Today JustRite Papercraft continues their August release previews with Day 2 of Samantha Walker’s new stamps! I used one of Samantha’s three new stamp sets, Botanical Swirls Labels: Which coordinate with her new Spellbinders Samantha Walker Botanical Swirls & Accents dies: To create my 5.50” square thank-you card: Don’t these stamps and dies work beautifully together?!! And the stamp set is full of all kinds of everyday sentiments you’ll use year round for any occasion! To create the label die, I die cut coordinating pale aqua solid patterned paper (from Authentique’s Gathering 6x6 pad) and while the paper was still in the die, I airbrushed it with Copic Sketch Markers YR04 and E39: Never fear, your die will clean right up with an alcohol prep pad (or Copic Colorless Blender Solution!): Next, I stamped the center of the label die cut with a pretty frame stamp from this set, using Memento Rich Cocoa ink. Then I used the YR04 Copic marker to color the outside embossed edge of the die cut, for a quick and easy extra layer look: The light aqua seam binding was darkened a little and dyed with Copic BG53 Various Ink Refill and the Bow Easy...

I have been playing around and experimenting with Spellbinders Elegant 3D Vignettes (dimensional dies) by Becca Feeken. This particular die is called Grand Dome. The coolest thing about these dimensional cards is that they fold flat for placing in envelopes. My video shows how. Ohhhhhh, I have sooo many ideas for this die! I believe I have too many ideas and not enough time for creating. A problem we probably all have. I created a little seascape using the Sea Land paper collection from Stamparia. It's my version of a ship in a bottle concept. The sweet sea gulls are also from the Stamperia paper . I simply cut them out and added some hemp cord for salty seascape effect. The adorable tiny starfish were given to my by my scrappy friend, Kathi Simmons. Thanks Kathi! They are the perfect finishing touch. Once all the pieces were cut, I inked the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink for bold accent, then pieced the card together. The small die in the set made the perfect topper for my card. Thanks for stopping. I appreciate your time. Thanks to Spellbinders also, for selecting me to be a Spellblogger. Where to shop? You can shop for all your Spellbinders dies right here . Tired of your basic rectangular card shape? Looking for a change? Need a unique card for someone extra special? If so, then this is the perfect place to stop for a super simple card making DIY tutorial. I'm really bored of making rectangle or square cards. I need to change things up and add shape to my cardmaking life. I have some incredible Spellbinders dies and head turning paper from Maja Design that will help make this project perfect. Along with my DIY tutorial, I also have a give-away opportunity to win the new Maja Design paper collection. Keep on reading to see both the tutorial and to see how to enter the drawing. First up - a little about the products I selected. I'm using the Maja Design - Denim & Friends paper collection along with a Spellbinders die, Spellbinders Designer Series -Venise Lace Victoriana Crest by Becca Feeken, as my inspiration. I've already shared an image of the paper collection. This is the gorgeous die I used for the card. Yep go ahead and add it to your "wish list". Spellbinders Designer Series -Venise Lace Victoriana Crest by Becca Feeken S6-125 Here Are My Instructions: Step 1. Using a 12x12 sheet from Maja Design - Denim & Friends, grab a die that will make a nice card shape. I chose a die that was quite large to make a sizable card. My paper choice is Jeans & T-Shirt from Denim & Friends, and the die is Spellbinders Designer Series -Venise Lace Victoriana Crest by Becca Feeken . First, decide how much paper you need and where to cut your paper. Your paper must be wide enough to fold - meaning you will be die cutting two layers at the same time. Leave enough width to the right on your paper. Place the die on the paper and draw a line to mark how long the die is and where you need to cut and where you will fold. This step is important. Step 2. After cutting the length of paper to fit the die shape, fold the paper. The die needs to hang over the edge of the paper fold slightly in order to create a card that will open without falling apart into two sections. Once your die is in place, secure with tape and run the folded paper/die through your die cutter. Step 3. When you open your card, it should be connected at the fold. If it is, Great job! If it falls apart into two pieces, it just means you probably did not let the die hang over the edge of the fold quite enough. Just try again and move the die over a bit more. Handy suggestion...try this technique first on a yucky sheet of paper and not your gorgeous Maja Design papers. Step 4. The image below is what you should have if the die cutting has been successful. Step 5. When I opened the card, there was too much pattern for writing a sentiment. I cut a separate die to glue on the inside. Step 6. Decorate as desired. I added another die cut from Spellbinders