This Study Guide for CfE Advanced Higher Spanish from Bright Red will help you achieve success by taking you through the various challenges of the CfE Advanced Higher Spanish course. The Advanced Higher course will continue to build on the foundations laid down in Higher, so you need to ensure the basics are in place. You will see in this guide how topics can be integrated and how the topics are not prescriptive. The topic areas can be explored in class and at home but the main way to achieve success in CfE Advanced Higher Spanish is to develop the skill areas of Reading, Listening, Talking and Writing. The book will take you through your work in one year leading to the examination. It should be used to complement the work that you are doing in class. It offers you a combination of exemplar material, grammar points and a guide to revision of the topics you need to cover for the exam. It will also talk you through some techniques for improving your work as well as giving you insights into exam techniques. Your teacher will not be able to cover absolutely everything that is on the suggested list of context development, but you don't need to worry too much about that. This book provides a thorough introduction to Einstein's special theory of relativity, suitable for anyone with a minimum of one year's university physics with calculus. It is divided into fundamental and advanced topics. The first section starts by recalling the Pythagorean rule and its relation to the geometry of space, then covers every aspect of special relativity, including the history. The second section covers the impact of relativity in quantum theory, with an introduction to relativistic quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. It also goes over the group theory of the Lorentz group, a simple introduction to supersymmetry, and ends with cutting-edge topics such as general relativity, the standard model of elementary particles and its extensions, superstring theory, and a survey of important unsolved problems. Normally I dread the approaching start of school. However, this year has been different for me. One of the reasons is that I do not have any kids to be playing with in the summer. The second reason is Husband is doing "rotations" in a city about 1.5 hours away, so he is living there during the week. This frees up my days considerably and, in the last 2 days, has left me really board. Also, we are going on vacation the week before school starts and I know that will limit my time considerably to prepare. So, what have I been up to you ask? Getting ready for school of course! The awesome janitorial staff here got my room waxed in JUNE, so I am free to roam about the classroom. Here's a peek at what I have done and some BIG QUESTIONS as I approach Year 3 of Spanish teaching. I have decided I will change things every year. There are always great ideas that I would like to try out and things I think could be better (perfectionist much?). That said, Here's what I have worked on. The newest "back to school" bulletin board. I used laminated country flags I made last year for speaking activities and some pictures I had taken around the globe on my travels. It's bright and eye-catching. I LOVE my bulletin board (I feel a little like an elementary school teacher) but my first year teaching I didn't have one and so I was determined to use and change it often. Frase de la Semana BUCKET- Last year I used an old gift bag, it worked fine but wasn't near as cute. I found this guy at Hobby Lobby and with the 40% off I think I paid $2. Supply Buckets! I finally broke down and combined all my art supplies. Last year I made each table a basket with one of everything. However, giant fail in my classroom. 1, I teach high school so they aren't using these art supplies everyday and so they dont' serve the sit in the middle of the group function that they might at the elementary level. 2, my students mixed up all the supplies in the baskets anyway! It would have been a huge hassle to separate so this year I just used huge tubs and they are just going to have to hunt and find, and share! Magazine Organization I've been thinking about a way to display my People en Espanol magazines in addition to my children's books so it spices up the classroom and students can see them to use them! I looked at magazine racks, but they ran like $30 for the ones I thought would work. No no no. I'm too cheap. So I just used an old folder stand and stuck them there. Still looking for a place for the newspapers. I think I can get a piece of gutter (or tiny crown molding trim) to set at the back of my long counter and put books in (or use to prop them up). That project is still in the works. Yo puedo/FDS signs This year I am trying to post the objective everyday and their Phrase of the Week for my respective Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 classes. This is for a couple of reasons. Last year after my first Phrase of the Week year (it was a HUGE hit) I realized I would have some of the same kids in Spanish 2, and I needed 28 more phrases! So I made