The Library has photographs of the Louis Armstrong tour, the first Afro-American entertainer to visit after the ban was lifted, and of the Harlem Blackbirds in 1955, the first Afro-American group to visit. War is brutal. War is just. The American Civil War (1861–1865) was no exception. For many men that bloody war meant giving a lib. Amputations were the order of the day:

Veterans have stories. Spartan Hoplites, Roman Legionnaires, Golden Horde Horsemen, Doughboy Infantrymen, and the Modern United States Warfighters. From the humorous, to the horrifying, to the heartbreaking; their stories are reflections of society and history for both their brothers in arms and culture as whole. Contrary to the preponderance of stories in popular culture, not all Modern U.S. Warfighter stores are from Navy SEALs, Delta Force Operators, or Army Rangers. Over 1.5 million Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines have deployed in support of our nation's wars and conflicts since 2001. Every one of those have more than a few stories to tell, and it is historically important to listen and try to understand.AJ Todd and Bucky Calhoun are combat veterans who put this book together to honor the brothers and sisters who have gone before, those who now serve, and those who will heed the call of duty long after we're gone. They want to share these stories in the hopes that others might want to do the same, whether it is via a medium such as this, with their buddies, with their families and friends, or just with themselves. Because although it may not seem like it, people want to hear the stories.
