Part of the 'Yorkshire Critters' group of craftsmen, Colin Almack (who sadly died in 1996) was trained under the famous Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson' at his workshops in Kilburn, Yorkshire. He left in 1960 to set up his own business. In keeping with his early apprenticeship, he obviously needed his own mark. A beaver was chosen and Beaver Furniture was set up. As was his nickname 'beaverman'. Here we have a 1960's tea trolley. Of three-tier form with carved supports ending in castors. And obviously with his famous carved beaver trademark. Made form solid english oak. A must have for the collectors obviously. But it's also a wonderfully functional piece, so would look good in any home. with an added back story to boot to entertain guests with! This piece has an attribution mark, I am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution less
Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1936, the Tea trolley is one of his most recognisable and iconic designs. It was inspired by British tea culture, which Aino and Alvar Aalto had become acquainted with through their many travels, as well as by the Japanese woodwork and architecture they admired. With a frame composed of two birch lamella loops, Tea Trolley 901 features two shelves and a solid birch handle. Twin oversized wheels in combination with the lightweight quality of birch means the trolley can be easily manoeuvred and parked at will. The 901 design features a lacquered birch frame and top edges and wheels with black rubber treads that won't mark floors, with shelves finished in either laminate or linoleum. After delving into Artek's archives, Dutch designer and colour specialist Hella Jongerius has created a new colour combination for Artek. Her subtle interventions resulted in a 'dark' version of the trolley - a black lacquered birch frame with a peat linoleum top shelf and a charcoal linoleum bottom shelf. While the upper tray of the Trolley fully catches the light, the lower level always remains in shadow. This effect was accentuated by using different colours for the respective levels. Besides being an impressive and classic way to serve tea, the Tea Trolley 901 can also be used as a portable home bar or a place to display your favourite objects.

Alvar Aalto's Tea Trolleys serve as highly functional and distinctive additions to a dining room or hospitality area. Introduced at the 1937 Paris World's Fair, they are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Recognised today as one of the great masters of modern architecture, Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) was born in Kuortane, Finland. During a long and prolific career, Aalto designed buildings for almost all key public institutions, as well as standardised housing and private homes. One of the co-founders of Artek, Aalto left a legacy with lasting resonance. Aalto’s architecture is distinctively Finnish, strongly individual, and marked by a warm humanity. His buildings derive their aesthetic character from their dynamic relationship with their natural surroundings, their human scale, superbly executed details, unique treatment of materials, and ingenious use of lighting. Aalto began designing furnishings as a natural extension of his architectural thinking. His first modern piece of furniture was created in 1931-1932 for the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, Finland. Artek was set up in 1935 to market and sell his and his wife Aino’s furniture, lighting, and textiles, particularly on international markets. Through his innovations in form and line, Alvar Aalto’s name has also become important in the history of design. In fact, Aalto first achieved fame in Continental Europe as a furniture designer, and only later as an architect. His contribution to furniture design was among his foremost achievements in its own right. Aalto’s furniture and lighting form the heart of the Artek range. Jo Nagasaka’s fresh approach to traditional Japanese craft is renowned for its novel and contemporary expression. Thus, the Tokyo-based architect and designer was a natural partner for Artek’s FIN/JPN Friendship collection. Nagasaka set out to apply his research on surface treatments to Artek’s beloved classics. Experimenting with the age-old practices of Udukuri and Tsugaru-nuri, Nagasaka merges them into his own original process, resulting in what he calls ColoRing. Materials: frame in lamella-bent birchwood, clear lacquered, handle solid birch, clear lacquered, shelves with solid birch edge and pine top-veneer with ColoRing finish, wheels white lacquered with black rubber ring. Special FI/JP labelling in 2019. Variant: ColoRing red/turquoise.