Designer Series -Venise Lace Victoriana Crest by Becca Feeken .to the center of my piece using foam dots (cardboard, foam tape) for dimension as you can see in the image below. To finish off the piece, I used pearl adhesives, a simple ribbon and some coordinated Petaloo flowers. Petaloo by Floracraft : Darjeeling collection flowers Mini Garden Rosettes in Blue These are paper flowers from Petaloo by Floracraft -Petaloo by Floracraft : Darjeeling collection flowers Mini Garden Rosettes in Blue . You can shop for them right here or shop for them here. Petaloo by Floracraft flowers - Darjeeling collection - Teastained Dahlias in Cream 1467-105 or find them here. And that's all there is to creating a unique and graceful card that is NOT traditionally shaped. Ahhhhh makes my heart happy and my creative spirit dance. This tutorial is a long time coming! About two years ago, Becca Feeken at Spellbinders came out with these great Vignette dies where you die cut different layers of a scene and put them all together with a structure that you also die cut. These things BLEW MY MIND! I couldn't wait to get some of these dies. Everyone else felt the same way. These dies sold out very quickly! By the time I got to the website with my credit card, they were gone! I had no way of making an adorable vignette that would fold up, go in an envelope, and bring not only my good wishes but "ooos" and "ahhhhhs" from the recipient. Or did I? That's when I invented this card. But unfortunately, my life was so busy at that point (sole caregiver to my mother, who has dementia) that I didn't have time to make a tutorial. But now I do, and so here we go! Because I wanted this to be a springtime card, I chose to use a base of Stampin' Up's Mint Macaroon cardstock. I cut one piece of cardstock at 11" X 5-12," and cut another piece of cardstock into four pieces, each 4-1/4" X 5-1/2". If you want to make it easy on yourself, MAKE SURE THE 4-1/4" MEASUREMENTS MATCH! Each of those four pieces should be EXACTLY the same width. Stack them on top of each other, and if they are not EXACTLY the same width, trim them so they are. I sound like someone who didn't do this earlier, don't I? Mmmmhmmmm. Score the big piece of cardstock right down the middle at 5-1/2", and score each of the smaller pieces at 1/2" on both long edges (see diagram below). Remember: When you score cardstock, fold AWAY from the indentation, not with it. I know it's counter-intuitive, but if you fold away from the indented score line on the big piece, it's going to make one of the instructions further down make sense. Michelle Wright explains it well here. I bought these dies from Poppystamps specifically to create this technique. If you do not have these dies, you can use any nesting dies you have. You can use dies that are the same size for that matter. If you don't have dies at all, you can cut a tunnel in your cardstock with a paper trimmer or scissors. Heck, it's just paper! Play around with it! Here is the same cardstock after I die cut. (Okay, some of you have noticed that there are two right-side score lines on the bottom right-hand panel. I initially scored the wrong indentation. Whoops! That's why I designated this panel to be in the back. No one will notice.) I colored directly onto the trees and branches with the brush tip of a Copic W5 marker and airbrushed with some yellow-green Copics. I used the lightest marker for what's going to be the front panel and went gradually darker. However, I don't think that was necessary because you can always change how light or dark you go by airbrushing lighter or darker. (Eventually, I end up adding more color anyway, but at this point in the process, I didn't know I was going to do that yet.) Cut a contrasting panel (mine is yellow) at 5" X 3". This is going to go at the back of the tunnel, so I used a really bright panel. Then, after placing the tree panel with the smallest opening over top of the 3X5 panel so I would know where to stamp, I stamped the word "Spring." I also smeared some glue at the bottom and covered it with Flower Soft that I found in a drawer. The flower soft did not cover completely, so I added some light green glitter as well. It's like a meadow of flowers and glitter, like in real life. Now it's time to add our first windowed panel to the inside of the card. Start with the panel with the smallest opening. Add some Score-tape (or other adhesive; your choice) to the left flap of that panel. Because you have folded your 11" X 5-1/2" cardstock against the fold indentation, you should have a ridged score line on the inside of the card. Place the panel with the tree window on the right side of that ridge. Peel the Scor-Tape liner off, make sure everything is lined up, and close the front of the card. Now, when you open the card back up, you should see something like this. Take the panel with the second smallest opening, put some Scor-Tape (or other adhesive) on the left flap, and adhere it just above the panel you just did. Keep doing that until you have all four windowed panels stuck down evenly on the inside front of your card. I forgot to take a picture of it, but