The Study Skills Curriculum was developed based on an identified need expressed by Resource Specialists and intervention teachers. Although, many of these teachers offered \"Study Skills\" classes to support students with work completion from a designated staff, the students' levels of organization and independence did not show significant improvement. The Study Skills Curriculum is the answer to the expressed needs of teachers to systematically teach executive functioning skills, organizational skills, increased independence and improved overall student behavior. The long-term result of systematic instruction in these areas is greater success in school and as adults. All of the lessons in this curriculum were derived from the concepts found in the popular book Learning the ROPES for Improved Executive Functioning Skills (Schetter 2003). Each of the seven units begins with an objective followed by lessons which are broken down into activities to build students executive functioning skills. Instructional forms and bonus forms are avaible to download. All other required materials are listed in each unit. The Scope and Sequence section of this curriculum provides an overview of all the lessons and activities. A year long program may be developed from the Scope and Sequence making The Study Skills Curriculum easy to understand and to implement.

Do your students struggle with sequencing? Often times, students are asked to read a paragraph or short story and sequence a set of pictures based on what they've read. This only allows for one correct answer and can cause frustration to those students who always seem to get one picture out of order. In pairing sequencing with writing, students are given more opportunities for success! Students get to decide the order they think makes the most logical sense. As long as students can explain the order they chose in a way that makes sense their answer is correct (even if their order is different from a classmate's order). ★★★ Digital Version of this product is available HERE ★★★ For example, on picture set A below, most students will put the ingredients first, the oven second and the pie last and explain that, "first you mix the ingredients, next you put the pie in the oven to bake and last you take the pie out and eat it". However, some students may put the oven first, then the ingredients, and the pie last. If in their explanation they write, “first you preheat the oven, next you mix the ingredients and last you bake the pie” this would also be an acceptable answer. On picture set I, students may explain, "first I get out an ice cream cone, next I scoop the ice cream" or vice versa. As you can see there can be multiple correct answers. Students are also challenged to explain their thinking while working on improving their writing skills! Use this center as a fun review for students. Students order the picture card sets in sequential order: first, next and last and then write a sentence describing each picture on the wipe off mat. Use a 9"x12" manila envelope with a clasp to store the center. This center comes with 26 picture card sets and 4 blank sets. There is also an optional recording page if you want to grade student responses. ★ Buy my Writing Center Bundle and save 20%! ★ List of Sorts: Set A: Baking a Pie Set B: Worm Eating an Apple Set C: Filling a Cornucopia Set D: A Disappearing Pie (less pieces as it is eaten) Set E: The Gingerbread Man Story Set F: Making Jelly Toast Set G: Going to School, Learning and Graduating Set H: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Set I: Building an Ice Cream Cone Set J: Mouse Painting a Picture Set K: Frog Life Cycle Set L: Eggs (Chicks) Hatching Set M: Caterpillar Eating a Strawberry Set N: Caterpillar Turning into a Butterfly Set O: Making Lemonade Set P: Picking Flowers Set Q: Raking Leaves Set R: Sleep, Wake Up, Go Play Set S: Picking Apples Set T: Playing in the Rain Set U: Decorating a Christmas Tree Set V: Planting Flowers Set W: Building a Snowman Set X: Baking Cookies Set Y: Playing Basketball/Shooting a Basket Set Z: Painting a Picture Sets AA-DD: Blank Sets for Students to Create their Own Sequencing Sorts!
