There are six levels of validation in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which promote an environment where people feel accepted and understood. As much as possible, we should use the highest level of validation in any given situation. The first level is about showing interest and being present while the sixth level is radical genuineness. The DBT 6 Levels Of Validation worksheet asks clients to engage in reflection and describe a scenario where validation would be helpful. For each level of validation, they can brainstorm ways to show support to a friend or loved one going through a difficult experience. Kids and teens answering the worksheet can practice articulating their responses, which helps them develop their communication skills and have healthier relationships. Feel free to pair this worksheet with our DBT 6 Levels of Validation handout which serves as a practical resource on the topic. *This item is an instant digital download. For most private practice therapists, marketing is a foreign endeavor, shrouded in mystery and bad vibes. In reality, marketing is just about offering your services. Not forcing or controlling. Just offering. But where to start? Here’s a checklist where you can start.
Validation in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) means acknowledging another person’s thoughts, emotions, and experiences. There are six levels of validation, and the purpose of these different levels is to allow others to feel understood no matter what they’re going through or how they present themselves. The DBT 6 Levels of Validation handout starts by explaining the purpose of the handout. It features a pyramid representing each level and suggests how to put each level into practice. For example, the lowest level, which is to “Show Interest and Be Present” suggests practicing active listening when interacting with others. Using this handout helps kids and teens improve their interpersonal interactions by showing that they are accepting and listening non-judgmentally. Caring adults can model validation by giving their undivided attention when their child communicates their concerns in school and other areas of their lives. This handout pairs well with our 6 Levels Of Validation Worksheet, which provides an opportunity to practice each of the 6 levels of validation techniques. *This item is an instant digital download. What’s in a name? When we name a child, we buy books, debate, practice the sound, and then finally after often fighting with our spouse, friends, and/or family, we land on the name of our child. They then become that; they would never be anything but that. It fits. It is who they are. When […]

Decatastrophizing is a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) technique designed to challenge and alter catastrophic thinking patterns, which can reduce emotional distress. Identifying thoughts related to worst-case scenarios — e.g. “I made a mistake, and I’m going to get fired” — and questioning them can help clients develop a more realistic outlook in life. The Decatastrophizing CBT Handout serves as a practical tool for clients to recognize when they might be catastrophizing. It begins by defining this technique and then offers tips to practice it, such as challenging their initial thought and considering other possible outcomes. Using this handout allows kids and teens to cope more effectively and build their resilience. A helpful tip for parents is to make decatastrophizing a regular part of their child’s routine. For instance, they can place this helpful Challenging Negative Thoughts poster on their wall as a reminder. This handout is included in our CBT Handouts Bundle along with common cognitive distortions, CBT techniques, and psychoeducation. *This item is an instant digital download. As a sensitive person inside and out, it can sometimes be difficult to process, articulate, and perform emotions in a rational way. To be quite honest, the thought of controlling my emotions seems more of an afterthought than a process. (Un)Fortunately, I am not alone in having difficulties understanding the basis of my emotions. Is it internal or is it provoked by something in my environment? When one does not understand the root or cause of an emotion it becomes almost impossible to find a solution that effectively works long-term. Luckily we live in the 21st century where the Internet can help lead you to information that will help. I came cross the terminology of "emotional equations" while doing my daily Pinterest scroll. "Emotional Equations" offer a way to identify and rationalize the things that we will. It will can help further assist in practicing self-awareness. Chip Conley is a leading researcher in the study of emotional equations. He has scripted books, presented at conferences and lectures, and even provided simple infographics to help explain how we arrive at our emotions. How to process your emotions?
