Free planting templatesI often find getting started is the hardest part of many projects. I was recently reminded how true that is for gardening when a Master Gardener from Newport News wrote to me about a fantastic project she is working on with her fellow gardeners: a "Getting Started" kit tailored specifically to Virginia coastal gardens. This sounds like a terrific idea and I hope to be able to share it when it is ready for prime time. In the meantime, her note jogged my memory about anoth

I like using Gerald McDermott's Native American folktales to teach the Common Core literature standards. The trickster tales are always a delight!

Here is another Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) this time displaying the blue wing colouring and the unusual red and black bars on the tail. They are members of the kingfisher family and therefore voracious feeders. They tend to eat insects, worms and crustaceans, but will also eat small snakes, mammals, frogs and bird hatchlings. I have observed more than once Kookaburras trying to tap through nests in walls to get at hatchlings but have yet to see one succeed. View Large And On Black

Nature has always been a key element in artist Aleksandra Zee’s life. The Laguna Beach native spent her childhood oceanside, of course (it shows in her permanently sun-kissed mane), not just surfing and swimming, but also drawing and painting.“When I was a teenager, I realized that if I didn’t have...
****Archived and transplanted from my old blog**** As a new homeschooling mom in the modern world I honestly feel blessed. Not only by the wonderful moms and teachers who go out of their way to create worksheets, lessons plans and crafts but also the fact that they share their knowledge and wisdom online for those of us who find ourselves clueless on where to start with all of this. And as someone who has been blessed with the gift of drawing and is moderately tech savvy I want to share resources with you guys as well. This month we are focusing our geography lesson on North America and our history lesson on mainly the Native Americans and some on the early European settlers this is the first month I feel like I have a solid lesson plan worked out and I am already a little bit ahead of the curve. I took some time last week to design this teepee template that was a simple and fun craft that my daughter (age 5), my niece (age 7), and my nephew (age 10) all enjoyed doing it. The link to the print is available down below. Enjoy!