a #2 list with some of the same and a lot of new, phrases to switch out every other year. I'm trying to decide between now and August, do I just rotate the lists every year (I just teach 1 & 2) or do I use one list for Spanish 1, and the other always for Spanish 2? The only trick is I would have to keep the phrases, and classes, separate in my mind. The next thing was the "Yo Puedo". Last year I had them write this down every day in a spot on their "daily" worksheet. They dreaded it. This year I may get rid of that part because I'm going to try out "Stamp Sheets" for unit objectives thanks to Creative Language Classroom and Jefferson County Public Schools. I modeled mine after theirs and think it will accomplish a couple of things. Students can see exactly what they need to know for the test. It's in student friendly language. They love stamps. (Yes even high schoolers). And now they don't have to write it down everyday. We will still talk about it and I may have them star it or put the date on their stamp sheet. One of the big pushes of our administration is to come in the room and ask kids why/what they are learning. If we talk about 1 circle each day they should definitely know the why to what we are doing! Useful phrases wall This doesn't stay up very long, but I like having it to start the year. The colored signs I actually found in the supply closet, and added a couple of my own. Vocab card storage Last year I had a closet full of vocabulary cards, question cards, word pieces for sentences, Que Lastima games, etc. for EACH UNIT! So I bought colored boxes at the Dollar Tree (I Love that place!) and labeled each one. I am going to have to buy more for Spanish 2, and I may actually need to get the shoe box size, however I love the color. These store all of the above plus some manipulatives, like plates and clothespins, grammar slips and sheets, etc. Bulletin board storage My disaster of fabric, letters, pictures, words, edging now has a home! This is good because I kept my Valentine's, Winter, & Spring materials from last year. Now I can just tell my Aide to get in the box and design a bulletin board for me! Here are the links to the documents mentioned above: Spanish 2 Unit 1 Objective Spanish 1 Unit 1 Objectives Phrase of the Week 1 Phrase of the Week 2

The crazy Spanish teacher has another hair-brained idea. I've thrown around the idea in the last week of "Team Testing". My 2nd year students were thrilled and said they would love to all take their tests together...hahaha. Absolutely not. Testing is the only way I know what they actually know. My thought was to put them in groups (grouped as even as possible based on previous test performance), although they didn't realize this, and let them study together for 2 days before the test. Then I will average their groups and whichever group has the highest average will win something. I'm hoping this accomplishes a couple of things. Students who test well will always test well. Students who do not test well may be held a little bit more accountable/have to re-learn or re-teach the material. Today was the first day of this. They worked really well together. They had to: Assess their groups skills and list what skills (they had a checklist) were their strongest/weakest and order them accordingly Choose what activities to work on Record what they did and why they did those activities Turn in completed work and study guide the day of the test. Each student got a role (which they weren't thrilled about) but did divvy up quickly and got to work. This helps me to be a facilitator instead of the "sage on the stage". I could answer and prompt but not do all the work. Their choices were: Study guide Pictionary/Charades Vocab board games Practice worksheets Quizzing each other Answering "bucket-o-questions" questions They will test on Friday and I will update as to how I thought this idea went. I'm going to call McDonald's, Sonic, Taco Bell and Andy's today and see if I can get some things donated. If not I'll just buy them a goody. ***Update*** The students stayed on task for 3 days and did really well in recording their work and helping each other! I was really impressed and they said they LOVED working in groups. One of the things I mentioned was that getting into college or the work force they would have to study/prepare projects in groups and this was good practice for them. They tested on Friday and the tests are not graded yet but I'm interested to see if it made a difference on their scores. Here is their team work log:

This best seller, is an editable final study guide, of the textbook Realidades 2 from Para Empezar chapter to chapter 4B. It can also be used as the final exam as well. My final test is actually VERY similar to it. This complete study guide is 15 pages long and it comes with an answer key, for a total of 29 pages long. It would take you at least three to four classes to review all the materials in it and you can feel confident, that you are providing your students with significant work for them to review all the concepts learned during the year.
