Architecture - The George Sturges House (1939) by Frank Lloyd Wright is a rare Usonian home in Southern California, designed with affordability and efficiency in mind. Its bold cantilevered design, reinforced with steel, allows the 1,200-square-foot (110 m²) structure to extend over a Brentwood hillside, creating a striking sense of weightlessness. Constructed with redwood, brick, and concrete, the house follows Wright’s philosophy of integrating architecture with nature. Inspired by the Jacobs House (1937), it features an open-plan layout and passive design strategies that enhance natural light and ventilation. Owned by actor Jack Larson for nearly five decades, the home was designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #577 in 1993. A testament to Wright’s ingenuity, the Sturges House remains an enduring example of American modernism. #FrankLloydWright #UsonianHome #OrganicArchitecture
