Hi everyone! Almost the end of the month, November seems to have just disappeared. Here's my version of Tim Holtz November 12 tags of 2013. I liked the look of the chalkboard effect together with this bold sentiment stamp. I did the technique in just the same way as Tim showed for his tag. I wanted to keep the chalkboard feel of the tag and didn't add many embellishments, just some tissue tape, ribbon and die cuts. It is pretty cool how the chalk sticks to the embossing powder, and I like the extra lines here and there. It reminded me of writing on the school black board as a child. The Pumice Stone Distress Glitter covered grungeboard heart was a left over from another project. I also had a piece of mica on my desk and die cut a butterfly and arrow from the mica. They were coloured at the back with Red Pepper alcohol ink, and when it was dry, I painted them at the back with Picket Fence Distress Paint. Thank you for looking and have a lovely weekend!! I'm back with my take on Tim Holtz's August 2013 Tag. I've actually come up with two tags for this month. I have to admit this has been a lot of fun. I love traveling, stamping and coloring, so Tim's tag was right down my alley. My first tag is sheer indulgence on my part. I finally got my hands on Tim's Time Travelers stamp set and I just wanted to play with it. Since Tim's theme this month was travel, I made a Time Traveling tag. Check out the link above to see Tim's tutorial for this month's techniques. I used Pumice Stone and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink for the background on both tags. I really like the combination. I also colored both with Distress Markers and a water brush. For this tag, I toned down the black archival ink of the balloon stamped image by going over the lines with a Vintage Photo Distress Marker. I like the effect. The tag tie is made out of Grungeboard. The slide was colored with black, brown and gold alcohol inks for a rusty feel. I edged the tag with Walnut Stain. Here are some pictures of my Time Traveler Tag: My second tag is a more traditional train travel tag. I did some shadowing on here to go along with the train engine's smoke (with Pumice Stone Distress Ink and a water brush). I couldn't help but put a clock at the top of the tag. Train travel for me has always been about watching a clock. I also did a little something different with the Railroad Crossing sign. I didn't mask the train tracks underneath. I actually liked giving the sign the feel of being somewhat translucent and floating above the tracks. I also stamped it with Distress Embossing ink and used a chunky embossing powder in antique black. Take a look at some of the details of my second tag: Thanks for "traveling" with me and my Tim Holtz 2013 tags this month. Hope you enjoyed your trip :) -- Mary Elizabeth

Hi friends! Wowzer its already August. The year is going by so quickly. Today I am sharing the tag I created for the 12 Tags of 2013. I loved the masking technique Tim Holtz shared with us this month. Really fun layering without all the bulky dimension. I always look forward to his monthly tags. I love steampunk so created a bit of scene on the tag. See how the wing and ruler sit behind the spool of thread stamp. Wish I could have did a better job with the masking of the quote and ruler. Man, what a dreary day it is here weather wise. It has been a whole bag of weather here recently and none of it really resembles Spring. I think there is no better way to spend these kind of days then to get a little inky! I have always thought that envelopes are such a waste and just get thrown away so why not create something that is art itself. Instead of using a plain jane envelope that just gets thrown out, I chose to use one of Tim Holtz's new cabinet card frames as part of my card. Using the Birthday Blueprints and Mini Blueprints 4 sets I had fun colouring with my distress markers and waterbrush. It sure takes me back to my childhood because I loved to colour! Using walnut stain stickles, ink and balloon cut outs allow for dimension without adding thickness and bulk. In order to add the great dimension that this card combo has glossy accents, rock candy stickles, liquid applique and twine have been used and the balloons have been added in three layers to the cabinet card with glue n' seal and foam squares. So, despite the weather there was some nice bright art happening inside today! Thanks for stopping by and I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend! h *needing supplies...use the links below to take you to Inspiration Emporium and mention my code inkandflour and receive 10% off your order.
Happy February! Here is my take on Tim's queen of hearts tag. Although I love his stamp set, I chose to use a free printable from Martha Stewart as the anchor for my tag. I used Cherry Cobbler ink on the tag base, the ribbon and the hearts. The custom brad, key, rhinestones, woodgrain embossing folder, tag punch, rub on sentiment, other inks and cardstock are all from Stampin' Up! I covered the entire tag base with crystal effects and dried it with a heat gun to give it that textured shiny effect. The black twine and safety pin came off of a clothing tag from christmas.
Hi Everyone This month Tim Holtz did his tag with lots and lots of layers using his new stencils. My stencils arrived earlier this week and I couldn't wait to use them. I decided to do a 5 X 7 canvas instead of a tag and I am pretty happy with it, especially for my first try. This was lots of fun since I decided to do as Tim says and "embrace imperfection". I used many of my Ranger supplies including distress paint, stains and inks. The newest product that I tried out is Wendy Vecchi's Translucent Embossing Paste and I have to says I LOVE IT!!! I used it with the Rays Stencil between 2 layers of color. It dries clear revealing the color and stenciling below and then acts as a resist for any other colors added. I know I will be using this product a lot. For the words on the rays and the eye I used Remnant Rubs. This is a little out of the box for me (I know, there's a box??) but it was fun - I hope you enjoy and would love some comments.
