I'm super-excited to share that Paper Issues and PageMaps are teaming up this month! Here's what I created: and the fun sketch Becky sent me to work with: Here are some details. Most everything on this page is from Photo Play's Stuck on You collection. I added a couple of enamel dots from my stash onto the clouds for a little dimension. The black and white floral piece was fussy- cut from the journaling card paper. This is such a lovely collection, and Stacie even created a free cut file to go with this collection. While you're taking a peek at free cut files, check out the awesome goodies for sale in the shop. Use my code, Debbi (no e on the end), and you'll receive 20% off your entire order!
I recently played over at Scrap the Boys, and my layout was chosen as a favorite, so I was delighted to be asked to be a guest designer. This month, they have a mood board to inspire our layouts: I made another page to give to one of my students. I obviously used the color scheme from the mood board. I wanted to draw some details from all four quadrants of the mood board: Inspired by the top left quadrant, I added the glasses, and the plastic necklaces inspired the use of plastic elements (epoxy stickers, puffy stickers, and the googly eyes). I also used a hounds-tooth patterned paper in the layers behind the photo, like the guy's jacket. In the top right quadrant, I loved the way all those colors butted up against each other, and I decided to find a cut file that I could back with papers in all the different colors of the mood board. The bottom left image inspired me to use some prints that had leafy patterns. From the bottom right quadrant, I wanted to add a horse, but I just couldn't find in my stash and decided another animal would do. I found these cute puffy alligators that matched the palette so I went with those, which added the perfect bit of whimsy that the horse head added to the mood board. Here are some details. I used all scraps, some extremely old, including some Ki Memories paper, to back a cut file by The Cut Shoppe. That fun epoxy speech bubble is from Crate Paper's Cool Kid collection, as are the word "Believe" from the title and the black stars. I love adding googly eyes whenever I get the chance. They add such a fun, playful touch. I hope you'll come play along. This was a fun mood board with lots of possibilities!
I made another page for one of my students: This layout was inspired by the Frame it Up challenge over at Paper Issues: Here are some details. Most of the papers are from Photoplay's Like a Girl collection, as are the red letter stickers (the black vinyl letter stickers are Thickers). That chipboard flamingo is by My Mind's Eye (On Trend 2)--I thought the color of the flamingo matched peach in the circles on the right-hand side paper. All the flair badges are from A Flair for Buttons. The blue frames were fussy-cut from an old paper by My Little Shoebox. The speech bubbles were cut from one the Like a Girl papers. The camera was cut from a paper by Dear Lizzy Saturday collection, and that puffy heart that says Love it is by Heidi Swapp.
Creative Scrappers just revealed another awesome sketch this morning: I made another page for Monica's book. In case you don't know about her story, Monica is my best friend's daughter. Her 23-year-old husband just died last month after a six-year battle with bone cancer. I'm grabbing pictures off of their Facebook pages to make her a book to remember all the precious memories from their too-short life together. I can't remember why, but i flipped the sketch horizontally. I also used a palette from The Color Room (it was the current palette at the time I made it, but I couldn't share at the time). I see my blue's a little off. Hmmm... I promise it was very close to what I had printed out (I always print the palettes on colored paper). Here are some details: The little frames came from a My Little Shoebox paper. I had just ordered a sheet on clearance at 2Peas, having no idea what I was going to use it for, and it was perfect for this sketch. I just ordered several more sheets because I liked it so much! That striped paper is really old Chatterbox. Actually, all the patterned papers (except the frame) are really old. The word stickers are by The Girls' Paperie. I've got a piece of white scalloped Doodlebug Paper Frills tucked in there. Remember those? From before there were border punches that could do the trick? That kraft paper is textured. Can't remember who it's by--it's also really old. There are some more word stickers that I stitched down. The taupe paper is old too--by Dream Street. I added those pearls at the last minute because my page needed a little something else. I used some old Prima flowers in place of the paint splats on the sketch. I love these old flowers and never seem to be able to use the polka dot ones but they felt perfect here. I added some perfect pearl dots here and there and on a couple of the title letters. We had a really gorgeous reveal (as always), so you must go check out what the rest of the team made, and I hope you'll play along. This is such a fun sketch! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and reading about my page!
We've got a fun new challenge live at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration. Here's the Case File: I made two layouts! The first one I made was for one of my students. Clues I used...Evidence: polka dots, clouds, bow, light bulb, animals, bugs, hearts, plants, transparent stuff, enamel dots; Testimony: Write about what makes me happy (my students). Here are some closeups. The giant lightbulb is a Silhouette cut file. I backed it with vellum, which unfortunately went a little warpy when I glued those vinyl Thickers on. (I should've known better). The clouds were stamped with a Felicity Jane Stamp. Cant' remember where the die cuts are from since I've divided them up by color. There are some puffy stickers from my ever-growing puffy sticker collection (I'm obsessed with puffy stickers!) for my animal and heart clues. I think the flower die cuts are from Cocoa Vanilla. The second page I made with the January Felicity Jane kit called Sophie. I couldn't help but make another page when I got this kit in the mail because the colors were almost perfect. That's my friend's daughter and the journaling came from my friend's facebook page post on the photo. Clues on this page: Evidence - polka dots, clouds, banners, hearts, sailboat, plants, transparency; Testimony - Journal on a cloud. All products except the green paper and letter stickers are by Felicity Jane. Here are some details. The boat and clouds are Silhouette cut-files. I used the Silhouette sketch pens for the journaling. The white puffy letter stickers are by Evalicious. I thought the scallops on one of the Felicity Jane papers would be perfect to serve as waves. I haven't used my embossing folders in forever. I thought the clouds needed a little extra something. I hope you'll come play with us. We've got lots of awesome sponsors donating prizes again this month. Definitely come check out what the rest of the team and our guest designers made for this Case File.
