Thanks so much for supporting my efforts with this blog! My bloggy pal Hilary over at Raising Fairies and Knights started a fun new Monthly Crafting Book Club this year - a challenge to create activities to go along with some of the most beloved children's books. We're halfway through the year and so far, have really had some great fun: January - Animal Action Dice Game for the book Barnyard Dance. February - Cause & Effect Box for If You Give a Moose a Muffin. March - an alphabetical scavenger hunt for Dr. Seuss's ABC. April - handwashing fun to go along with The Piggy in the Puddle. May - 5 Little Monkeys Fold 'Em Up for Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. June - pinecone princess & Cozy Sweater Warrior Paper Dolls for The Princess and the Pony. July - lantern craft for Curious George Goes Camping. Now it's August, and we all chose a different back-to-school themed book to focus on. I have quite the stack of great school-themed titles from my classroom, so I pulled them all out and had Gv choose her favorite. She immediately reached for Froggy Goes to School - that silly frog never fails to get her giggling, so I had already suspected it would be a major contender. We started reading the book, but after just a few pages, Gv ran off to grab this one to add to our pile: Froggy's first-day-of-school dream had reminded Gv of all his crazy clothing antics in Froggy Gets Dressed, so we went ahead and worked in a little activity to go along with that title, too. For the book Froggy Goes to School, we decided to make a cute little backpack for Gv's stuffed frog and then fill it full with school supplies. I printed out this freebie onto cardstock, then Gv drew her design and cut out all the pieces. She and I worked together to glue all the pieces on. (The mini-backpack, while the perfect size for our frog, did not fit the paper bags we had. We just glued this smaller backpack together on itself for her frog to wear and then made the larger-sized backpack to go with our paper bag. One of Gv's babies got to wear that one.) Finally, Gv went on a school-supply scavenger hunt around the house to find things to fill this backpack with. After all that crafty fun, we turned to our second Froggy book. I read it to Gv and then asked her to go find all the clothing items he wore during the story. Then, she grabbed a little friend and dressed her all up - remembering to put on the underwear first! {wink} Gv had so much fun with this, she repeated the activity three times throughout the day! Sandwich Swap back to school activities are a great way to begin the school year. This book companion goes perfectly with the book Sandwich Swap and has all the resources and activities you need for a week-long whole-group close read or literacy study with the book. This makes kindergarten and first-grade reading lesson plans a breeze. "Step into Stories" is a focused read-aloud that includes popular books that are utilized in most Kindergarten classrooms today. This weekly unit differs from others because it includes everything you need in one place. This is loosely based on the 5 Finger Retell and will cover the story elements of characters, setting, events, problem and solution, as well as vocabulary, inferencing, and predicting. This includes: Anchor Charts- multiple charts to use throughout the week. There are fun vibrant labels that are easy to cut and add to your chart. These include labels for characters, setting, BME retelling, problem and solution as well as retell cards. Craftivity- This is a fun craft that can be printed on colored construction paper or on white paper for the students to color themselves. There is a writing worksheet that can be added to this craft to make it a writing craft. Retell cards- There is a color set of these to use during whole group instruction as well as a black and white version that the students can color, cut, and paste in order at their desks. A great option for independent practice. These fit perfectly on a LARGE piece of construction paper or a regular piece that is cut in half and stapled together. Worksheets- There are worksheets for each day that goes along with the lesson and a recommendation on how to use them, but they can be used any way you want. I have some differentiated options to meet the needs of all our learners as well a few extra for "fast finishers" in your class. Exit Tickets- This has multiple exit tickets to ensure your students are mastering important concepts. Vocabulary- 5 poster-size vocabulary word cards that go along with the story, differentiated vocabulary worksheets, and exit ticket. 5 Day Lesson Plans- This is just a recommendation of how all these pieces fit together neatly in a lesson plan but they can be used in any way that you see fit. These are also EDITABLE. Daily Scripted Lessons- There are optional daily scripted lessons for those that want more guidance on this read-aloud. These scripts also include which resources go with each day. Assessment - optional comprehension assessment that is Kindergarten-Friendly with pictures and a vocabulary assessment for first grade. How is this different than Volume 1? These are all new stories and they include all the same activities PLUS A little more rigor that is still appropriate for Kinder and a couple of writing options that make this 1st-grade appropriate. Will these be offered in a monthly bundle? While it is entirely possible that I may bundle these in the future, I currently do not have a set list of books or release dates. You can message me if you have future book requests via email or IG. Will these be too hard for kindergarten? These are completely appropriate for K or 1st. I have the same options as volume 1 with a few changes. More differentiated worksheets. The comprehension quiz has 5 questions instead of 4. It still uses pictures. A vocabulary quiz that is meant for 1st only and will be given orally. (There is still a vocab question in the picture K-friendly comprehension assessment version.) This pack is not editable unless there is an error. Please contact me if you find any errors prior to leaving a rating. **Please Note** This is a book companion and does not contain the original mentor text. You will need to purchase the mentor text on your own or check itout from a library.
