes out to $12.50 per pound, which is comparable to smaller portions. The cheese is aged 24 months and is imported from Italy. It’s also described as “extravagant.”

Our Moroccan Planter collection showcases handcrafted pieces from the Tamegroute region in Morocco. Artisan families in Tamegroute have passed down their pottery-making traditions for generations, resulting in a rich cultural legacy. Each planter is individually hand thrown on a manual wheel, adorned with a unique handcrafted green glaze, and baked in a traditional wood fired kiln. With various forms and glaze options, each piece is one-of-a-kind. Limited quantities available. We recommend using one of our Plant Stands, Coasters & Mats to protect against scratches on hardwood surfaces. Origin: Morocco Manufacturing: Hand Thrown Material: EarthenwareCondition: Great. Wear and inconsistencies are unique to the original item. Dimensions: Medium: 3.75" H x 4.75" Dia Large: 5.75" H x 5.50" Dia Dimensions are approximate as these are handmade by artisans. Note: Our Moroccan Planters are designed as cachepots without drainage holes. While they are waterproof, the handmade nature of these planters may result in small hairline cracks, which could potentially cause leaking. To prevent this, we advise using one of our teak plant stands.
Do you ever dream of escaping to a cozy retreat to get some rest, recharge, and—perhaps most importantly—catch up on all the books you’ve been meaning to read? That’s quite literally what the ”Bookworm Cabin” in Poland was built to do. Bartłomiej Kraciuk, an entrepreneur, and Marta Puchalska-Kraciuk, an architect, first came up with the idea for the cabin because they wanted a place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of life.
Honoring the humble shape of the vessel is at the center of Carol Long’s practice. From her studio in rural Kansas, the artist throws simple ceramic cylinders that she contorts into supple butterfly wings, curved chrysalises, or vases with embellished handles.“When it comes off the potter’s wheel, that’s just the beginning,” she tells Colossal. “I usually sit for a second and look at the piece and see which way I can push it out or in.” The resulting forms are evocative of both flora and fauna and traditional pottery, although Long’s sculptures emphasize smooth, sinuous walls and squiggly bases rather than angled edges.