So, I'm making pages for my students, and this is the latest layout: I made this for Paper Issues Scraplift Sunday challenge. Here's the page we had to scraplift. I scraplifted the basic design, but
We've got a brand new challenge over at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration. I made another page for one of my students: Here's the Case File that inspired the page. I went the traditional CSI clues route for this page: Evidence: solid background, stripes, floral pattern, flowers, ribbons, labels, bling, puffy stickers, tissue paper, text print (in place of the book page), gold elements, and vintage elements (in the form of that slide frame). Testimony: Write on a label. I was stuck for how to begin my page, so I headed over to Paper Issues to see if I could find a sketch, and I found their Sunday Scraplift challenge. I love Anita's layout so, so much, and as you can see, I pretty much scraplifted it literally. Here are some close-ups. My layout started with those giant pom-pom flowers, which reminded me of these tissue paper Martha Stewart flowers I've had in my stash for at least 7 years. The chipboard butterflies and florals are from the Simple Stories I Am collection. That pink chipboard frame is by Crate Paper. Instead of a book page, I used a text print. The tab above the photo is an old Pink Paislee. The die-cut leafy element is by Simply Graphic. The floral paper is by Crate Paper Maggie Holmes. The typewriter is also from the I Am collection. I really wanted to put that "You are my sunshine" to look like it was coming out of the typewriter, but I just couldn't bring myself to cover up that pretty rose-gold foiled heart. The pink papers are from Maggie Holmes too, as is that gold phrase sticker. I added the yellow rhinestone for one of the clues. I hope you'll play along with CSI for a chance to win a prize from or generous sponsors We've got 15 prizes up for grabs this month! And don't forget to check out that scraplift challenge over at Paper Issues. They award gift certificates to their store too!
I got a chance to play with another challenge over at Paper Issues. This time, it was a mood board challenge: Here's the page I created. I was inspired by winter theme and all the different images that got me remembering little memories from my childhood. The purple and yellow made me think of Crate Paper's Snow and Cocoa collection, which is what I used for this page. Here are a few details. I wish I'd had some pictures of me playing in the snow when I was a kid, but I had to settle for this picture of me in a fuzzy coat, taken at Christmas time. I found a sparkly frame in my stash, by MAMBI to lay over it and add another layer. I fussy cut the snowmen from a Snow & Cocoa paper and left one in the yellow rectangle. I drew on their arms. I cut one the teal snowflake in half so I could use the other half on the other side of the layout. The word "Cold" was cut out of one of the Snow and Cocoa patterned papers. The word "memories" is a Silhouette cut file. It wasn't showing up on that kraft colored paper, so I just tore a piece of white paper to hold it, which I thought sort of looked like a snow mound. Those snowflakes are so ginormous for my 8 x 8 pages, but I thought they looked kind of cool layered behind other elements. My husband got me a We R Memory Keepers typewriter for Christmas, and I knew I was going to have a lot of journaling, so I decided I'd use that and type a bunch of random childhood winter memories on an old Jenni Bowlin journaling spot. I made a typo, as you can see. Note to self: Buy some correction tape (do they even make that anymore?). Those little trees, cut from a Snow & Cocoa paper are so darn cute. I needed to bring in a little more purple, and I found that purple paper behind the snowman--an old SEI paper scrap from my stash. The little phrase on that snowman said oh, so cold, so I made it part of the title by overlapping the C.
Scraplifting is fun, and Paper Issues has several Scraplift Sunday challenges going in July. One of the challenges was to scraplift me! I already scraplifted this once before with my Sleep in a Pineapple layout, but you can always do a different twist, and here's what I came up with: Here's a reminder of my layout we had to scraplift: As you can see, i used the same basic design, and instead of the chipboard alpha behind the photo, I used mesh and stamping. Here are some details. I used Echo Park's Imagine That, which is so adorable and perfect for little boys. I thought the little cars were perfect to go with this photo. There's a shark on the sticker sheet, which would've also been perfect, since he's got a shark on his sleeve, but I couldn't make it work. I know the pterodactyl doesn't go with the cards, but he was so cute and I thought he'd be good to go with the clouds, plus the title is "Just imagine," so I thought what the heck! I added a googly eye for playfulness. The orange car was cut from a patterned paper. That chevron stamp is by Kaisercraft. I'm making some pages for my husband's grand-nephew, and I decided I'd add a heart to each page, thnking that might be fun for him to find the heart on each page. I hope you'll play along. Be sure to post your creation by August 5 in the Paper Issues Friends & Fans Facebook page for a chance to win a gift certificate to the Paper Issues store. And speaking of the Paper Issues store, check out all of their cool new stuff, and if you use my code, Debbi (no e on the end), you can get 20% off your entire order!
