This is an Art Nouveau period French advertising poster for Van Houten cocoa powder and hot chocolate. This expressive and realistic poster features a barefoot boy in the center foreground of the image. Behind him is a wall with several old, worn postings, with a pristine one for "Cacao Van Houten" pasted over them. The warm, bright color palate of this poster adds a distinct feel of hominess to this traditional Art Nouveau period poster. Van Houten is a brand of chocolate that was founded in 1815 in Amsterdam by Coenraad Johannes van Houten. Since the second half of the nineteenth century it has been one of the most famous chocolate brands in the world. Today it is part of the Swiss corporate group, Barry Callebaut. Printed in France, 1900s.
