Happy Saturday Friends! How is your weekend going so far? Today marks the first day of my fall break and I am so excited to enjoy a week off! I have two days of a digital leadership conference, plenty of TpT things to catch up on, sleeping in, going to the beach, catching up with friends and family and a ton of yard work. Now that I think of it, that doesn't sound like much of a break. I wanted to start of my break by sharing with you something my 5th graders look forward to every day! I call it my Daily Graffiti Wall. I got the idea from Miss 5th over in IG. Every day I post some kind of question on the board and the kids get to answer it. It's so simple, yet so engaging! They look forward to it every morning when they walk in. Here are some of the pictures from my wall! If you want to see some more posts from me, make sure you follow me on IG. Don't forget to follow Miss 5th too! She has some great posts! I hope you all have a great weekend!
Adventures of the First Christian Missionaries Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he gave his disciples a mission. These men and women went from being just Jesus' friends and followers to also being his not-so-secret agents. As God’s agents, they were tasked with telling everyone the good news of how much God loves the world. Even today, those who follow Jesus are his agents, on that same mission – to share the good news of Jesus with the world. In Not So Secret Agents, kids will learn that our faith in Jesus should not be kept a secret. _______ Not So Secret Agents Children's Ministry Curriculum Lesson Overview Memory Verse: “I am not ashamed of the good news. It is God’s power. And it will save everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16a (NIrV) Lessons: Your Mission. . . Scripture: Acts 1:3-12, The Mission Before he ascended into heaven, Jesus gave his disciples a mission: to share the gospel throughout the world. That not-so-secret assignment is still the mission of every believer living today. Objective: Kids will learn that our assignment is to share the good news of Jesus. . . . If You Choose To Accept It Scripture: Acts 2:1-18, 38-47, Pentecost Jesus had given the disciples a special mission, to share the gospel throughout the world. However, we can’t complete this mission by our own abilities. Jesus gave his followers the Holy Spirit, to help them on their mission. If we want to carry out God’s mission for our life, we have to first accept his free gift of salvation and receive the Holy Spirit. Only with the Holy Spirit’s help can we accomplish God’s plan for our life. Objective: Kids will learn God gives us the Holy Spirit to help us on our assignment. Fall Into Enemy Hands Scripture: Acts 6:1-15; 7:51-60, The Stoning of Stephen Stephen shared the good news of Jesus boldly. This angered the religious leaders of the city, and they decided to stone him. Even when facing death, Stephen lived and spoke the good news. Objective: Kids will learn that the Holy Spirit gives us the strength to face even the most difficult challenges. Fast Getaway Scripture: Acts 8:1-25, The Church is Scattered As more people started to believe in Jesus, those in authority in Jerusalem tried to stop it. They began to persecute the Christians. Their plan backfired, as Christians left Jerusalem, they traveled far and wide sharing the gospel with everyone. Objective: Kids will learn that God can work out even the worst situations for something good. Hit the Road Scripture: Acts 8:26-39, Philip and the Ethiopian God had a special mission for Philip – travel the road going from Jerusalem to Gaza. There, Philip met an Ethiopian man who was reading scripture, but did not understand what he was reading. Philip was able to explain the good news of Jesus to him, and lead him to become a follower of Jesus. Objective: Kids will learn that God can use us to share the good news anytime, anywhere, to anyone. Not-So-Top Secret Scripture: Acts 10:9-35, Peter and Cornelius The first people to believe the good news of Jesus were Jewish. But God's plan was for all peoples on earth to know the good news. God delivered a vision to Peter, to show him this truth. Peter then shared the good news with a man named Cornelius, who became one of the first non-Jewish men to put his faith in Jesus. Objective: Kids will learn that the good news is for everyone, even those we don't think deserve it. Secret Weapon Scripture: Acts 12:1-17, Peter's Escape from Prison Herod had ordered Peter arrested for sharing the good news of Jesus, and intended to have him killed. But Peter had a secret weapon – God was on his side. Peter walked out of the prison, unharmed, and ready to continue sharing the good news. Objective: Kids will learn that God can do what seems impossible to us. Undercover Scripture: Acts 14:8-22, In Lystra and Derbe When Paul healed a crippled man, the people thought Paul and Barnabas were gods undercover. But Paul and Barnabas never lost sight of where their power truly came from: Jesus Christ. Objective: Kids will learn that in all things, we should give God the glory. _______ Each Lesson Includes: Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything. Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!" Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest. Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!) Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson. Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together! Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor. Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :( More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans. Whew! The first week is behind me and NOW I am ready for some fun with my precious second graders! They have already amazed and inspired me with how excited they are about learning. Their sweet determination and contagious spirit make my job that much MORE enjoyable each day! Love them already! Last week, we spent the majority of our time getting to know one another, building team spirit and most importantly getting our classroom into a routine {ahhhhh....yes...it is TIME for a routine AGAIN!} I began the week by having the students introduce their classmates. I thought that by placing the students in charge of introducing their "teammates" {a.k.a. classmates}, they would take initiative to really get to know one another. I was a little hesitant and knew that this would be a hit or a miss. Well....it was a definite HIT! The students did such an amazing job. I paired the students with a buddy teammate. The students used the Celebrity Interview sheet to record information about their teammate. As we all came back to the carpet, each student introduced his/her teammate by turning the information collected into complete sentences. {I was totally impressed!} BUT...the kicker was the students dressed up as celebrities prior to presenting. I had feather boas, hats, sunglasses, fake diamond rings {BLING! BLING!} and large necklaces. The students just couldn't get enough of it! They introduced their classmate in center stage and had a blast! I so wish that I could share pictures of my silly kids, but I am still waiting on my parent's approval to place their pictures for all to see! To grab this swag {celebrity interview sheet}, click on the picture below! This activity went perfectly with my Rock Star Profiles. Here is that download one more time! We added a little ribbon and had the perfect VIP All Access Pass! I wanted to get a little academic work in just to get some idea of my student's writing ability {after two months of summer vacay}. To tie right in with our Rock Star theme, I had the students write about things that make them "Reel" happy. I was totally inspired by this little picture that I saw on Pinterest. I went straight to ETSY and downloaded these cute little smiles. {Click here if you've just GOT to have them!} I took pictures of each of my students with their smiles and they created their own "Smile Reel." They then wrote a paragraph about things that make them "REEL" happy! Each student presented their writing in center stage as we cheered them on! Such a silly activity that definitely kept the giggles going! You can click on the two pictures below to download the writing prompt paper and the reel for student pictures! Last but not least, I really pushed classroom unity and teamwork this week. I want my students to understand that in order to reach our potential, we must all work together as one classroom family. Amanda over at One Extra Degree has an amazing idea for a classroom promise activity that I incorporated into my character education plans this past week. {Check her out HERE} Such a fun week filled with memories for my students! Check back soon for our Second Grade Rocks Song! Due to the fact that my classroom has an overwhelming amount of Bieber Fever...I created a song that we sing each morning to the tune of one of his famous hits! I think they would sing this song all day....every day! They even asked to sing it in the halls! :) Time to get ready for another week on Full Blast! Happy Sunday Friends! For those of you who have requested the number line with negative numbers...here ya go! :) Click HERE to download!

I love that there are so many engaging themes to use this time of year that are considered "creepy," but aren't necessarily Halloween-oriented and can be used completely unrelated to the holiday. Take the skeletal system, for instance! There's something totally spooky about learning about bones, but you don't have to relate it to Halloween, right?! It's a great October theme and one that your students will FOR SURE love. ((( All resources linked at the bottom of the post! ))) First off, here are some of my favorite nonfiction texts that are great for teaching about bones and the skeletal system. They're ideal for students in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. There's PLENTY of science found within this theme. From teaching about the different bones, to the way the hand works, to understanding why calcium is so important for bone health! Lots to learn for sure! How fun is this STEM activity?! Your students will explore just why bones are so important to the body using playdoh and plastic drinking straws. What a better way to reinforce the importance of bone health than by having a little flavored milk taste test?! Washi tape art *might* be one of my ...

