Meet The People is a WWII patriotic film, featuring Lucille Ball as a glamorous actress, and Dick Powell as an wartime employee in a shipyard. This picture's taken circa 1943. She looked nowhere near 33 years of age. In fact, she looked like as if she was 25! This is why people say that she can be cast in shows where the character is 10 years younger than her.
I love watching movies from the 40s and 50s, not only for the wonderful clothing, but for the fabulous hairstyles. The golden era of Hollywood was such a magical time when womens hair was always perfectly coiffed, rolled and waved to perfection. The ladies that are my hair inspiration are; Elizabeth Taylor, Betty Grable, Lucille Ball and the infamous Bettie Page. I love vintage hairstyling as it's a way to add some glamour to a special occasion dress, or just to try something new and eye catching. I'm always experimenting with my hair and here are a few tips and tricks I've learned along the way. Please note, I'm not a hair stylist, just a hair enthusiast. Betty Grable's hair is fantastic! Many retro lovely gals tend to love the 1940s Victory Rolls as a hairstyle, and I've often been asked how I achieve this look. The options are endless in terms of variations of Victory Rolls, so once you get the hang of the actual 'roll', let your imagination and vision take hold! For those of you who need a little help, let's see what I can do. *wink* I recommend these type of items to aid in hairstyling: Soft bristle brush-I like to use the soft bristles to smooth the rolls out. Rat tail comb-For teasing when needed. Pomade or a smoothing finishing cream-I steal my hubby's Layrite. Hair spray-I like it strong, like my coffee! Bobby pins-Pick closest your your hair color. I also like to use hot rollers, as I set my hair first before the actual Victory Rolls. This is an option if you want a more Betty Grable look as pictured in the photo above. Victory Rolls are more prominently styled on top of head, with bangs and hair is shoulder length. Victory Rolls are styled more to the side and back, rolled front bang and hair is a layered chin length style. There are a ton of visual video tutorials on YouTube and you can search for Victory Roll how-to's on Google. Here is a basic guide on how I do mine. Make a clean side part with your rat tail comb. Then part sections of hair, in front of your ear (on either side), as this will be the hair you actually roll. Start on the first side and using your fingers create a roll with your fingers as guides. You are rolling the hair up and back towards your scalp. If you need help, you can use a curler or the handle of a round brush. Secure roll with as many bobby pins as needed (try to hide them!) and adjust roll to form a neat 'O' shape. Repeat set 3 for the other side. Finish your rolls by using a small amount of pomade (a little goes a long way so watch out!) and smooth out your rolls with the soft bristle brush. Spray the rolls liberally with hair spray. Voila! You've got Victory Rolls! The back of your hair is up to you. You can curl, use a snood, or leave it straight. I prefer soft waves and set my hair in hot rollers and then softly brush them out for a little more authentic vintage look. But wait, we can't forget the hair decor! Hair accessories are a great way to add some glamour to your outfit, yet it's also a great way to hide those imperfections. When you're a novice at these hair looks, hair flowers, bows and head bands can be a hair saver. Black Diamond Bow Set by Graveside Looks has a nice metal clip that makes for easy placement on the hair. The beautiful rhinestone detail with make those Victory Rolls shine. Peggy Pearl Bobby Pins by Its a Swindle can work double duty as they are not only lovely hair decor, yet they can really aid in holding the rolls into place. Large Orange Flower Hairclip by Zombetty Bows is a wonderful tool to use to hide that one roll that is not cooperating. I often carry an emergency hair flower in my purse as you never know when a hair malfunction may occur! Australia Say G'day to Couture: Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace Spring 2012, Sydney Australia Over the weekend, Lady Gaga stepped down in Sydney from her private plane wearing COUTURE---the only way Miss Lady Gaga