adhere the 3" X 5" panel (mine is yellow) to the inside back cover so you will be able to see it through the windows. Even though I forgot to photograph that part. You are very smart and will be able to figure out exactly where it goes. At this point in this particular card, I realized that just airbrushing some green around the tree tops was not going to make this a very woodsy card, so I took some distress ink and a sea sponge and sponged leaves on the various layers. It was extremely easy to mask off each layer by simply putting a half sheet of cardstock behind the panel I was working on and another half sheet to the left of that panel. I also took the opportunity to airbrush some moss or grass on the ground under the trees. And then I die cut some deer, and a bunny, and some birds. I believe these dies are from Impression Obsession. I sponged some ink on the edges to make them look more rounded and lifelike. This is a great time to add any critters or flowers or vines or whatever to your layers. So much harder after sticking the right side of the flaps together (voice of experience). I also realized I wanted to scatter some more Flower Soft at the bottom of each layer, so I did that too. Now cut one more piece of the green cardstock at 5-1/2" X 4-1/4" and score it lengthwise at 2". I went ahead and stamped mine with a wood background. The 2" part of the panel is going to be used to hold all four of the right-hand side flaps together, and the 2-1/4" part of that panel is going to get stuck to the right-hand inside of the card. Because you are sticking flaps together, on the back of that panel, run your adhesive horizontally. I used my wide Scor-Tape for this because . . . I really don't have a lot of other uses for tape that wide, and I have a whole roll. You can absolutely use adhesive that is narrower. Open up your card completely and press all those layers down. See how they line up nice and even? That's where the 2" part of the new panel is going to go! Take your Scor-Tape liners off, and stick it all together. I glued the 2-1/4" part to the back cover first, and then--while it was all still flat--glued the 2" side down. Open the close your card to make sure it all works. If you want to take another run at it, Scor-Tape can be loosened with your heat gun and the paper very gently pried apart again. Also feel free to use your scissors to trim anything that didn't quite fit. To finish up the inside of the card, I stamped this sentiment by Penny Black to the left of the trees. And this is how the tunnel looks all put together! Magical! Here is the entire inside of the card put together. Oh yeah, I need an outside of the card too! I used this die from Eutreec that I bought really reasonably from Amazon, and a wood-grain embossing folder from Stampin' Up. Here are a couple more samples I made: This one uses regular old nesting dies, and some very old but gorgeous paper from a company I don't even think is in business anymore. I can't remember what this paper is. I made the card two years ago. I have a thing for adding butterflies wherever I can. The nesting dies used here are Spellbinders, and the butterfly and plant dies are Cheery Lynn. And this one uses Spellbinders dies from the one and only Becca Feeken! Yes, the very dies I was looking for and couldn't get at the time, came back in stock and I bought them!!! And now I can use them in the Storybook Tunnel Card! I also got to use some very beautiful paper from Graphic 45 on this one. This card is made even more special with a door. The door opens and everything. Look! Another magical world inside! A message of thanks! And thanks to all of you who hung in there all the way to the end of this very long blog post. If you have made it all the way to the end, you have to click on this link and see the VERY GORGEOUS card made by my good friend, Shelly Hickox. Shelly is a genius with Graphic 45 (with anything really--very creative that one). Now go make one of your own! Cyndi

Hello, crafty friends! This is Emily Leiphart and I’m thrilled to be back on the Spellbinders blog, featuring the Fair Winds Collection by Dawn Woleslagle. This is such a fun coastal and nautical collection, perfect for summertime cards of all occasions. I wanted to create my cards with a non-traditional color palette and I was inspired by the colors from the Simple Stories Just Beachy 6×8” Paper Pad. Each card features the patterned paper in a different way — the border, a small selection of die cuts, and a centerpiece background. This first card features the Uncharted Waters Stencil, Guiding Light Dies, Set Sail Dies, and the Fair Winds Sentiments. I love those crashing waves and the layered rocks but the highlight is really the lighthouse! I cut the lighthouse from Barely Peach (main structure), Light Teal (stripes) and Dark Teal (top and window) from the Meadow Collection Cardstock Pack, Mirror Silver (railing), and Mango cardstock (lightbulb). It was so much fun to build this lighthouse in my choice of colors and the possibilities are endless. To create the sky, I used three layers of the Uncharted Waters Stencil with pink, orange