The 12 Disciples (updated version) Click to see larger. There are reasons for most of their appearances - some very tenuous, but it helps to get variety. I'll post proper character sheets for each of them some time - this is just a sneak preview. I've never actually designed all the disciples before. In my regular work, I have a set of clothes/hairstyle/facial features I always use for Peter, John & Matthew, and the others are just drawn out of my head (if you counted all the different ones I've drawn, they would be more than 12!). But none of them have any character. But for these pictures, I researched what was written about them, and made them into real people. You may use these pictures for personal use (e.g. a Sunday School class). Please do not publish them in any form, sell them, post them elsewhere on the internet, add them to an image library or do anything else with them. Thanks! If you would like individual figures, you can download for free here. Edit: I have now done a Jesus figure too. Edit II: These pictures are part of a PowerPoint: You can now buy it by clicking here.
My mom gave these adorable (and useful) little treat bags to her Primary class awhile back. We have loved watching the views and pins grow on this Primary Handouts Update, specifically these little Good Samaritan First Aid kits. My Mom wanted me to post the printables so everyone could easily print them out. She filled these adorable little bags with a few fun treats, and added a little note to each one. Which also went a long with the poem she included. I absolutely love how she puts so much thought into her lessons. I know the kids feel so special when they get these handouts! She gave this handout for Lesson 37-I'll serve Jesus Christ by serving others, but really this could be used for a variety of things and groups! Everyone could use some "aid" sometime in their lives! :) Like I mentioned before my mom taught this lesson to her primary class, if you're interested the specific lesson is Primary 3 Lesson 37: I'll Serve Jesus Christ by Serving Others you can find the lesson outline she followed on LDS.org HERE or in the book Primary3-CTR B. My Mom couldn't find a little candy watch so she made her own-she bought some little candy bracelets and added a clipart she found online for the watch head. She's so creative, I'm telling ya! If you are wanting candy watches you can find some HERE. All of these little treats help remind us of the little things we can do to help serve others. If you plan on using this lesson you could have each child in the class pull something out of one bag and read the attached note until you have read them all as a class. I plan on sharing more Primary printables so make sure to check back soon! :) Here's the inside scoop on where she found all these items: white bags-Dollar Tree in the wedding section or even these from Amazon candy bracelets-Zurchers or other party store or candy watches can be found HERE Kleenex-Dollar Tree Other Candy-Walmart twine-Jo-Ann (use 40% off coupon) If you'd like the free printable for everything you can find them all HERE! We often say at Third that as followers of Jesus we are called to live differently than those around us. We are called to behave differently. But have you ever considered that as disciples of Jesus we are also called to tell time differently?

Jesus Picks His Disciples includes the printables for the dozen Disciples egg carton! An oldie but goodie post! poster This week Jesus is going to pick out His helpers. They are called Disciples, which means follower. (Apostle means one who is sent.) Scripture reference: Mark 1:1:14-20; John 1:35-51, Matthew 10:1-8; Mark 3:13-19; Luke 6:13-16 The Disciples included three sets of brothers: Simon (whom He had named Peter) and Andrew. James and John, Zebedee's sons. James and Thaddeus, sons of Alpheus First is (2) Andrew and (4) John. At about 4 in the afternoon, Jesus talked to Andrew and John. They asked Jesus where He was staying, and He told them to come and see. They spent the rest of the day with Jesus. Andrew went to find his brother Simon and told him that they (Andrew and John) had found Jesus. Then Simon went to Jesus and Jesus told Simon that he would be called (1) Peter which means rock. At the same time, John went to get his brother (3) James. John 1:43-51 Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found (6) Philip and told him to “Follow me.” Philip found (7) Bartholomew. He was also called Nathanael. He asked Philip if anything good could come out of Nazareth and Philip told him to come and see Jesus! They went to Jesus and Jesus greeted them and told Bartholomew “Before Philip called you, I saw you sitting under the fig tree". Bartholomew was amazed and Jesus told him that he would see greater things. Because Jesus had known that Bartholomew was sitting under a fig tree, he knew that Jesus was special! So, we have Simon, now called (1) Peter by Jesus and (2) Andrew his brother. The two brothers (3) James & (4) John. And we have (6) Philip. All of these five Disciples were from Bethsaida, which was a fishing town. People think that (11) Simon was also brought in as a Disciple around the same time. (5) Matthew was a tax collector. He collected taxes outside the city of Capernaum. People who came by him had to pay taxes for average items they traded. The fishermen also paid taxes on their catches. People didn’t like the tax collectors because they overcharged to make extra money for themselves. It was usually a 5% fee, but some things were charged up to 12%. People thought the tax collector's money was so unclean, they didn’t ask for their change! Matthew 9:9 says that Jesus saw Mathew sitting at the tax office and walked up to him and said, “Follow Me.” Matthew did. (9) James, son of Alphaeus & (10) Thaddeus. There isn’t much told to us about them. (8) Thomas is known as Doubting Thomas because he didn’t believe that Jesus, after He died was raised from the dead. (12) Last, we have Judas Iscariot. He is the one that betrayed Jesus. He was the treasurer for the Disciples. (John 12:6) He betrays Jesus for money. We’ll learn more about him later. Jesus told them that they were to preach, preach, preach! Jesus told them to heal the sick including the lepers. Click here to download the above visuals. The 2 year olds counted the apostles. An upside egg carton works perfectly with there being 12 places to stick apostles on popsicle sticks! Also used the poster board with apostles while singing the apostles song and then used it in a matching center. Kids matched the smaller apostles with the one on the poster board. Tune: "If You're Happy And You Know It" One day Jesus called some fisherman. One day Jesus called some fisherman. He called "come follow me" They left their nets and went, One day Jesus called some fisherman. To go along with our "by the sea" theme the kids counted sea shells in one center They also went fishing in a pool filled with tissue paper and fish with paper clips attached. I hot glued a heavy duty magnet to the end of a string attached to a pole for them to fish with.

