A very attractive late Victorian walnut washstand with figured walnut veneers to the cupboard panels. The tile back gives a strong Art Nouveau flavour and are quite stunning in their beauty. The cabinet has had it's finish revitalised as well as the black mottled marble top. A single towel rail survives and this piece has a particularly nice pediment above the shallow shelf. less

This image won't win prizes for clarity but I wanted to point out the crude and inadequate backdrop often seen on images of this era. Daguerreotype studios were popping up everywhere by 1845 and from the looks of it this one could have been at an outdoor fair. Throw a sheet over the wagon and you have a traveling studio!