Our first June Case File at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration is whimsical and delightful. It was chosen to commemorate National Donut Day: I made this page for a friend of mine. I had just recently purchased a sticker sheet from Echo Park's Imagine That collection, which has many of the colors in the Case File, and when I saw that there were lots of animals on that sticker sheet, I decided that would be my starting place. From there, I chose several of the traditional Evidence clues, including: stripes, hearts, bows, rhinestones, animals, glitter, and stars. Here are some details. I love the scripty foam Thickers, but they're so big for an 8 x 8 page, but I just had to use it for the title because it's just the word I thought of when I saw these photos. I couldn't resist tucking that kitty unicorn into the clouds. The sticker sheet came with only one floral element, but I found a sheet of flowers in the same shade of pink and fussy cut them to add to other spots on my page. I was trying to figure out where to add rhinestones (one of the Evidence clues), and I decided they'd look whimsical on the clouds. Another kitty unicorn floating in a cloud. The sparkly teal frame is by Crate Paper. As always, we've got tons of generous sponsors donating prizes and gift certificates, so I hope you'll come play along for some fun and a chance to win!
Last year, I posted my top ten layouts from 2010, and I thought I'd do it again because I had so much fun looking through my work to see what I had made over the course of a year. Here are my 11 favorites from 2011, in no particular order: Knock-Knock: Love this one because of the funny story and how I managed to cram so many fun things on one 8 x 8 page and leave a little white space. Not to mention I completely ADORE the Sass monsters and I'm going to be extremely sad when I run out of them! Wisteria: I love the colors (one of the many palettes I created for CCG) and used one of my favorite Webster's Pages papers (the lantern). I also used a lot of really old stash, which always makes me happy. And I'm feeling a little wistful thinking about my old backyard--I'm so happy we took these pictures in the backyard that day to have this memory of my old house that we lived in for the past 20 years. You're a Jerk: This was my first page on the Creative Scrappers design team, and I thought the sketch was tricky because of the multiple photos (8 x 8, remember...), the ink and the grid stamped in the background (direct stamping and mist spray terrify me), but I think I pulled it off well. Fearless: Don't know why this one tickles me so much. Maybe that I've got a little white space on here (I'm totally white space challenged). I like the way I used the curvy designs on the paper, and I finally scrapped a picture that had been in my stash for nearly a decade. -esque: I love how this one turned out. I love the unusual colors (another palette I designed for CCG). I love the marriage between REALLY old stash and semi-new. And I love the story. It marks the beginning of my skype friendships that have become a big part of my life. I Love Words: I love the topic. I love that almost everything on here came from a kit (Noel Mignon Office Party)--I always find that a challenge to limit myself, and everyone knows I love a challenge. Recipe for a Statue: This picture makes me smile. I like my appraoch for journaling. I just like the combination of *stuff* I included on here, again, using some really old stuff along with a few newer things. I also opened a tub of gesso for the first time to soften the color of the star paper. Pieces of Me: I love how this page turned out. It kind of evolved as I was building it, and I love those little Sass party animals peeking out. I thought my topic was interesting. I journaled about the bits and pieces of my body--the good, bad, ugly, as my subtitle says. I had fun using a Studio Calico kit for this one, so that made me happy (I tend to hoard my kits). Literary Lizard: I absolutely LOVE that I had my camera the day this happened. This page will forever make me smile when I see it. And Leo is getting old and isn't doing well this week. :( I love the textures I used on this. Rainbow Puddles: I have to admit that I didn't think I was going to be able to use these papers when Nikki Sivils was sponsoring us at CCG. I don't do "cutesy" very well. But I absolutely love how this turned out. I love that I remembered this circle paper that came in a Studio Calico kit and I turned it into a rainbow. I love that I thought of adding those pearls, and I love how I added Glossy Accents to the dots to give them that rain-glossed feel. Just Visiting: I love this one because--well, the Sass monsters, of course. And that I scrapped a picture of my mom (she's unbelievably camera shy). And that I made a page for my Book of Silly, which I haven't done too many of lately. Gotta get on that because Lord knows I have enough silly pictures! Sweet Freedom: I just love the colors (I made this palette up too), and this is one of my favorite pictures of me. I used all really old paper, including one of my old faves (that Making Memories branchy one), but I think I did a good job of making my page not feel dated. I love the wispy threads I left on. It's always fun to look back at the past year's work. I had a long hiatus during my move when I couldn't scrap, so I'm just now getting back into it after a few months, and I'm looking forward to another year of scrapping. I'm especially excited about my new challenge site, CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration. I hope you'll check it out and sign on as a member. :) We're launching in less than a week. It promises to be so much fun! Thank you for stopping by my blog and reading about my favorite pages!
Our latest challenge at CSI went live a couple of days ago. Here's my page: Here's our Case File. As usual, I use the traditional clues because, since I make up the clues, that's sort of how I interpret The Scene in the Case File. If you're new to the challenge, just scroll to the bottom of the reveal to find those clues. I used as many of the clues as possible. I obviously used the color scheme. Evidence clues I used include a text pattern, patterned paper with a hand-drawn look, speech bubbles, architectural elements, transportation, travel-themed elements, trees, cursive font, triangles, and stamping. Testimony clues include documenting a trip and putting my journaling in a speech bubble. Here are some details. I used a whole bunch of odds and ends on this page, some very old. That one of the things I love about our challenge is that it has me digging through my stash. For example, that blue text paper is really old Scenic Route paper, as are a couple of layers behind the photo. Those colors in the Case File immediately called to mind Scenic Route's Metropolis. The globe is a cut file from the Silhouette store. The flair badge is from A Flair for Buttons. The little houses are cut from a Dear Lizzy paper. That cool metal airplane is by EK Success. I snagged that for cheap at Tuesday Morning last summer. The speech bubble is a stamp. That xoxo stamp is super duper old, a Pebbles sticker. I think I cut the little black camera out of an Amy Tangerine paper. I hope you'll come play with us, and be sure to go check out the reveal. Some AMAZING stuff from the design team. We've got 13 sponsors donating prizes this month, so make sure you play!

