These beautiful mosaics are ideal for preschoolers to create, & offer lots of opportunities to explore colour, pattern, textures & more. We started by flattening the clay using a rolling pin until we had a smooth even surface. This was great for encouraging gross motor control & offered an opportunity to explore the contrasting textures of the clay. To create a shape for our mosaic we used a selection of cookie cutters. One of the many things I love about this project is that children of all ages (preschoolers & up) can independently create these mosaics. Younger children may enjoy pushing a handful of beads into the clay to create a pattern, whereas older children may prefer to create a specific pattern adding one bead at a time. The magic thing about these little beads is that they'll display their colour whichever way they are inserted into the clay, & will stay in place once the clay is dry as long as they're pushed in far enough. The cookie cutters create simple outlines to follow, but we discovered it was easier for younger children to add the beads to the cookie cutters while still in the clay. This created a clearer shape & made the mosaic stand out. We added a hole to this butterfly mosaic so it could be threaded once it was dry & used as a decoration. Other mosaics were turned into colourful coasters. Adding the bright beads to the grey clay really made their vivid colours stand out which was great for encouraging colour recognition & exploring any repeating patterns. A little more math could also be explored as you find how many red beads, yellow beads etc there are tucked away in the clay. This was such a simple activity but it produced some amazing art. These little monsters just love worries! In fact, the more you give them the happier they are! Designed to help alleviate anxiety & reduce stress in young children, these DIY Worry Monsters offer children a simple way to express & release those negative emotions. If you have a child who is experiencing anxiety whether due to a new situation, a change in a familiar routine, friendship issues, or sleeping difficulties, you'll know the impact that this anxiety can have on their life. Issues which can often seem insignificant to an adult can be momentous to a child & sometimes so overwhelming that they become unable to verbalize or even share those feelings. These Worry Monsters offer a space to let go of those anxieties & hopefully encourage children to feel calmer again. To make each monster we used; a recycled container with a lid one A4 sheet of paper (we used green) coloured sticky dots, 2 small circles of white card, googly eyes, & pens. The neat thing about these worry monsters is that children can create them themselves, making each one unique. They can make their monster look as ugly, or as silly as they wish & let their creative imaginations run wild. To make our mini worry monster we used a moneybox style tin can as the top gave us a neat posting slot. We started by cutting a length of paper to cover the sides of the can, making sure we added a 5cm boarder to the top so we could cut a zig-zag pattern into it to give our monster some spiky hair. With the remaining green paper, we cut out some monster arms to add a little later. There are no specifications really for these monsters, the arms can be any shape or size. Using the sticky tape we attached the paper to the container making sure it was a secure fit. We then attached the arms in the same way, along with the two circular cards & googly eyes. With pens & sticky dots we added a few funny monster features & our monster was ready to collect some worries! These monsters are ideal for a range of age groups, & those who are unable to write their worries independently could draw their feelings on paper. If that's not appropriate then they could always use the paper to express how they're feeling, e.g. scribble on it, scrunch it up, or even rip it up & feed it to the monster. The main thing is that their worry has been released. It's helpful to encourage children to think that when their worry has been posted into the Worry Monster then the worry has been taken away from them, hopefully instilling a sense of peace. It's helpful too to remind them that any number of worries can be added at any time, no matter how big or small they may seem, the Worry Monster is always there to eat up any negative feelings they may wish to share with it. And just like worries, Worry Monsters come in all shapes & sizes! Smaller Worry Monsters can be carried around in a bag if needed or tucked away somewhere safe. We discovered that a Pringles can enabled us to create a big worry monster with plenty of space for lots of paper! Of course, it's up to you whether you read the scraps of paper that the children post into the monster. If you do I would just think about how you handle your response. The Worry Monster offers a safe space where a child can unload & share some things which they might not be able to express verbally with anyone else. So discussing what you've found might not be the best way to help, but respectfully offering support with certain situations if needed might be more positive. I know several children who have made these Worry Monsters & now keep them under their beds just in case they have a nightmare or worry at night. The reassurance these simple monsters can offer has amazed me. I know of one little boy who used to refuse to walk past a certain garden on the way to school because a barking dog was causing him distress. After making one of these monsters his mum told me that he was able to walk to school with less anxiety & stroll past the house with the dog when he had the worry monster in his school bag. He told his mum; "The monster eats all my worries, & they go in his tummy instead of mine." Of course, these Worry Monsters might not work for all children & all situations, but hopefully they'll make a difference to some. Meadow artificial flowers in Welly boots. This gorgeous spray of Garden and meadow flowers looks perfect in the ceramic Green wellies. A absolute stunner of a display ideal for any surface in your home with no need to water, just simply knock off dust lightly with a duster as required. The wellies measure approximately 40cm at its tallest point with the blooms. This is a bold and beautiful show of colour for your home. All of our wreaths and florals are hand made with love in our East Sussex based workshop by Lesley, using the traditional technique of hand wiring. They are then finished where necessary with a durable and hard wearing specialist floristry glue. We seek the finest materials to create our one of a kind designs, no 2 will be the same. Making each one that little bit more special. All wreaths and floral arrangements may experience a small degree of flattening during transit and delivery, they are all packaged with the upmost of care and attention to detail, however a small amount of teasing and primping may be required when first removed from the box to show it at its finest. The wreath is suitable for both indoor and out door use, we do however recommend bringing your wreaths in in extreme weather conditions to prolong the life and beauty of your wreath. Yearly treatment with a UV spray is also recommended to protect the vibrancy or colour.