and yellow inks and blending brushes. I just love the way these colours swirl around in the background, complementing the teals and grays. I finished by creating a frame using the Mirrored Arch Labels in Graphite cardstock with a touch of Mirror Silver cardstock at the bottom. I made this second card with a pale background as a contrast to the first design. This card features the Set Sail Dies and Fair Winds Sentiments. I cut the background from Barely Peach cardstock and dry embossed it with a retired Sun Burst Stencil but you can use the Sun Rays Embossing Folder as an alternative for a similar effect. I cut the crashing waves from Dark Teal cardstock, and the sailboat from Graphite, Light Teal, Mirror Silver and Watermelon Pink from the Meadow Collection Cardstock Pack. The sails were cut from a floral piece of Simple Stories Just Beachy 6×8” Paper Pad and the cute sun was die cut from one of the pages. Both elements add so much whimsy to this scene! I really love the selection of sentiments included in the Fair Winds Sentiments set because they cover so many occasions from Father’s Day and thank you to birthdays, encouragement cards and so much more. This third card featuring Oh, Buoy! and the Fair Winds Sentiments is definitely my favorite because — seagulls! I started by die-cutting all of the layers for the seagulls using Snowdrift, Fog, Graphite, Onyx and Mango cardstock. I wanted to make so many of them because it was so fun to assemble them. I literally can’t wait to make more! Haha I die cut the breakwater pillars from Dark Teal cardstock and the ropes from Light Teal cardstock. I just love those tiny ropes which even have fiber details on them! The buoys and life ring were cut from Barely Peach, Watermelon Pink and Persimmon cardstock. I extended the middle pillar by stacking two on top, then using the bottom end of the die to crop it off nicely. I used the Precision Layering A2 A Dies to cut all of the base panels on all three cards, as well as to cut this piece of striped patterned paper from the Simple Stories Just Beachy 6×8” Paper Pad. The bottom section was a bright yellow that didn’t coordinate so I cut an additional piece of pink woodgrain to match and glued that on top. To finish, I stamped the sentiment in the center of the white palm tree. I hope you find inspiration from this trio of cards featuring all of these products from the Fair Winds Collection by Dawn Woleslagle! It’s so easy to create multiple cards when working with a specific color palette, just like the Simple Stories Just Beachy 6×8” Paper Pad. Thanks so much for stopping by today! I fell in love with this blue ribbon bow and absolutely had to create something with it. The image from Crafty Secrets coordinated perfectly to make this Blue Vintage Card. Blue Vintage Card Tutorial I started by die cutting some … Continue reading →

It seems that I didn't do this demo enough times as I have been inundated with requests for a pictorial tutorial on it. It is really very simple and I have taken a series of pics for you so it should be very easy to recreate. Starting with your cutting plate on the bottom, place a piece of heavyweight card (at least 240gsm, although a bit heavier would be preferable). Place your Labels 28 die with the cutting ridge towards your cutting plate and card. Next, you are going to lay a strip of card about an inch to an inch and quarter wide across the centre of the die. If your card is not heavyweight enough, you will cut right through this and your card below and it will not work. If in doubt, use two strips of card stacked on top of each other. The point to this is stop your die from cutting this section, but allow it cut cut everything else. Next, skip a size in your die set and use the next one down (I have shown my set to the left with the largest one missing, then I skipped a size, then the next one is missing) and lay that in place over the strip but lined up the larger die. Tape these in place to keep them straight. Cover this with your base plate and run through your Grand Calibur machine. The picture to the right is what you will have when you remove your die from the plates and discard the strip. You can see where it has left an embossed area in the centre, but it has not actually cut all the way through there . Next, Fold the two outside edges upwards from the point where they are attached in the centre. Place double sided sticky tape in the centre and attach to the back of your card. Depending on the weight of the card you have used and how sturdy the card is, attach it about a half inch from the bottom. You can attach higher if your card weight is thick enough to support your card leaning back further. You can also cut two of the easels and then use double sided tape to adhere them to each other to get a sturdier easel if you chose to do so. Also, this will work with some of the other similar shaped dies too if you do have Labels 28. You will just need to play around with some of the more rectangle shaped ones. I hope that helps but if you have any questions you can email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to answer you.

