In the genus Styrax are 100 or so species of shrubs, some evergreen, from the woods and thickets of Europe, Asia, and North America.

This drought adapted Snowbell always serves as a reminder to me of the very special place billions of years of evolution have gifted us. Like a sailor marooned, this is one of the connecting elements left from when the continents were joined, the other Styrax crewmates left in Asia and the Mediterranean.

INCI: Styrax Benzoin (Benzoin) Gum Extract Benzoin is the balsamic resin produces by certain trees in the Styrax genus. It has a long history of use in perfumery, incense making and in some instances as a medicine. It' s most common use today is in perfumery where it used as a 'fixative' meaning it slows down the dispersion of essential oils and other fragrance compounds into the air.On it's own it has pleasant mild, warm, and sweet scent bearing similarities to Vanilla and Coffee. This product is intended for external use only
Sumatran Benzoin Styrax essential oil, also known as Benzoin Sumatra, is a fragrant resin obtained from the Styrax benzoin tree, which is native to the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. This essential oil is renowned for its warm, rich, and vanilla-like aroma, making it a beloved choice for perfumery, aromatherapy, and in the crafting of luxurious personal care products. The process of obtaining Sumatran Benzoin Styrax essential oil involves tapping into the tree's bark to extract the resin, which is then allowed to harden into a crystalline form. This resin is later dissolved in alcohol to produce a thick, golden-brown extract or oil, which is highly valued for its soothing, sweet scent and its ability to blend well with other fragrances. The aroma of Sumatran Benzoin Styrax essential oil is deeply comforting and grounding, often described as having a richly sweet, balsamic scent with hints of vanilla and spices. It’s this characteristic fragrance that makes it a popular choice for adding depth and warmth to perfume blends, particularly in oriental and floral compositions. Its complex scent profile also includes subtle undertones of caramel, chocolate, and almond, adding a layer of sophistication and allure to any blend. In perfumery and aromatic applications, Sumatran Benzoin Styrax is used as a base note, acting as a fixative that enhances the longevity of other perfume components by slowing down their evaporation rates. Its rich aroma also makes it a favored ingredient in the creation of scented candles, incense, and room diffusers, where it contributes to a calming and inviting atmosphere. When used in skincare formulations, such as lotions, balms, and salves, Sumatran Benzoin Styrax imparts not only its delightful scent but also a sense of luxury and wellbeing. It is particularly favored in products aimed at soothing dry, cracked skin, or in lip care products, where its soft vanilla fragrance is both comforting and appealing. Sumatran Benzoin Styrax essential oil, with its enchanting aroma and multifaceted applications, is a treasure of the natural world. Whether used for its fragrance, as part of a ritual, or in skincare, it brings a touch of warmth and exotic elegance to any creation. Excellent fixative for grounding and refining compositions.