Create our own Scented Nature Frame with a selection of garden herbs. We love this multi-sensory activity with so many varied scents & textures to discover. It's a perfect mindful activity for all ages to explore Genesis 1:29-30, thanking God for the many plants around us & all they offer. To Make a Nature Frame You'll Need: A couple of fallen sticks (cut to 4 similar lengths) Pipe cleaners or string :: Start by laying out the sticks to make the frame shape on a flat surface :: Secure them together at the corners by tying with string or wrapping a pipe cleaner around (The pipe cleaner is much easier for little hands to manipulate) :: Collect a selection of our favourite herbs (we used what we had in our garden; lavender, thyme, rosemary, curry plant, mint, & a few bay leaves) :: Take a small cutting of one of the herbs & using either string or a pipe cleaner wind it around the stem, & then wind it around the top of the frame to secure. :: Smell the leaves of the herbs as you add each one to the frame. Do all the herbs smell the same? Which one is your favourite? Does the scent change when you rub the leaf with your fingers? :: Explore the textures of the leaves & flowers with your hands. Do the leaves feels soft, smooth, rough? Are they shiny or furry? :: Look at the shape of the leaves. Which are the smallest, largest? Which are the greenest? Are they all the same colour? As you smell & feel each of the herbs, you might like to say this prayer: Creator God, As we feel the leaves - we thank you for plants that feed us. As we smell the leaves - we thank you for plants that heal us. As we look at the leaves - we thank you for plants that help us breathe. Thank you for all the amazing plants you have given us, Help us to take care for them, & plant more for the future. Amen. Hang your Scented Nature Frame somewhere in your home & as the herbs dry their scent will fill the room. Once dry you could store them in a glass jars in your kitchen & add them to your recipes when cooking.

If you're looking for a book to share with kids that encourages kindness, compassion, & gratitude then this is for you. Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud is a beautiful storybook with a wonderful concept that will help children (& adults) understand that simple actions can change the world for the better. I first came across this book a couple of years ago & it's just one of those children's books that stays with you. The story is so simple but also so clever, & the colourful illustrations help younger children understand the concept of the 'bucket'. In the book Carol McCloud beautifully describes how each of us have an invisible bucket that we carry around with us all the time. When we fill our bucket we feel happy, when it's empty we feel sad. But in order to fill our bucket we have to help others fill theirs. But how can we do this? The book is packed with great ideas that are simple enough for any age to try; from saying thank you, smiling at someone, or offering to help someone at home or school. Each suggestion demonstrates compassion, friendship, respect, & gratitude & when these are offered to someone else you're not only filling their bucket, but you're filling yours too! Cleverly the author uses the 'bucket' concept to demonstrate the effects of bullying too; that when you say or do mean things you're emptying someone else's bucket, & when you do this your bucket is empty too. "You cant fill your own bucket by dipping into someone else's." The book continues with more positive suggestions for children, & concludes by looking at the bigger picture, that if we all show appreciation & kindness & fill other buckets then we make our home, school, & neighbourhood a better place to be! It's a great way of showing children how their individual simple actions can make a big impact. After reading the book we thought we'd create a visible bucket to encourage us to think about how we could be bucket fillers every day. To make them we used: Small paper cup A pipe cleaner Coloured beads Sharp pencil Pens Coloured paper We started by making 2 holes on opposite sides of the paper cup by carefully pushing the tip of the pencil through. Then to create the handle we threaded a few beads onto a pipe cleaner, making sure we left plenty of the pipe cleaner free to thread through the cup & twist to secure on either side. Using pens we decorated our bucket & added a face just like the buckets illustrated in the book. We wanted to remember all the great 'bucket filler' suggestions from the book so we cut out some heart shaped memos from coloured paper, & together we wrote down all the ideas along with some of our own. This was a lovely activity to share, & wonderful to hear the variety of ways we could each make a difference. When we'd finished we folded our hearts & added them to our little bucket. We plan to pick a heart from the bucket each day to remind us to be bucket fillers! As the paper hearts are small they're an ideal size to slip into your pocket so you can carry them around with you during the day & perhaps be inspired to do more than one act of kindness to help someone else. So why not make someones day & say "I'm going to do something to fill someone's bucket today!"