Hi, I'm Lindsay and I'm obsessed with anchor charts! Yes...it's really an obsession. I have a WHOLE classroom wall dedicated to anchor charts. I'm not sure if its because I like to draw, or make them look cutesy, or pretend I'm cool like Cara...but it's true. I love anchor charts! Here are a few I made this past week to use for instruction. Logic Lineups are a great way for students to practice and understand spatial words, follow directions, and work as a team to solve a problem. This PowerPoint-based activity has four adorable Thanksgiving- themed characters that find themselves in the middle of six engaging puzzles for students to solve. I have included a "How to Play" slide, as well as suggestions on game variations. Character cards are part of the PowerPoint and just need to be printed, cut, and laminated for durability. Lots of fun to be had with this activity! I have used this activity with students as young as 2nd grade and as old as 12th grade and haven't found a group yet that doesn't love Logic Line-ups. *A DIGITAL OPTION HAS BEEN INCLUDED FOR GOOGLE SLIDES AND FORMS/GOOGLE CLASSROOM* Be sure to re-download! There are directions and links inside the pdf. About this Resource: This resource is a unique way to get your students warmed up in the morning. The math is aligned to 3rd grade Common Core Standards and meant to be a review. This set contains 5 weeks of Fall-themed math morning work for the month of September. The problems are thematic around Back to School, Fall, Apples, and September holidays (Labor Day, September 11th, National Honey Month). The morning work is focused on Math with a sprinkle of Science, a pinch of grammar, and a dash of Daily/Weekly Updates to keep your students engaged and open doors for conversations. Please note that because this is the beginning of the year, much of the math is 2nd grade review and will progressively get more complicated as the year goes on. Each week follows the same routine. The focus for each day was created based on fundamental needs we noticed in our 3rd and 4th grade classrooms: Multiplication & Division, Number Sense, & Fractions (including Fractions & Decimals). While these are not the only areas addressed, they are the main focus. Each week follows the same routine and structure.*Mathematician Monday- Problems are centered around Multiplication and Division. Later in the year Mathematician Monday will turn into Multiplication Monday.*Base Ten Tuesday- All about the Base of our Number System. These problems are centered around our number system and place value. *Wordless Wednesday- No Word Problems! Students have 3 problems without words.*Throwback Thursday- Review Day! Other days may offer a review problem, but Thursdays have problems that may come from 2nd grade or the beginning of the year. I also added problems from other standards such as Measurement, Data, and Geometry. *Fraction Fun Friday- Nothing says Fun Friday like Fractions! There is always a need to review fractions. By keeping it short, sweet and including a fun personal question, this may help build your students’ confidence in fractions while also keeping it fresh. I created this resource because I saw a need to continuously review these key areas. By following this same structure each week, students know what to expect while they are also building their confidence in these essential math areas. I have also found several other benefits from this morning work routine: *Routine!-My students knew exactly what to do when they come in the classroom. Also, if I needed a few extra minutes due to meetings or other housekeeping duties, I knew my students were spending that time working on essential math skills, not just “busy work.” The morning work is meant to be short and sweet, skill practice, plus engaging. There are only a few problems so it shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes. This will also let you know if students are still having difficulty with a certain skill.Fewer Copies- Only one sheet of paper for the whole week! (Copy front and back)*A Weekly Grade- My students know this and do not want to do the work for homework or have a poor grade. This helped get them started right away in the morning. I also go over the problems each morning and allowed students to fix their work before turning it in. In my opinion, this is beneficial because it keeps the students engaged as we go over it, ESPECIALLY if they had difficulty with it. This was also beneficial for students because if they paid attention and “added on to their thinking,” they can earn a good grade that will be added weekly. For students that already struggle, this is confidence building and motivating. 🛑 Are you a member of the TLL Membership? These materials are already included.
