A hardback copy of Constance Howard's Inspiration for Embroidery, published by Batsford. Fifith Impression 1970. Constance Howard was an English textile artist and embroidress who encouraged the use of new techniques in her students at Goldsmiths London, where she taught for many years-one of her students was Mary Quant. This book was written for people with a good working knowledge of embroidery, but who have had little design experience. A book to inspire with over 300 drawings and photographs. A well as numerous sketches of design ideas there are photos of work completed by other embroiderers illustrating how ideas can be interpreted. This is a wonderful inspirational book intended for someone who wishes to develop their embroidery design skills. I have taken photos of the chapter headings so that you can see the breadth of the subject covered. The book is 240 pages long. It measures approx 25.5 x 19 cm. The content is very clean and good as is the bright blue cloth cover. The dust jacket is slightly creased. A joy of a reference book for anyone interested in embroidery and textile design.

Karen Suzuki is a practicing textile artist, currently working in Glasgow, Scotland. Originally she trained as a ceramicist before experiencing textiles. We see how skills can be merged together as her work has a sculptural tone and is often inspired by pottery sources such as Staffordshire sculptures. She works with hand embroidery to create her creatures, which are mostly stuffed and set as 3D pieces rather than flat works. Her work has been featured in the Batsford published book 'Be creative with textile art'.
