The Ling Six Sound Test was created by Daniel Ling as a quick method to help verify that a child’s hearing technology (such as a cochlear implant and/or hearing aid) is functioning properly. It’s a behavioral (low-tech) way to know if a child is currently able to hear the spectrum of English sounds (pitch and loudness) in conversational speech, which is critical for language and academic learning. It also helps parents and professionals that work daily with a child have a basis for reporting the child’s speech perception abilities (and any possible changes) to the audiologist.
