This active and somewhat wacky game is perfect for reinforcement of any skill that requires practice or skill drill! This resource includes the open-ended version of the game (for mixed groups and any skill) as well as decks for addressing /r/, vocalic r, and /r/ blends in speech therapy. Perfect for PreK-8th graders! DOWNLOAD the preview for a much closer look! WHAT YOU'LL GET ► four decks of cards: An open-ended version of SPLAT (54 open-ended cards) An /r/ version of SPLAT (23 artic cards) A vocalic r version of SPLAT (49 artic cards) An /r/ blends version of SPLAT! (54 artic cards) Detailed instructions with photos for making this DIY game. *You will need a Pringles can or soda/water bottle to play the game!* HOW TO PLAY: To play, set a timer for the amount of time you have to play, or stop play when the session is over. Place your chosen deck facedown on the table. The object of the game is to stack cards carefully without making any go SPLAT! Players that knock down cards must take them. At the end of play (either when the session ends, the timer rings or there are no more cards to play), the player with the MOST cards is the loser and the player with the LEAST cards is the winner. For the open-ended game, have your students perform any skill of your choosing the desired number of times, then allow them to pick a card. For the sound-specific decks, have students say the word/picture on the card they pick X number of times (or make a phrase or sentence about it). If students pick an articulation card, they should practice it at whatever level of the articulation hierarchy they're at, and then place it carefully on top of the can (which I call a tower). If it stays there, their turn is over. If that card or any other cards go SPLAT (falls off the tower), that player must take all cards that fell. If a student picks a “splat challenge” card they must follow the directions on the card. The same procedures apply. This is the entertaining part of the game! Play with the lid on the can for an easy game, without the lid for a bigger challenge, or swap the Pringles with a full water bottle for the ultimate challenge! ✂️ Prep The four decks are easy to prep and they store neatly right inside the Pringles can when you aren’t using them. Just print, cut out the cards, follow directions for prep, and play! NEED MORE ARTICULATION ACTIVITIES? See all of mine HERE. Check out MORE versions of SPLAT! ✱ Articulation SPLAT!