Hello Friends, I know I got the BetterPress Club of April 2024, but instead of BetterPressing it, I hot-foiled it with gold foil on dark gray and black card stock. I inspired the old classic Singer sewing machine color combination of black and gold, which I applied to my card. I love the design of

Happy Friday friends! I’m excited to be back today to share a couple of projects using the new Color Block Mini Shapes Collection from Spellbinders. The fun layered shapes in this collection inspired me to piece together three eye-catching designs to create colorful cards for several different occasions. ELEGANT THANK YOU CARD I loved the look of the Mini Inverted Squares Die Set and thought it would make a beautiful background for a card. Here I used shades of black, white, and grey along with pops of gold for an elegant thank you card. Die cut Onyx, Graphite, Lunar Grey, Silver Fox, Mirror Gold, and white cardstock using the inverted square shapes die from the Mini Inverted Squares Die Set. Die cut white cardstock using the base die from the set and piece the shapes back together on top, alternating colors. Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4” x 5.25” and add the assembled squares on top to cover about two-thirds of the panel. Trim any overhanging shapes at the bottom with a paper trimmer or scissors. Die cut Onyx and Mirror Gold Cardstock using the thanks die from the Yana’s Layered Script Sentiments Die Set and adhere the layers together with liquid glue. Add the background panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive. Adhere the sentiment above the pattern with liquid glue. MINI SLIMLINE FRIENDSHIP CARD It’s so much fun to experiment with not only different colors using the Color Block Mini Shapes, but also different patterns. Here I created a loopy strip design using the Color Block Mini Drops Die Set for this bright friendship card. Die cut Persimmon, Pink Sand, Dahlia, Wild Berry, and Mirror Gold Cardstock using the Color Block Mini Drops Die Set. Die cut white cardstock using the base die from the set and piece the shapes back together on top, alternating colors. Trim a piece of white cardstock to 3.5” x 6.5” and emboss it using the Striped Slimline Embossing Folder. Add the embossed panel to a top-folding white card base measuring 3.5” x 6.5” with tape runner. Arrange the drops into a loopy strip pattern down the center of the card base and adhere down with liquid glue. Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using a sentiment from the Yana’s Special Sentiments Foil Plate Set and the Glimmer Hot Foil Machine. Cut it out using the coordinating die and adhere it to the card front with foam adhesive. EASY FATHER'S DAY CARD Lastly, I wanted to use the shapes to create a focal point for a card. Here I added a simple embossed background and a foiled sentiment for this easy Father’s Day card. Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4.25” x 5.5” and emboss it using the Geo Screen Embossing Folder. Adhere the embossed panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner. Die cut Cosmic Sky, Raindrop, Glacier, white, and Mirror Silver Cardstock using the Color Block Mini Petals Die Set. Die cut white cardstock using the base die from the set and piece the shapes back together on top, alternating colors. Apply Cobalt Blue Hot Foil to white cardstock using a sentiment from the Happy Parents Day Foil Plate Set and cut it out using the coordinating die. Arrange the petals to form a simple floret pattern and adhere down to the card front with foam adhesive. Add the sentiment to the bottom of the card with more foam adhesive. I hope you enjoyed these easy and colorful cards and thanks so much for stopping by today. Hello! Thank you so much for joining us at The Frilly and Funkie Blog! It's Nancy, and I'm excited to be back this week with my second post for our Friday Focus on Spellbinders. All Spellbinders products continue to be on sale for an additional 15% off the already discounted price at The Funkie Junkie Boutique for one more week! If I haven't mentioned this already, I love everything