How much do I love cardamom? Very, very, very, very, very, very, very much. I don’t like to play favorites with my spices, but lately cardamom has been making an appearance in everything I’m able to sneak it into. Its aroma is so fragrant and sultry it almost feels like cheating. Cardamom pairs well with almost everything too. […]
Here's how to make a tasty sweet and sour herbal remedy using rose petals, apple cider vinegar, and honey.
Spring has not sprung in Brooklyn–not at all. However, as winter marches on and the days slowly become longer, the garden begins to beckon. Nature’s ancient power will not be denied. My gar…

An advance copy of Matt Lee and Ted Lee's latest cookbook, The Lee Bros. Charleston Kitchen , landed on my desk a few weeks ago, and I was so charmed by its clever, minimalist cover that rather than tossing it atop the teetering pile of new releases that regularly threatens to take over my desk, I kicked my heels up and gave it a thorough browse. Or at least, that was the plan; instead, I found myself stopped in my tracks on page 34, where the genius Lees present a recipe for kumquat-infused gin—and a selection of inspired cocktails in which to use it. I can finally […]

I’ll be judging my second cocktail competition this weekend with Griffo Distillery! Their second annual cocktail competition is on Sunday April 16th from 3pm-6pm. It comes a day before tax day so I am sure we could all use a drink then! Griffo is a local distillery located in Petaluma. They have a variety of delicious spirits ranging from gin, aged gin, whiskey, and coffee liqueur. I will be judging along with other rad females Virginia Miller of A Perfect Spot and Phaedra Achor of Monarch Bitters. In order to get to know their spirits more ahead of the competition this weekend, I mixed up this Flora and Juniper cocktail using Griffo Gin. Their Scott Street gin is distilled with almost all local and organic botanicals in pot still and distilled in a single run. They do get their juniper from Italy, giving it a spicer notes then local California juniper that lends more floral notes. The meyer lemon really comes through on the nose while coming in subtle on the palate rounded out by the coriander and punch of juniper. I made a sour by adding spicy, sweet cardamom syrup, tart hibiscus tea, lemon, rose water and egg white to the Griffo […]

Semlor are Swedish bread rolls. They’re traditionally eaten around Lent and they’re common in different variations around Scandinavia. The traditional Swedish version commonly has almond paste and whipped cream, but Molly infuses hers with rose since almond and rose pair so well together. These pillowy cardamom spiced buns filled with sticky almond paste and a cloud of pink floral whipped cream are delightfully whimsical!
These are the most fragrant rose varieties that boast both colorful blooms and fabulous floral aromas.
This week’s installation of The Seasonal Bouquet Project was very much inspired in the moment as I walked around the field. The hoop house is literally overflowing with heavenly sweet peas in all shades of pink, especially “watermelon”. I cut big handfuls and went in search of blooms to coordinate. The David Austin roses were …
