It's Monday Montage time again, my friends!! I have done more crafting this week than I have during any other week in a loooooong time! (I'm participating in a 7-day scrapbook challenge on Instagram and it's been keeping me busy!). I got to dig into a few of my fun new goodies ... and used some DSP that retired with the last mini catalog ... couldn't help myself! I am LOVING the amount of fun, new masculine sets in this year's catalog! Having been on MANY week-long canoe trips with my hubby, I KNEW that this set was a MUST HAVE! It's just SOOOO good! This is where I couldn't resist using the Waves of the Ocean DSP that came out in the last mini catalog and retired last month. It is just too-too perfect for this set! I colored the canoe with my Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends and the guy's hat and oars with the Bermuda Bay Blends. I also used the Blue Foils DSP behind the Waves DSP ... it's just such a great combo! I tucked a little big of black and white Gingham Ribbon under the edge (and can see from the photo that I didn't press the top layer down all the way before I took the photo ... YIKES!)! I'm pretty happy with how this turned out! Stamps: Adventurous Journey Paper: Whisper White, Bermuda Bay, Basic Black, Waves of the Ocean DSP Ink: Black Memento, Versamark, Granny Apple Green; Stampin' Blends - Granny Apple Green, Bermuda Bay Accessories: Whisper White Embossing Powder, Gingham Ribbon Here's a blog roll just in case you get "stuck" trying to hop around ... Mango Melody with Fond of Autumn Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, featuring one of the colours each week. This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a bright orange yellow called Mango Melody. Mango Melody is part of the Brights Colour Family and is a happy colour similar to ripe mangos. This colour is lovely when used for flowers, tea cups, Autumn and so much more. Mango Melody is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Soft Pastels, Brights Designer Series Paper as well as Hues of Happiness & Textured Chic DSP, Textured Chic Memories & More Cards & Envelopes, Light The Candles kit and Love This Memory Notebook kit. Here is the card I created using Mango Melody card-stock and Classic Stampin' Ink plus other bits and pieces: This wasn’t my initial design but the first didn’t work so this happy card was created. I love Mango Melody with a bright pink and so for this project combined it with Melon Mambo plus Granny Apple Green and a touch of Garden Green for the leaves. For me, part of getting to know a colour is finding other colours that work well with it. A card base of Mango Melody card-stock has a little White Craft ink daubered over some of the front. A piece of Basic White card-stock was die cut using the detailed die from the Autumn Bouquet dies. It was used twice to die cut most of the background. It is a beautiful die. As I was die cutting I was reminded how good Stampin’ Up!s new Cut ‘n Emboss Machine is as it cut through this large detailed die with only a few passes through the machine. An earlier NON-Stampin Up! Machine had dead spots in the centre that couldn’t cut large detailed dies like this - it was so frustrating. That isn’t the case with Stampin’ Up!s current machine. The large floral, leaf & berries stamp was stamped a number of times in Versamark ink on Shimmery White card-stock and heat embossed with Gold Emboss Powder and a Heat Tool. The flowers and leaves were water-coloured using a fine Water Painter. The flowers were water-coloured with a mix of Mango Melody and Melon Mambo Classic inks using varying amounts of the different colours, ie some flowers being more mango and others more mambo. The berries were mainly Melon Mambo ink and the leaves were coloured with Granny Apple Green and touches of Garden Green Classic inks. After the coloured sections had dried they were die cut with the coordinating die. This die cuts the stamped image into a number of pieces and there are some gold embossed pieces remaining together with a water coloured panel that wasn’t used. Keep an eye out - they may turn up on next weeks project??? All of the water coloured pieces were arranged over the die cut card front and adhered with a mix of Dimensionals and Multi-purpose Liquid Glue. A sentiment from the Fond of Autumn stamp set was gold heat embossed onto Basic White card-stock. I used the curvy banner from the coordinating dies and then cut it down a little so it wasn’t as long. It was added with Dimensionals. A bow of Pale Papaya Open Weave In Colour ribbon (that had been cut in half length wise) together with White Bakers twine (from the Basics Bakers Twine packet) was tucked under the sentiment banner and adhered with Glue Dots. A number of Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels were scattered around. These gems were perfect as they have both yellow and pink tinges. A Basic White card inner was decorated with a water coloured spray of berries. One of the left over gold embossed leaves/acorns pieces was adhered to the back flap of a Basic White C6 Envelope. I hadn’t water coloured it but quite like the gold and white design on the flap. Thank you for spending time with me on my blog. I hope these bright and happy colours bring some joy. There is more Mango Melody creativity. Continue along the blog hop with me and click the "onto the next" graphic below to be taken to the blog of the amazing Kate Morgan. Happy Sunday, friends! Time for a fun new creative challenge over at The Paper Players! This week, LeAnne is our host for a fabulous Sketch Challenge. Hooray for Sketch Challenge week! These are always my favorite. LeAnne has whipped up a fun layout and I just loved seeing what everyone on the design team did with it. There are lots of possibilities, that’s for sure! I hope you will join us and share your creation this week. *I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post. Color Combo: Soft Suede Cajun Craze Crushed Curry Crumb Cake When I sat down to create with this sketch, I was immediately drawn to a stamp set that I recently ordered: Forever Friendship. This is just a super-cute little set and I knew it would be on my must have list as soon as I saw that “Time for a Card-Again” sentiment. I always love a good pun! :) I knew I wanted to make a masculine birthday card for this challenge because I never seem to have enough when I need them. Next came the search for some patterned paper to help me select my color combo. I decided to use the He’s the Man Specialty Designer Series Paper because I love how the patterns kind of play off the texture in the cardigan. I had to chuckle as this card features three of my least favorite colors: Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Soft Suede. Oddly enough, they seem to play really well together so I guess there might be some hope for them after all. Haha! For a finishing detail, I popped on some Resin Stars Embellishments which just recently retired. It’s fun to dig around in the retired stash sometimes. You just never know what you will find in there! Card Measurements & Details: Soft Suede Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2” Basic White Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4” He’s the Man Specialty Designer Series Paper (Crumb Cake pattern): 3-7/8” x 5-1/8” He’s the Man Specialty Designer Series Paper (Cajun Craze pattern): 1-1/2” x 4-5/8”, trim a banner end either with scissors or a banner punch Vellum Cardstock: die cut a 2-1/2“ circle using Stylish Shapes Dies Basic White Cardstock: scrap to stamp cardigan image and two flag images in Momento Ink, color with Stampin’ Blends (Crumb Cake light/dark, Cajun Craze light, Daffodil Delight dark) & fussy-cut Basic White Cardstock: scrap to stamp sentiment in Momento Ink then die cut using the banner from Stylish Shapes Dies Resin Stars Embellishments are recently retired, but substituting another embellishment would also work just as well Basic White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4” He’s the Man Specialty Designer Series Paper (Cajun Craze pattern, inside card): 4” x 3/4” Here is a peek inside the card! I simply added a strip of the DSP along with some stamping to keep the party going from the front of the card. I really like how this one came together and I hope you do as well! I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your project for our Sketch Challenge. We’d love to see what you come up with!