would! She is there for the next leg of her "Born This Way Ball" tour. The global pop Diva then headed to the harbor-side Park Hyatt Sydney Hotel, making a grand entrance to her fans, stopping by to greet them, sign autographs and pose for photos. Atelier Versace Spring 2012, Paris Haute Couture Fahsion Week Spring/Summer 2012 She wore a floor length completely hand beaded gown with Swarovski Crystal Elements gold metallic accents from Atelier Versace Spring 2012. In case you didn't know, that's Haute Couture. This is a $100,000+ gown. There's been a lot of talk in the press that she may have been wearing Spanx under the gown--however, if one looks at the photos and the photo of the Runway Sample above--she was not--she's wearing the undergarment corset/jumpsuit that comes with a $100,000 made-to-order gown. Get it right kids! Victory Rolls Hair She topped off her "Fan Photo-Op/Hello Sydney" ensemble with a 1940's-inspired green wig reminiscent of the "Victory Rolls" hairstyle of the time. Now, back to the gown: did I mention that this is a hand-made six-digit figure costing gown (if she--or anyone else--were to order and buy it). I'm sure it's a borrowed sample. And it looked FABULOUS on her. Too Long: The way my Fashion Designer-discerning eye can tell it's a runway sample, its the "Runway Dead Giveaway": the length. It's way too long on her... Runway Sample Length Notice how, even with those 12" platform heels, the gown is still, about 5 inches too long and is (Dio Mio!) just eating up the dirt on the sidewalk--and not too mention she is stepping on the hand-beaded fabric that some little old Italian woman will have to fix later at the Atelier Versace studios... 90's Diva: Lady Gaga in Versace 1990's If you've been keeping up on "All Things Lady Gaga"--you know that she's been wearing Versace A LOT. She has been the catalyst for Donatella Versace to bring back all those iconic 1990's looks from the House since Miss Gaga has been "featuring" them every now and then, schooling all her "Little Monsters" on how important it is to know your Fashion History, especially the 1980's and 90's. Lady Gaga in April: wearing Atelier Versace Spring 2011 arriving at Seoul's Gimpo International Airport to kick off her "Born This Way Ball" tour Lady Gaga has been wearing Atelier Versace for many of her arrivals during her "Born This Way Ball" tour, So her Haute Couture Versace appearance in Sydney over the weekend is no surprise. The 26-year old pop star wore Atelier Versace Spring 2011 as she stepped out of Customs at Seoul's Gimpo International Airport back in April to begin her tour. Again, it was a Runway Sample as you can see from the trailing UBER-long hem. I wonder why the Atelier Versace team--or Lady Gaga's stylist peeps won't sew up the too-long hem--at least temporarily. I wonder if the Versace people just won't allow it? Inquiring minds (me!) want to know... Even more interesting is the fact that she has been wearing LOTS of Versace but yet, her "Born This Way Ball" tour costumes are designed by Giorgio Armani and the Armani team: Giorgio Armani Costumes for Lady Gaga, "Born This Way Ball" tour Why didn't they write into the contract that she had to wear Armani Prive upon arriving as well? It just seems odd that she would be wearing Versace on her "off time" and Armani during her "stage/tour time". What do guys think? I'd LOVE to hear (or read) your Two Cents...Let me know your comments!

Rita Hayworth is a classic beauty & redhead, as well as an icon of the 1940's. To get her look, we turned to New York City makeup artist, Sarah Salice. 'When thinking of her three things come to mind: lashes, lips, & skin,' said Salice. 'Rita's makeup is not over-the-top or dramatic. She was a natural beauty.' Here is how to get Rita Hayworth's work: Skin Prep: 'I cleanse the skin with Make Up For Ever Cleansing Milk as it does not require water & it is very gentle on all skin types. Then, I put a bit of Lucas Paw Paw
I love the classic vintage looks of Audrey Hepburn. Whether she wears an updo or a bouffant, she looks more feminine and gorgeous with the particular hairstyles for that era. Today Hepburn’s updo in Roman Holiday and her bouffant in Breakfast at Tiffany’s are recreated by many other celebrities successfully,