Hi everyone! Have you seen the fun news? Tim Holtz has pre-released three dies, which will be shipping later this month: Jumbo Tattered Florals, Garden Greens and Spring Greenery. They are fantastic. The Jumbo Tattered Florals are so large that they work perfectly for a home decor project. The Tattered Floral die was one of my first Tim Holtz dies and I am happy to have a larger version now - the two also work great together. My favourite dies of the three are the two leaf dies. The leaves and leaf branches are fabulous and so useful together for many different types of projects. For my project, I made a large heart shadow box heart out of a tray I picked up at a shop for almost nothing. The flowers were inspired by the flower canvas I made for Tim's Tattered Floral challenge early this year and are made of a mix of some of my favourite materials: Wendy Vecchi's Modeling Film, sticky-back canvas and foil tape. The heart is 8 inches wide and features one of my favourite photos of my grandmother. I took step photos. Cover modeling film with natural sticky-back canvas and foil tape. Die cut flowers and leaves using the Jumbo Tattered Florals, Garden Greens and Tattered Florals Bigz die. Emboss most of the flowers in different embossing folders. I used: Dot-Matrix, Honeycomb, Damask, and Bubbles. Ink the canvas-covered flowers with Distress Inks. The embossed parts will pick up more of the ink and become darker. Heat the modeling film flowers with a heat gun, one flower at a time. On the larger flowers you have to work one section at a time because the film cools down quickly. Shape the flowers. Be careful not to burn yourself. Try not to reheat the flower because then the embossing might disappear. The Modeling Film keeps its shape perfectly. Paint the metallic flowers with Distress Paints (Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Broken China). When the paint is almost, but not completely, dry, wipe with a cloth to remove paint from the embossed parts. Paint the flowers with watered-down brown paint and wipe most of it off. Heat them one at a time with a heat gun. Be extra careful not to burn yourself, because the metal makes the flowers hotter. Die cut Spring Greenery from old book paper. I used a book about gardening. I also die cut tattered flowers from tulle. The heart was painted with two coats of gesso and then with Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap and just a little bit of Walnut Stain. I stamped it with a script and a butterfly stamp, using Stazon ink. The edges were stamped with this great text stamp by Tim Holtz. Layer canvas and foil flowers, adding tulle flowers here and there. When you are happy with the arrangement, glue them together. I used hot glue. The smallest flowers at the front were attached together with a brad, but the full flower is too thick for a brad. Layer two smaller flowers and attach with a brad. Adhere the flowers and text leaves to the background. Tuck the leaves in here and there. The Modeling Film gives great dimension to the leaves and flowers. The mix of canvas and foil together with the various dry embossed patterns makes for a very interesting and tactile flower. Remember to ask you local craft shop to pre-order the dies. You can also pre-order them at Simon Says Stamp: Jumbo Tattered Florals, Garden Greens, Spring Greenery, to make sure you get them quickly and before everyone else. Thank you for looking!! Be sure to check out the Sizzix blog to see all the gorgeous projects created by the DT members using these dies. Happy Crafting! Hi everyone! Today I am sharing my versions of Tim Holtz 12 tags of 2013 August. I love masking techniques and how much dimension you can get on a flat surface with these techniques. I made two tags. For the first tag, I used London images from the Paris to London set, which I hadn't inked up yet. The background was done with Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap and Victorian Velvet Distress Stain. Big Ben, the man, the car and the crown on top of the car were all masked. I don't have Tim's masking sheets, instead I used Eclipse tape. The flag was perfect for stamping with markers, since it looks really good stamped in red and blue. For the rest of the background stamping I used a shipping stamp, partly because I travelled by boat twice to go and visit London. It was inked with Barn Door, Faded Jeans and Black Soot distress markers. I also used a postage stamp. 'London' was first inked with Frayed Burlap and then I dragged a Black Soot marker around the edges before stamping, which is a fun technique to do with these types of bold stamps. I also added a game spinner. The tiny tag was die cut from mat board, inked and a Chit Chat sticker was adhered on top. On the second tag, I travelled to Paris. The background was done with Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap and Brushed Pewter Distress Stain. The Eiffel Tower and the hot-air balloon were masked and a Paris text stamp, a fleur-de-lie, a postage stamp and Bon Voyage were stamped on top, with Barn Door, Faded Jeans and Black Soot Distress Markers. The background was inked with Frayed Burlap, Walnut Stain and Fired Brick. After removing the mask, I added some ink between the ropes of the balloon, so that it would look more natural, another option would have been to have masked the basket and the balloon separately. I love the look of the masked flag and how it stands out from the background. The tag was die cut from mat board and inked. I also added a little clothes hanger. The Eiffel Tower really looks dimensional and not as if it is part of the same one layer tag. A metallic fleur-de-lie finished the tag. Here are both tags together. Thank you for stopping by!! Hello Blog Friends It is that time again, Tim has done four tags this month which you can see HERE. For once, I actually had two sets of the stamps he used, but for those who follow me regularly, you will know that I am totally obsessed with the Chemist set of stamps, see here and here to see how I used it, so I just had to include him. I have made two tags, as you