about Spellbinders products. Their beauty and versatility make them a craft room necessity. I'm sharing a fun and easy portfolio mini album with you today. It's filled with all kinds of Spellbinders (and Prima) goodness! Cut a piece of design paper to 12 inches wide by 9.5 high. Score the 12 inch (width) side at 1/4 inch, 6 inches, and 11 3/4 inches. Score the across the 9 1/2 inch (height) side 3 inches from the bottom. Fold at all score lines. Fold paper in half at the 6 inch mark. Place Spellbinders Curved borders One die at edge of the 3 inch score mark. Tape in place with repositionable tape. Die cut in machine of your choice. While paper is still folded in half, cut the 1/4 inch score lines 6 1/2 inches until you reach the top of the pocket. Distress all exposed edges with Tim Holtz Distress Tool. Apply strong adhesive to front tabs of pocket. Fold up at 3 inch score line to create pocket. Fold tabs over and adhere both sides to the design paper below. Fold page in half at the 6 inch score line. Now you have a portfolio folder with a pocket on each side. You can make as many or as few pages as you choose. For demonstration purposes I have 4 pages. Binding the album is simple, but explaining it makes it seem more complicated than it is. Decide which order you wish your pages to be in. Beginning with the page you will use as your cover, apply about 3/4 inches of strong adhesive all the way down the edge of the BACK of the page on the side with the opening. Adhere page two of your album to the cover page. It will look like the photo below. Adhere all pages in the same 'accordion' manner. When finished it will look like the photo below. Next adhere the back edges of your album with strong adhesive in the same manner. When complete you will have a flat album as shown below. Cut and distress a 6 by 3 1/2 inch piece of design paper. Adhere strip of paper to back of album to create an attractive spine. The photo below demonstrates the way your bound album will appear. Cut two of the largest squares from Label 49 Decorative Elements. Adhere them in a staggered manor as demonstrated below. My new favorite stamp is Tammy Tutterow's Big Fabric Background stamp. It's inked up with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and the album is stamped inside and out to add a distressed feel. I use just the edge of the stamp that looks like water stains. Below is a photo of the stamped front cover. I'll show you the inner pages individually at the end of the post. Cut the largest Spellbinders Oval Floral die from design paper and cut the piece in half. Adhere both halves in a staggered manner as shown below. Grab some pretty paper flowers (or make some!)... Your choice. Cut 8 of the largest rectangles from Spellbinders Romantic Rose dies. Create 4 in plain paper (for journaling cards), and 4 in patterned paper (for photo mats). Arrange your flowers and adhere them to the album. I can never resist adding a bow. I also can't resist some last minute bling! Below are photos of the finished project. Thank you again for visiting! With an extra 15% discount on all Spellbinders products, now is the time to head over to The Funkie Junkie Boutique and add a few new dies and stamps to your crafty stash. Have you ever found a product you love so much, you think you could use just it for the rest of your cardmaking life? This one may be it for me. These little geometric colour block dies from Spellbinders are versatile. You can make so many patterns, and you can create a card for any occasion just by changing the colours and textures, colouring techniques and sentiments (or by not using all the pieces every time). They come in lots of shapes, and they are a BARGAIN! (and if you like cutting a lot of them to create patterns, I suggest buying more than one to make it go faster! lol!) I think by inkblending these petals with two shades on each 'ring', they almost look like embroidery and these ones are definitely going into my 'black label' pile. That's the pile of my favourites, that I keep for me to send myself, rather than selling or donating to others.