Lesson: Jesus calls us to follow Him 1. Story: Tell the story of Jesus calling the fishermen to be His disciples from Luke 5:1-11. One day, Jesus went to the Sea of Galilee. People crowded around Him and listened to the word of God. There were two fishing boats at the shore, one belonging to a fisherman named Simon. Jesus got into Simon’s boat and asked him to put the boat a bit further from the shore. Then Jesus sat down and taught the people from the boat. After he taught the people, he told Simon, “Go to the deep water and put down the nets for a catch.” Simon wasn’t so sure. After all, he was the fisherman. “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.” Simon was tired from being out all night. He didn’t want to try to catch fish again. Yet, somehow, this strange man Jesus seemed to know something he didn’t. So Peter said, “But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” So Peter and his friends cast the net into the water. And guess what happened?! Suddenly the whole net was full of fishes! There were so many, that the nets began to break! So they called their partners, James and John, to help them! And both boats were soooo full that they began to sink! Suddenly Simon fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” Jesus told Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on, you will fish for people.” So Simon, James and John pulled their boats up on the shore, left everything and followed Jesus. Act it out: Props: Long table, 2 badminton nets, many cutout card fishes (can be reused for craft) Set up a long table on its sides on the stage to resemble the side of the boat. Pin the cutout card fishes to one of the nets; fill up the net if possible. Hide this net between the table and the wall. (You may want to stick one edge of the net to the back of the table for easy access). Place the other empty net on the stage, visible to the kids. Teacher sits on chair on the stage, as if in a boat, while telling the story. When it comes to putting down the nets, take the empty net and cast it behind the table. Then do a “switch” and pull up the “full” net, slowly, as if it’s very heavy. Call 2 boys to come on stage to help you pull the nets too. When the “full” net is on the stage, let the boys sit down and continue with the rest of the story and lesson. 2. Lesson: Good news for today! When we do things on our own effort, sometimes we get little or no results. Like the fishermen who worked long and hard, through the night. But when Jesus tells you where to go and what to do, the result is more than you can ask for or imagine. Like Simon, we have to realise that no matter how good or clever we are, we cannot be good enough to meet God’s standards. But the good news is, Jesus is good enough! And when we trust in Him, He makes us good enough too. Isn’t that good news? Don’t you want to tell other people how good Jesus is? Once you know how good Jesus is to you, you will be like the fishermen — you will leave everything (your own efforts, your achievements, your strengths) because Jesus is better than whatever we have. And we will want to share His love and grace to all your friends too! 3. Activity Ideas: a. Song: I will make you fishers of man b. Activity Sheet: Fish Maze c. Fishing Memory Verse Prepare 3 sets of 9 fish cutouts (total 27); write on each one:| From | now | on | you | will | fish | for | people | Luke 5:10b | Divide kids into 3 groups. Pass each group a set of jumbled up fish cutouts and let them arrange them to form the verse. d. Craft: Fish Card Each kid gets a cutout card fish (can use the same ones used in the story telling). Have them write the memory verse on one side of the fish. On the other side, let them write the name of a friend that they’d like to share the good news of Jesus with. Lead them to pray for the friends who do not yet know Jesus’ love and goodness. ***** Youth Bible Study Leader's Guide Jesus calls us to follow Him Read Luke 5:1-8 Jesus' Life: Jesus calls us to follow Him Read Luke 5:1-8 1. Where was Jesus in this story? By the Lake of Gennesaret (or the Sea of Galilee) 2. Where did Jesus preach from? Simon’s fishing boat. 3. What did Jesus tell Simon to do after he finished speaking? To put out into deep water and let down the nets for a catch. 4. How did Simon Peter respond? How do you think he felt? “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Simon was tired from being out all night. He didn’t want to try to catch fish again. After all, he was the fisherman, the “expert”. Yet, somehow, this strange man Jesus seemed to know something he didn’t, so he obeyed. 5. What happened next? They caught a large number of fish until their nets began to break. Then they signalled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and both boats were so full until they began to sink. 6. What was Simon’s response to this miracle? He fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 7. What did Jesus say? And how did the fishermen respond? “Don’t be afraid; from now on, you will fish for people.” Then Simon, James and John pulled their boats up on the shore, left everything and followed Jesus. · Lesson: o When we do things on our own effort, sometimes we get little or no results.