Today I'm up on the Paper Issues blog. Here's my post: Good morning, Paper Issues fans! Are you ready to be ad-spired? I'm sharing a fun challenge to make a layout inspired by this ad: The clock featured in this ad made me think of the fact that I get up at 5:00 seven days a week, even when I'm on vacation. The title "Early Bird" came to me, so I went to my stash looking for birds as well as a paper collection that featured red, since that's the first thing that caught my attention in this ad. The Fancy Pants Dream Big collection has both red in some of the papers and birds, so that's what I went with. The store still has a few elements from this beautiful collection, including the "Call It a Plan" patterned paper, which is the star-sprinkled paper I used as my base. I mostly used sheets from the Dream Big 6 x 6 pad and some bits and pieces from the ephemera pack. The alarm clock is from a free cut file called "Back to School." The Simple Stories gold title and hearts are a nod to the metal in the ad's clock. I adhered most everything with adhesive foam to give my layout some extra dimension. I couldn't find a proper spot to add my journaling, so I put it on back with a note about that along the bottom to echo the text in the the bottom of the ad. My journaling basically talks about how I went from a night owl to an early bird, why I love getting up early, and how I spend my morning time. I hope you'll give this fun challenge a try. I'd love to see how the ad inspires you! You have until July 1 to play. Make sure you share your creation in the Paper Issues Friends & Fans Facebook album for a chance to win a gift certificate to the Paper Issues shop. And take a peek at all the awesome stuff in the store. Be sure to use my code, Debbi, to get 20% off your entire order!
Case File No. 71 is open for investigation at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration, and it's a fun one--great colors, fun evidence and testimony, and an awesome sketch created just for us by our Composite Sketch Artist, the beautiful and talented Em Stafrace. I haven't made a page for my "Book of Silly" for a while, so I went in search of a picture for this book of silly family photos. I found this picture of my nephew and his girlfriend on my sister's Facebook page, and I knew I wanted to scrap it. I've been saying for a while that I don't get the whole mustache trend, but I got sucked in for this page. Clues I used...Evidence: circles, birds, speech bubbles, clouds, doodling/pen work, vellum, and bicycle( I thought the circles sort of looked like bicycle wheels); Testimony: Use speech bubbles to hold journaling, make up a conversation. My camera apparently hates yellow. I took about 50 pictures of this layout and it still doesn't look quite right. Sigh. Here are some details. I'm in love with those little Studio Calico wood veneer birds. I bought 3 packs of them on sale, so you'll see them on lots of my layouts for years to come! I used my Silhouette Cameo for several things on this page, including the clouds, speech bubbles (the grid paper ones), and the mustaches. Papers I used are Bella Blvd (yellow chevron), American Crafts (blue, and circles), Scenic Route (grid), Collage Press for Pink Paislee (red stars), My Little Shoebox (blue grid behind the yellow). I got the Coordinates after I had finished my page but I just had to use this "carpe diem" word art. So fun! That little blue bit with a heart is called a metal dot, and it's by Colorbok--I got them from JoAnn's. I put the clouds on pop dots to make them float. I thought the gray velvet Thickers were sort of like a fuzzy mustache and perfect for my page. Here's a closeup of those circles cut out of the Amy Tangerine paper. I thought they looked like bicycle wheels. The "dialogue" speech bubble is also in the Coordinates. Come see all the cool interpretations of this Case File and sketch here.

Did you know May is Creative Beginnings Month? I'm not sure exactly how that's celebrated elsewhere, but at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration, we used the occasion to make up a beautiful new Case File: And before I share my page, I want to let you know that we're having a design team call, which you can check out here. Here is the page I created. These were the Evidence clues I used, which can be found at the bottom of the reveal. I used all the Evidence clues, along with palette from The Scheme. solid background solid cardstock stripes wonky dots scallops textured paper die cuts/cut files hand cutting washi tape leaves/branches jar/vase shape hand-drawn elements paint circles combine colorful patterns with a black and white pattern metal I'm creating a bunch of pages for my pastor. This is going to be a surprise. Basically, I'm snagging photos of her adorable dogs off her Facebook page and using the captions for either titles or journaling. This photo was taken shortly after her third dog passed away, hence the title. Here are some details. I knew I wanted to use these awesome leafy dies from Simply Graphic. A couple of the dies were from Peachy Cheap.I originally thought of either hand-cutting a vase, but then I remember all these jars from Dear Lizzy papers that were in my stash. I was going to just use one and make a cluster on the page, but my page evolved as I kept adding more jars. I added some butterflies from a punch and sewed through them, leaving some of the ends of the thread behind to look like antennae. For the metal clue, I found this awesome clip by Evalicious and tied some old printed tags that I think are by Making Memories. The jar that has the heart and rhinestone is a stamped image. I used the packaging technique in the background and added some hand-drawn hearts, another clue. The flair badge, which I used for the circles clue, is by A Flair for Buttons. I found this cool double-sided mulberry paper to use for the textured paper clue and tore it at the bottom and then tucked a lacy scalloped border underneath. I do hope you'll come play in this fun challenge. We've got a whole bunch of prizes up for grabs from twelve awesome sponsors:
We've got a brand-new challenge over at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration. Here's the page I made using photos of Tracee and me goofing around with my selfie stick. We were in Chestertown and there were a bunch of sculptures sticking out of the water. We thought it would be amusing to make some "scared" faces in front of this giant crab claw. Here's the Case File. Clues I used. Evidence: animals transparent stuff, dashed lines, triangles, rub-ons, plus signs, sun, scallops. Testimony: Document a summer getaway. Here are some details. The cute little puffy starfish is a Jolee's sticker. The triangles in the background are rub-ons by K&Co, and the plus signs were made with texture paste and a stencil by The Crafter's Workshop. The little fish were cut from and Echo Park paper. The flair badge is from A Flair for Buttons. Here's another puffy sticker from that Jolee's pack. So cute with the googly eyes, and a little shimmery too. I hope you'll come play with us. You can see Tracee's page with the same photos in our reveal. And don't forget--we have seven sponsors donating awesome prize packs and gift certificates for our players:
Case File No. 44 is open for investigation at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration! I decided to document one of my favorite rooms in my new house, my sunroom. I wish I had taken more pictures of my old house over the years. It's fun to look back on how your decorating tastes have changed. I've got another crappy picture because the skies have been so gray all week, but here's my layout anyway. Clues I used...evidence: Stripes, flowers, fruit accent, transparent element, doily pattern; Testimony: Document something I love about my home; Inspiration words: open, sunny, cheerful; 4 things about my subject. I used one of Em Stafrace's awesome Page Drafts sketches as a starting point for my page. I rotated it to accommodate my photos. .Here are some closeups. The gray paper is by SEI, and it's pretty old, as is most of the stuff on my page. Those white flowers are cut from a Ki Memories paper. The yellow polka dots are from an old Scenic Route paper. The teal paper is also by K&Co. That little "cheerful" flag is from a Dear Lizzy paper I love this ridged cardstock. I don't know who makes it, but I love it! The transparent circles are cut from a Hambly overlay. That fabric brad is by BasicGrey, and the "happy" circle is an old K&Co. piece. The white-rimmed brad is old, too--by Deja Views. The doily-patterned paper is by Studio Calico. I dusted off some old Heidi Swapp chipboard letters. I still have TONS of those--I remember when hers were the only chipboard letters you could buy. We have an amazing reveal--our new design team debuted this week! We have three sponsors--My Mind's Eye, Flying Unicorn, and Scrapbook Fantasies--so you'll definitely want to play with us this week. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and reading about my page.
"Enjoy Today" This photo of my husband's niece and her cousins was taken on Lombard Street during their trip to San Francisco. Of course I found some perfect 2Crafty chipboard pieces that would be perfect for the modern, urban look I was going for. But before we start... Please remember to become a blog follower & leave a blog comment to be eligible to go in our monthly draw for a great chippie prize pack. For those who don't know this landmark, Lombard Street is known as one of the crookedest streets in America. It's a block long and has 8 hairpin curves. I thought the curvy arrow in the "Crazy Arrows" set would be perfect for this page. I coated the arrow with black stamp ink. The "Square Collage Panel" reminded me of a city street map, so I used that as a focal point of my page. I left it raw and backed some of the squares with various patterned papers. The border dividing the top and bottom halves of my page is from the "Mixed Border Strips." I inked it with several shades to try to match my polka dot paper and then stamped it with a green ink pad using a tiny polka dot Kaiser Craft stamp for added texture. The "Enjoy Today Mini Title" title was colored with black stamp ink. The title may not look so "mini" on my page because I scrap 8 x 8, so it was a perfect size! I love how the circle from the "6-inch Circle Revolution" set can be laid right onto the photo to frame the beautiful faces. I painted this piece with white gesso. 2Crafty Products used on this page: Crazy Arrows Square Collage Panel Mixed Border Strips Enjoy Today Mini Title 6-inch Circle Revolution "Just Adorable" Meet Minnie Cupcake, my crazy sweet kitten who I discovered has Mickey Mouse ears on her nose (hence the name Minnie). As you can see, she is just adorable, so the 2Crafty title piece was my beginning point for layout. I coated the "Just Adorable" title with two different colors of glitter. I used one of the chunkier pieces from the "Chevron Bits" and cut it in three separate pieces, coating them with white holographic glitter. The "Polaroid Assortment Frames" are one of my favorite 2Crafty elements, and I decided to add a whole bunch of them on my layout to highlight these three sweet pictures of my kitty. I glued different patterned papers on top of them and filled some of them with papers. The lovely "Fanciful Butterflies" are such a sweet adornment, and I coated them with more glitter. The "Love" word came from the "ATC Words 1" set. I used letter stickers to complete the sentiment and used a little chipboard heart from "ATC Tiny Hearts & Stars," covered with patterned paper, as the O in the word you. I created a video detailing my process for creating this layout. It's my very first video for 2Crafty and my first time creating a video with my voice narrating it! We've got a new Case File open for investigation at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration: Here's my page. I made it for my sister-in-law who was visiting us last week.Clues I used: Evidence: kraft background, thin strips, pencil work in background, frames, transportation, eyeglasses, mustaches, clouds, metal, stamps, gears/cogs, string; Testimony: Document an outing. Here are some details. That grid stamp in the background is by Kaiser Craft. There's a border stamp I used (blue on the edge), also by Kaiser Kraft. That little compass brad is by Colorbok, and the Dymo sticker is ancient, by Pebbles. The arrow and mustache stickers are by MAMBI. The clouds were cut form a Bella Blvd. paper. The little cluster has a bunch of different bits and pieces. That black cog is foam--really old, by American Crafts, the eyeglasses are from Hobby Lobby, by Paper House, another brad by Colorbok. There's a little black enamel geotag by We R Memory Keepers, and the "so much fun" sticker is by Simple Stories. That fun little chipboard car is by October Afternoon, and the chipboard frame is by Crate Paper. I've had that kraft background paper, by My Mind's Eye, forever. The text in the background is printed on the paper, and I added a few tiny brads to serve as some journaling. Come see what the rest of the team made, and play with us for a chance at some great scrappy prizes from our sponsors.