can see here (click on the photos for a better view): I won't go into too much detail as I basically followed Tim's tutorial and did lots of masking. The tag on the left represents a wonderful holiday we had in Canada a few years ago, when we went on a fabulous steam train journey in British Columbia. It is one holiday we would love to repeat over and over - nothing exotic or tropical for us! The word band says 'Enjoy the Journey' - we certainly did. The base is coloured with Broken China and Frayed Burlap Distress Stains. For my chemist (have I said how much I love this stamp set?) I used Tea Dye and Broken China Distress Stains. This set is ideal for masking, the stamps are quite large. The word band says 'life is about creating yourself' - I have visions of a mad chemist trying to re-create another being in his laboratory..... is that better or worse than selling arsenic to a lovely steampunk lady? I think it will be an ideal stamp set for Halloween creations. I know he does not really fit the - where would you love to travel to theme - but Tim did say we could just use stamps that are our current favourites - this is certainly my current favourite. But I didn't stop there, I created two more tags because I was enjoying rediscovering masking so much. I was not quite so happy with these, the butterfly one does not really show off the masking as well as I would like and I think the airplane one is perhaps a bit too bright, although I made sure the airplane was flying over North America to represent our visit to Canada again. Still, the tags will not be wasted..... I can't wait to see what Tim comes up with us for next month. I really hope he enjoys his trip to the UK this week too and that he will keep coming back again and again (please!). Just sorry I will not be there this time but hopefully friends say hello for me and will take lots of photos and I will be watching Mario's BTS. Thanks so much for looking! Take care and I hope you are enjoying some crafty time. Big hugs, Anne xx
How about another sample from the show? I think this might be one of my favourites. Last week was the first time I got my hands on some of the Tim Holtz Kraft Glassine paper, I’ve been curious about the stuff but just hadn’t had a go at it. I’m very glad it was included […]
For Tim Holtz's June tag was the watercolour techniques using Distress Markers this means buying a new range of mediums and they don't keep cheap. Few places like CountryViewCrafts and ArtisttradingPost sell each Marker individually. I must admit this was one was struggle as not proficient in watercolours and this is my second attempt. First one was fine I was miffed that colours were blending immediately. I need more practise in this technique and just because something is hard doesn't mean you can't try or do. Loads of people say they can't draw then just practise. Drawing is second nature to me as I used to draw just monsters and dragons in my childhood days. I think I have cracked the non wrinkle technique you just spread enough of each colour to fit the size of card. Tim used one of each Distress range Paint, Ink and Stains. The background is stamped in Archival Ink: Jet Black in PSX and various Paperartsy time. Despite the initial hurdle I had fun time making this tag.

Happy Saturday bloggers!! Today we are so excited to have Tammy Tutterow on the blog with a beautiful fall themed …
It seems like ages since I played in a CC3C adventure conducted by Linda and the Curiosity Crew, but made it for the current "Remnant Rub Resist" challenge! All the lessons can be found in Tim's Compendium of Curiosities III and as always the details can be found there on page 51. The Funkie Junkie Boutique is the fabulous sponsor this challenge and again there is a prize to be won via the CC choice from Tim and Mario. Following the instructions, I decided to go with a blend of Peeled Paint, Wild Honey and Broken China stains to color my background. I used a variety of stamps from Tim, added a word band and some Alpha Letters. The tie was dyed using the same stains. This was a fun playtime and I will add this to my travel journal. We are playing a trip to Wisconsin very soon and I can see the weather is getting cold and there may be snow! Not quite what us CA folks are used to! Yikes! Have a wonderful day and thank you for visiting today!

Happy Friday! Today I am sharing my version of Tim Holtz 12 tags of 2013 February. I still need to do the January tag too, which I missed doing since I was away. I used Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry and Barn Door Distress Stain for the background. When dry, I stamped it with the Art text stamp from Classics #4. using Barn Door ink. After just having done some Valentine's projects, I felt like something different and since I am waiting for the new Blueprint stamps to arrive in my post box, I used the dragonfly stamp on the Classics #1 set instead, which is also a sketchy type of stamp, similar to the blueprints. It was stamped on the tag with Archival Jet Black, and then I happened to find a piece of acetate on which I had stamped the dragonfly for another project, with Stazon white ink. I decided to layer it on top of the black stamping, placing it a little bit to the side to create a shadow. The dragonfly was stamped on watercolour paper and watercoloured coloured with Peacock Feathers and Iced Spruce. I used the same inks to colour the circle label. I coloured a second circle label with Shabby Shutters and adhered it together with a ChitChat sticker under the acetate. I made my own epoxy type tag, by die cutting a circle tag from grungeboard, painting it silver and gluing the circle label from the stamp on top. I rubbed the ink with Judikins MicroGlaze since I didn't want the two shades of teal to blend when Glossy Accents was applied on top. A chitchat sticker was placed in the center and then I coated it with Glossy Accents. A strip of green kraft-core cardstock was embossed with a grass folder, sanded and inked. The little ticket was stamped on a piece of scrap paper. Thank you for looking! Happy stamping!
