It's super easy for a palmist to fool a customer into believing generic comments, such as, "this year you'll have a tough time, "you had great memories last year", so on and so forth. But, what if the palmist get's into details? That's what happened to me a few years ago.

Do you have one of these bulletin boards in your classroom? Last year was my first year putting a "While You Were Out" board in my room, and let me tell you... life changing!! I am the WORST at keeping track of the kids that are absent each day and reminding them to make up the work they missed. But, having this in the room takes the responsibility from me and gives it right to my students. I spend about 15 minutes on the first day of school talking to the kids about responsibility and how this board works. I also make sure to showcase this board to my parents on Back to School night. Want to make one for your classroom? The title letters and days of the week can be found for free right here. I just used some plain file folders that I covered in contact paper, some black butcher paper, cheap border, and tissue paper pom poms (which you can buy or make yourself if you're feeling crafty!). I'm telling you, you NEED this bulletin board in your classroom!! Seriously, life changing. Seriously. Not even kidding. Happy back to school!!

Bicyclist deaths in the United States are on the upward trend. Nationally, fatalities among cyclists increased from 621 in 2010 to 722 in 2012. This correlates with an increase in commuting to work by bicycle. Interestingly, however, an OECD report actually suggests that when a country has more cyclists, it tends to have [...]

Hi! Sweet Friends, it's Peggy from Primary Flourish. I hope you are having a refreshing summer! I want to share with you a fun, and better yet, effective way to get your little writers to slow down enough to edit their own writing! Just call the COPS! I just love acronyms! They really help anchor concepts in the students' (and teacher's :)) minds! As you can see in the posters, each letter in COPS reminds students important details they need to check for in their writing. This pack includes all you need to teach your students to do their own editing! Use these 4 Posters with kid-friendly 'I Can Statements' to introduce COPS to your students, then leave them up in your classroom for easy reference through out the year. Students love flip books, oh my! This is a fun, interactive way to cement the editing concepts in their minds. I have included this printable for students to practice 'Patrolling with the COPS'. A blank copy is also included, so you can make up your own sentence for your students. I like to use this as a task in their morning work. Notice the COPS boxes to the left of each sentence - that is for students to put tally marks (or numbers) of how many of those edits needed to be made in that sentence. This helps them s.l.o.w. down and actually reflect on their writing. Now, we know there will be some little 'speeders' that rush though their writing without 'patrolling their writing! That's when they get a ticket! Just put a check under the area that need editing and attach it to the writing that needs editing. The student then needs to look back to find and correct their own writing. You can get 'Edit Writing with COPS' for just a DOLLAR for the next three days! July 27, 2015 July 28, 2015 July 29, 2015 Just click here or on one of the pictures above to snag this TEACHER DEAL! Keep soaking up the sweetness of summer!

I have used the reading workshop model for about 8 years now. It has changed a lot over the years! One thing that has stayed the same is the ‘Respond to Text’ station. This is a time where students get to write about their reading. The station stays the same all year, but the activities in the station change. Below is a list of activities you can add to your ‘Respond to Text’ station at the beginning of the year. 1. Bookmark Book Report At the beginning of the year, some students struggle to finish chapter books. I find that this bookmark book report helps them stay engaged in their reading. The students keep track of the pages they read, and complete activities as they read their book. There is a fiction and nonfiction version available for download. 2. Text Structures Tri-fold Students can use this trifold to ‘hunt’ for different text structures. Just put a basket of nonfiction books at the station and you are set! It’s a great way to get them reading nonfiction books. 3. Choice Board Students get to choose what activities they’d like to complete. This is great because it can be used for the story of the week (if you follow a basal) or the chapter book they are currently reading. You can have the students glue this page inside their reading notebook, or have them staple their responses to this sheet and turn in. Download the Printables: Click here to download the bookmark book report. Click here to download the text structures trifold and choice board. Add editing tasks to your reading workshop block!