I made another page for one of my students. Gotta love spring break! I've been playing a lot over at Paper Issues. So many fun challenges. I made this for their Scraplift Sunday challenge, and here's
I'm so excited to be sharing my very first layout as a member of the Paper Issues design team! My first assignment was to create a monochromatic layout, which took me a little out of my comfort zone because if you know my scrappy style, I'm all about color, and lots of it, but I love a challenge, and I had a blast creating my layout for this one! I went with orange to match the stars in my photograph. Using one of Paper Issues awesome free background cut files is a perfect option for the monochromatic challenge, and I chose the Star of the Show cut file as my starting point. I backed all of those wonderful scattered stars with scraps from my stash, including several from Studio Calico's Thataway 6x6 paper pad. 6x6 pads are perfect for backing intricate die cuts because the patterns are smaller-scale. I also used some orange parts from the Patchwork Show paper from Amy Tangerine's Hustle & Heart collection. And that beautiful scripty "Stars" in my title, is another Paper Issues free cut file called I Love You More Than All of the Stars. Here are the files I used. You can see I used a part of each of them. I layered up my photo with some orange patterns as well as some black and white papers for contrast. The puffy stars are by Pinkfresh Studio. Here's a look at my story, which is partially hidden when it's tucked behind the photo cluster. I hope you'll give this fun challenge a try! Be sure to join us on the Paper Issues Friends and Fans Facebook Page and share your creation there for a chance to win a Paper Issues gift certificate. If you order some of the awesome scrappy goods for sale at Paper Issues, I'd love for you to use the code Debbi, and you'll receive 20% off of your entire order. How amazing is that!
It's my turn to share my projects for this month on the 2Crafty blog. Hello, 2Crafty Fans! I'm here to share three layouts I made with the awesome 2Crafty products. "Cute from Head to Toe" That's Ezra, my best friend's granddaughter, and she is the definition of cute, so the 2Crafty title was just the thing for this layout. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Light Bulbs Frame Zig Zag Borders I just love these light bulbs. They add an interesting, quirky touch to any layout. I used pewter embossing powder to give mine a metallic finish and then added vellum behind it. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Circular Panel Cute Loopy Font The three circles below are cut from a panel of 36 circles. This is such a versatile product. You can use it whole or use parts of it. You can fill the circles or leave them empty to frame parts of your layout. I coated mine with glue and sprinkled pink glitter. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Cute Loopy Font How awesome is the loopy font? It can be whimsical or fancy, depending on your layout. I painted the title with white acrylic paint. Then I stamped it with tiny dots in magenta and coated it with clear embossing powder to give the dots shine. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Frame Zig Zag Borders Polaroid Assortment The zig zag border comes with four nested pieces. Like the circles, I coated them with glue and then sprinkled pink glitter to give them glitz. Up at the top, I tucked a piece of a frame from the Polaroid Assortment into the layers and embossed it with the same pewter embossing powder I used on the lightbulb. "Sightsee" My sister-in-law was visiting from Iran a few weeks ago, and this is a picture my husband took of her in Baltimore. I made this page and framed it for her to take back home to remember her trip to Maryland. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Flourish Adornment Set 4 ATC Tiny Hearts and Stars 6" Clock Face Frames Sightsee title I wanted to somehow represent the water in the photo, and this lovely flourish reminded me of waves splashing. I used navy embossing powder on it and added blue stars for added interest. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Sightsee title Flourish Adornment Set 4 ATC Tiny Hearts and Stars 6" Clock Face Frames I wanted to give my title a weathered look as if sprayed by the water. I embossed it with a rust color. Then I re-melted it and applied white embossing powder and embossed it again. I outlined it with a fine marker to give it added definition. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Asst Arrows 6" Clock Face Frames Polaroid Assortment My husband isn't the best at photographic composition, and it looked like my sister-in-law had a pole coming out of her head! I disguised that with this cool 2Crafty arrow, which I embossed with the same blue embossing powder I used on the stars. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Asst Arrows 6" Clock Face Frames Polaroid Assortment The chipboard circle is from the Clock Face Frames. There are three nested clocks in that set, and in between them are circles, which I used here. I used white embossing powder and wrapped some jute around it. The frame around my Parizad is from the Polaroid Assortment, and I used black stamp ink and added some metal dots. "Brainiac" I created this layout for CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration with the Case File Below. I was trying to answer the question: Are you right-brained or left-brained, and I decided I am both. I found the perfect pieces of 2Crafty chipboard to embellish this layout. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Light Bulbs How cool is this lighbulb? I inked it black and added a sun behind it to act as rays of light. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Gears I thought the gears would be a perfect embellishment to represent the left side of my logical brain. I inked these black and added a colorful geometric brad to the center of one. 2Crafty elements pictured below: Sharon's Butterflies Flourish2 The butterfly was just the thing to represent my creative right brain. I inked it with black stamp ink and added some bling. I used part of the flourish as a butterfly trail. The Flourish2 is a great set to get because you get 10 in a pack, and they're so useful for adding that little extra flair. Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a peek at my pages. I hope I gave you some ideas for using the beautiful 2Crafty chipboard. And remember, to find a 2Crafty stockist near you, drop an email to... [email protected]
