We are always trying to think outside of the box. So, for St. Patrick’s Day we came up with an untraditional traditional meal. Sounds like us: traditional in an untraditional way…and loving it! We did a roll up with corned beef and cabbage our way. Sometimes the best meals are quick and easy, this is both.

Combining a dense mix of natural elements, Bologna, Italy-based artist Nunzio Paci (previously) reckons with the fragile line between life and death. Many of his 2019 oil paintings visualize both alert and recumbent animals, often with open eyes, intertwined with each other, leafy vines, and tall flowers. “Let me rest between brome and stones” depicts a dead deer with glazed over eyes lying among tall grasses and prairie flowers. “Blueberry chicken that thinks about tomorrow” has a more literal correlation to its title, featuring a blue- and purple-hued bird with its breast feathers replaced by the similarly colored fruit. Futaro Mitsuki's hyperdetailed drawings use pointillism and mythology to craft absorbing scenes. The Tokyo-born artist crafts works that infuse a broader art history with traditional Japanese iconography. With works like 2017’s "Monna Lisa,” that infusion is both startling and most present.
Capturing anatomical essences with uncanny skill, Japanese artist Noriyuki Saitoh constructs life-sized insects using bamboo. The natural material’s versatility lends a surprisingly wide range of colors and textures to each creature. And although the first impression is of insects that are ready to crawl or fly off the page, Saitoh engages a thoughtful process of paring down each bug to its essential forms that give the impression of life. As the artist writes on his website, “Since we are not preparing specimens and replicas, we strictly measure the [overall] dimensions and prioritize the appearance, impressions, features, and senses rather than proportions being created exactly…reality as a work is born if you thin out the elements and leave room to imagine.” Saitoh is active on Twitter and Facebook where you can follow more of his creations and see works in progress. DDR Design contemporized, hand painted, multi lacquered in 2k high gloss varnish. learn out of a past that has been created for me, a foundation to build on my own work And create new pathes of art, design and everything that comes with it. Like my heros Braque and Duchamp invented an artform out of existing things, I build my works out and with existing useable pieces like furniture parts or whole classic pieces of designers and craftsmen, rework them, and give them a new destination which I call re-done or con temporized. To build an open mind for peolple who like classic furniture but interpretate them in a simple, unperfect perfectnes that makes you think. Combining pieces in a untraditional way with traditional methods, like different shapes and different colour matches. The only problem is to find a springboard, parent material to begin with. It works , sometimes it does’nt, or other times you have to wait till the right idea comes. Every piece has a destination and its own mind. Staab 2023.