We've got a new Case File open for investigation at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration: Here's the page I made. I really wanted to make a page about my cats for this Case File, but I'm making an album for a friend of mine, and this picture was just too perfect for the palette that I had to use it for this challenge. Clues I used: Evidence: animals, trees, diamonds, triangles, stripes, transparent stuff, frame, something fuzzy, puffy stickers; Testimony: Peekaboo journaling. I used a sketch from Stuck?! Sketches: Here are some closeups: I went searching in my transparent items drawer, and I was so pleased to find this transparent corner by Making Memories that's been in my stash for probably a decade! The You brad is by October Afternoon. I also found some fuzzy brads matching the palette. The background chevron paper is by We R Memory Keepers. The orange text print is old, by Jenni Bowlin. I tucked a tag behind the papers so that my friend could journal about her kids' bedtime ritual. That frame is by Crate Paper. I just love these phrase stickers by Simple Stories! The chipboard letters and the ampersand are boht by BasicGrey. That brown paper is by Crate Paper. How fortunate that I was able to find this felt tree in just the right color, which fulfilled the tree and fuzz clues in the Case File, and the little lions met the puffy sticker and animal clues. I got the idea of layering more than one triangle in the corners of the sketch from Nicole Doiron, who's on the Stuck?! Sketches design team. I thought the corner still looked a little empty, so I added a bit of doily, some punched hearts and some other bits and pieces. I used a stencil by Crafter's Workshop and texture paste for some added detail. That diamond paper is by Teresa Collins. Thank you for looking at my page! You'll definitely want to come play with us! We've got twelve awesome sponsors donating prizes this month:
It's my turn to share my DT work on the 2Crafty blog. I'm here to share three layouts I made using the fantastic 2Crafty chipboard. "Happiness" That's my mom and my step-dad, who passed away last Christmas. I've been working on a scrapbook for my mom, and I plan to give this page to her. I used the November challenge at Scrap Around the World as inspiration for this page. I love this mood board! I drew lots of inspiration from it--the wood background, the words stretching across the paper, the doilies, the music paper, the flowers, the colors, the torn edges from the bundles of sheet music, the stencil mimicking the circular wheels on the bike... Here are some details... How beautiful are these Line Word Titles? I love how they stretch across the page. Since I scrap 8 x 8, I had to trim it a bit. I first coated my chipboard title with gesso and then painted it with Twinkling H2O's. It's super shimmery in real life. The 2Crafty chipboard doilies are so pretty, and I was able to use one, cut in half to look like I had used two. I also painted this with a white shimmery Twinkling H2O, The butterfly was also painted with Twinkling H2Os. How sweet are these pen nibs? I mixed two different Twinkling H2O inks to give it an aged patina look and painted the heart to match the butterfly. The heart is actually the inside of a Heart Silhouette. Those hearts are a great product to get because you basically get double the hearts! 2Crafty Products used in this project: Line Words - Happiness Borders Doilies Sharon's Butterflies Pen Nibs Heart Silhouettes Polaroid Assortment Frames "Smile for the Camera" That's my husband's niece. I'm making a book for her too. I used the November challenge at The Color Room as a starting point for my layout. This color palette is so fresh and lovely! I used a paper towel to dab the ink to give it a watercolor feel. Here are some details from this layout... I inked many of the pieces black, including this Tiny Funky Frame, with stamp ink, giving it a cool matte look. I also inked the cameras and then coated it with embossing powder to give it a wet look that went with the pond picture. I outlined the grooves in the camera with a fine-tipped black pen. Love those grooved details 2Crafty adds to many of their chipboard pieces! How awesome are these Word Circles? They are just perfect to serve as a part of an interesting title embellishement. I used a second, larger camera from the set to hold part of the title. The Film Strips are always a perfect embellishment for adding a border. I love how the film strip frames the patterned paper behind it. I cut the film strip in two pieces so that it could extend further, tucking the cut ends behind the photo. 2Crafty Products used in this project: Mini Cameras Word Circles Set 1 Film Strips - Small Frames Tiny Funky "Please Stay Thin" I made this page for a Case File at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration last month. The story stemmed from a prompt that said "If you could write a letter to your younger self, what would you write in only three words?" I only used one piece of chipboard for this page, but I think it's really a highlight of this page and was perfect for this Case File, so I wanted to share it. 2Crafty Products used in this project: Light Bulbs Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a peek at my pages. I hope I gave you some ideas for using the beautiful 2Crafty chipboard. And remember, to find a 2Crafty stockist near you, drop an email to... [email protected]
I'ts my turn at the 2Crafty blog today. Here's my post: "Happy" My first page I'd like to share was created for last month's mood board at Scrap Around the World. 2Crafty was sponsoring this fun challenge, and our design team was invited to play along as guest designers. My page was inspired by the colors and each one of four of the images in the moodboard. And of course, I was able to find the perfect 2Crafty chipboard to make my page. The bottom middle photo of the mood board looked like bubbles and that gave me the idea to use the 2Crafty "Crazy Circles" panel. The watercolor in the top left image of the moodboard inspired me to try giving this piece a watercolor, rainbow look. I sprayed various colors of spray ink on plastic film and then pressed it onto the gesso-coated chipboard panel. I tilted the panel on its side. I love that the open circles give you space to add little bits and pieces. My journaling, tucked into a paper bag starts "There is always something to be thankful for," and I journaled about some of the many blessings in my life. I treated the title, from the "Birthday Sentiments" sheet with the same watercolor technique. The bird in the moodboard gave me the idea to use feathers under my title. I coated them with gesso and then painted them with Twinkling H2O's, which gave them a lovey shimmer. As I was looking for some colorful papers, I came across this piece that looked sort of like a paint chip, and I wondered if the 2Crafty "Small Filmstrip" would work here, and it was just perfect! I inked it with black stamp ink to make it stand out. I watercolored some hearts and stars from the "ATC Tiny Hearts & Stars" sheet to sprinkle around the page. 2Crafty Products used on this layout: Crazy Circles ATC Tiny Hearts & Stars Filmstrips - Small Indian Feathers Birthday Sentiments "Selfie" These lovely ladies are my husband's sister and her daughters. Shahrzad is visiting from Iran, so I decided I'd start an album for her, using pictures I snagged off of her Facebook page. The "Selfies Word Pack" was just the thing for this page, as were the "Polaroid Assortment Frames." I embossed these pieces with a white embossing powder that has silver flecks in it for some glitz and glamour. A glittery, silver-embossed "Mini Camera" was a perfect accent for a selfie page, and it was a great place to stick a subtitle from "Mini Word Set 1." I used black stamp ink on the "Sharon's Butterflies" for a dramatic touch against the bright pink. 2Crafty Products used on this layout: Selfies Word Pack Polaroid Assortment Frames Mini Cameras Sharon's Butterflies Mini Word Set 1 Finally, I'd like to share an additional layout I recently created for CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration using this Case File: "Smile" 2Crafty Products Used on this layout: Small Filmstrips Smile - Loopy Font Thank you so much for visiting today. I hope I've given you some ideas for using these awesome chipboard pieces! Please remember to become a blog follower & leave a blog comment to be eligible to go in our monthly draw for a great chippie prize pack.
We've just opened a new Case File at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration. Tracee and I made another page for our book called Tracee and Debbi's Epic Adventures part 2. Here's my page. Clues I used... Evidence: globe, travel accents, chevrons, tape measure, hinges, metal, leaves, something woven, mesh, stitching, buttons, starburst. Testimony: Document something about a location. I used a sketch from Stuck? Sketches. I flipped elements on the sketch horizontally to form a visual triangle with the bold brown elements on my page. Here are some details. My background paper is a Dear Lizzy paper. I used a stencil from The Crafter's Workshop and some texture paste mixed with a little white and blue acrylic paint. The brown cut files are from The Cut Shoppe. The geotag came from the Round Up set and the title came from the Here and There set. The green stripe paper is really old, by Wild Asparagus. The globe was cut from an Echo Park paper, as was the chevron paper. The labels are also really old, by Fontwerks. I loved their labels. The tape measure rub-on is by 7Gypsies, and the tiny dot stamp is by Kaiser Craft. Some more cut files from The Cut Shoppe--this is from The Happy Camper set. I found a hinge that I've had in my stash for eons, and I also rescued some mesh that has been sitting in my stash for ages. The phrase stickers are by 7Gypsies. You should come see what the rest of the team and guest designers made, and you'll want to play because we have lots of prizes up for grabs.
We'll be making the layout above in the Debbie Sanders free sketch sessions this Saturday. Your cost to make this layout? About $...
We opened a new Case File at CSI: Color Stories Inspiration on Friday, and it will be open for investigation for the entire month: I made another page from when Tracee visited last month, for my Tracee and Debbi's Epic Adventures book. I rotated the sketch counterclockwise. Clues I used...Evidence: dog, map, travel elements, string, mesh, metal, eyeglases, photo corner; Testimony: journal about an outing. Here are some details. Last month, The Cut Shoppe sponsored CSI, and I got to work with some of their cut files, and I just fell in love with them. The cut file below if from their shop. The little metal dot on the geotag is by Colorbok. I have to give Tracee credit for the idea of putting the eyeglasses dirctly on the picture, and it was a perfect touch for this silly picture! We picked those glasses up at Hobby Lobby. The little Say Cheese frame is by We R Memory Keepers. That little dog was cut out of an old Cosmo Cricket Joyride paper. The flair button is from A Flair for Buttons. The little car is from the same Cosmo Cricket paper. I added some metal dots to the wheels. I used an old Making Memories metal photo corner, which knocked out two clues from the Case File. The red paper is ancient--old Creative Cafe paper. It was the perfect red for this Case File. These metal-rimmed tags have been languishing in my stash forever, and I dug them out for my journaling. I've had the Magic Mesh in my drawer at least a decade. A little goes a long way! There's another little car from the JoyRide paper. I added some teeny-tiny metal dots to the wheels. That gray background paper is American Crafts, the star paper is My Mind's Eye. The map paper was from a little scrap leftover from an October Afternoon paper. The Hello piece is from the same We R Memory Keepers set as the little Say Cheese Frame. That chipboard arrow is by MAMBI. I hope you'll come play with us. This was a super-fun Case File to solve. Come see what the rest of the team and our guest designers made here. We've got several great prizes to be won, from Carolina Ghelfi Scrapbooking, Funky Flairs Studio, The Scrapbook Store, Flying Unicorn, and Scrapbook Fantasies.
